Did you get our TCA 30% and need to dilute it? Watch this video.
Did you get our Glycolic 70% and need to dilute it? .... You got it.
Today I am going to show you How to dilute acids.
Why would you want to dilute an acid?
There are many times when an acid is just too strong and you want to make it milder so you can use it. I will give you some suggestions on how to feel comfortable doing that.
Other times, you are purchasing a high percentage of acid knowing that you will have to dilute it before you apply it.
This is beneficial because - instead of purchasing multiple percentages - you can choose to create any percentage that you wish to use today, and create a different one next time you use it.
First things first. What are you going to dilute your acid with?
Most acids can use distilled water, but with a beta hydroxy acid like salicylic, you will need to use alcohol instead. We recommend 90% which is readily available in many drug stores.
Now don’t worry about having to be a mathematician. We have gone ahead and done all the calculations for you in our Peel Manual. TCA 30% and Glycolic 70% both have charts for dilution.
I will put up a chart to show you the available percentages of each.
What you will need
1. Dilution chart
2. A separate mixing container
3. A measuring utensil *such as ½ teaspoon or, I personally prefer a dropper… and…
4. If you make a larger batch, you will need a container to store your new acid percentage in.
Let’s begin by diluting this 30% TCA acid. I want to make a 15% and this is SUPER simple. www.platinumskincare.com/tca-...|_Creams_|_Serums
My dilution chart says 1 part 30 + 1 part water.
So I just have to decide what my “part” is going to be. Mine is going to be 1 dropper full - yours can be whatever you wish.
I am going to hold my dropper straight up and get some water.
Now put it into my mixing container.
Next I need another dropper of my TCA. Now I just add that in.
I like to just swirl it around for a few seconds and voila! I now have a 15% and I can do my peel.
So, let’s think about that. If you want to cut ANY percentage in half, you just need to mix equal parts and it’s done.
Let’s do a harder one. I am going to use my 70% Glycolic and I want to make a 60%. So I am going to look at my dilution chart. www.platinumskincare.com/glyc...|_Creams_|_Serums
It says 10 parts 70 + 2 parts water.
Now I don’t want to use an entire dropper full for this one, so instead I am going to use DROPS as my “part”.
Now I am going to add 2 drops of water into my container.
And then the 10 drops of the 70%.
Just swirl it together and you have your 60%! So simple.
Hey! … maybe 12 drops isn’t enough solution for me. I think I need more. So all I have to do is
Do it again…
I would add 2 more drops of water and 10 more drops of 70 and now I have more solution.
There, that’s better!
Make as much as you need. Think ahead next time if you know you need more,
and double your recipe. Do 4 drops of water + 20 drops of 70 to get enough. … or triple it.
I want to take just a moment to mention how to dilute other products that might be too strong for you.
Let’s say you have Retinol .10% and it is too strong. How do you dilute that?
This is very simple.
I would suggest to mix it directly with another cream or serum. When you do this you will dilute it right in half.
So, I want to do 1 pump of Retinol .10% + 1 pump of….. whatever you have. Mix them together in your hands and then apply. Now, you have a .05% Retinol. So darn simple!
On the Flip side - if you DON’T want to dilute your products - apply them in separate layers to keep them full strength.
Use these handy tips whenever you need to dilute something you have purchased on our website.
Dilute acids with Distilled water.
Salicylic is special - dilute that with Alcohol.
Dilute creams and serums with other creams and serums. Don’t use water - you could be adding extra bacteria or pathogens into your product. Always use immediately or store in another container.
Dilute oils with other oils - not water or alcohol.

I brought a 70% glycolic acid peel called Splendora I started out with diluting it but it didn’t do anything! So I tried diluting it less and less still nothing so I went full strength and it was like putting water on my skin, it gave a slight stinging sensation but that was it! This product is very thin an not a serum at all I went to the reviews and some people also complain about how thin it was and didn’t do anything but other people loved it. How can I tell if I’m buying the real 70% if I’m reading mixed reviews I don’t want to spend a great deal of money but does it matter when it comes to the price of a 70% true serum. Thank you again for your time ❤️❤️🙏🏽

Oh my goodness!!!! That is scary scary strong. I would dilute that down to a 15% and NO HIGHER. You have only done mild glycolic peels. do 6 parts water + 1 part TCA 100 to get approximately 15%. Another option for eyes/lips would be: 10 parts water + 1 part TCA 100 = 9%

I've never use glycolic acid before and after 2 weeks of using it- I've got breakout, or purging...not sure if it is purging or irritation maybe because % is high for a beginner . Can I dilute it with tap water or some moisturizing cream? best regards :)
@PlatinumSkinCare
@PlatinumSkinCare 2 года назад
Hello. 20% glycolic is extremely low strength. That is not too strong by any means. Purging - if you are acne prone though is 100% acceptable and expected if you understand how acids work. You have clogs deep in your skin [20= layers] and there ARE clogs in there you don't even know about yet. As the acids help to remove the top layers of skin.. the clogs that were 1, 2 and even 3 weeks away all come UP more quickly. Up and OUT. It is good and an acne cycle is usually about 5 weeks... so after that point you will be looking at clear skin ... As Long As you are using the appropriate products daily. Here is a regimen am: AB Cleanser + Vitamin B Complex pm: AB + Retinol .20 + B Complex

I did my first one TCA acid peel Saturday night it is now Monday night and I am starting to see the first signs of peeling around my mouth. I did 13% with three layers. I use glycolic 7% toner regularly and I use the Ordinary's peel solution weekly, I also use azeliac acid regularly. I also used to go in regularly for glycolic peels, but it's been several years since I went to have them done. Im also male so I have thicker skin ( the dr broke the needle at my last Botox appointment 😂) So 3 layers only caused some redness, I didn't see any frosting. I was worried I wasn't going to peel, but it's starting! Yay! Anyway, my question is can I dilute your 13% to a 7% for around the eye peel? Or can I just do one layer of 13% around the eyes (in about a month) of course my other option would be to buy a single of your 7%. What do you think?
@PlatinumSkinCare
@PlatinumSkinCare 5 лет назад
Oh my goodness with the needle! lol. .... Yes, you don't 'have" to see frosting to get flaking at all. No worries there. Absolutely you can dilute it to do an eye peel. If you dilute that in half you will get the 6.5%. An extra drop of TCA 13% will round that up closer to a 7%.

Well... that depends greatly on what acid this is? ... Glycolic or mandelic... lactic... those are all OK to dilute and apply daily. Salicylic is a NO because anything over 2-3% is too drying. TCA and jessners + no for daily application.

Thanks for ur sharing. Quick question. How to dilute TCA 50% out of 100%? I have 100% one but it's too strong to use it. I like to make it lower one. Thanks in advance.
@PlatinumSkinCare
@PlatinumSkinCare 2 года назад
We do not recommend applying anything stronger to a TCA 30. Most reputable skin care companies do not even sell TCA that high of a percentage. Very dangerous. You can dilute what you have with purified water. 1 part TCA to 1 part water to reach 50%. I personally recommend diluting it to a much lower percentage. 1 part TCA to 3 parts water will bring down to a 25% solution. This is a much safer way to go vs TCA 50

Hello. You will use water to dilute a lactic peel. Only Salicylic requires an alcohol to dilute. *Though, I do not think you would need to dilute lactic for the bottoms of the feet. Lactic rarely induces any viable flaking. We have many that use the 20 and 30% TCA on the feet.

We do not recommend mixing the actual acids together. You can in some instances layers different acids. For example a Bi Phasic Peel consists of applying a layer of Salicylic Acid and then applying a layer of Glycolic Acid over top. FYI...Our TCA peels contain Citric and Lactic Acids in their formulas.

just rubbed 70% acid it all over my face and let it sit for 5 minutes. stung but not too bad. It was washing it off with baking soda water which was what really hurt. Theres white blisters all over my face and I was worried, but I rubbed at it and its just loose skin bubbles, so I'm assuming it would be gone if i gave it a good exfoliating scrub later.

You can dilute an acid INTO another product. Caution with the pH level of the ending product though. Acids are notorious for destroying serums and creams! So you are wanting to add kojic acid to your 50% glycolic peel? I would not recommend that. You would need the kojic in such a high % to give any substance to the peel itself. You are much better off using that as an every day, leave-on product.

How do I dilute a 50% glycolic acid to a 30%? Is it okay to use a 50% glycolic acid peel on a dark skin? Can I do a biphasic peel with TCA and glycolic acid, if yes what percentage is recommended and which one goes first?
@PlatinumSkinCare
@PlatinumSkinCare 2 года назад
I would do 2 parts of glycolic 50 = 1 part of water. That will give you a very close option for the 30%. Yes, it is fine to do a glycolic peel on ethnic skin types. If you are very prone to PIH.. then use a melanin inhibitor like our Fade Bright for 1-2 weeks prior to applying. This is generally reserved for stronger peels like TCA or Jessners. No, there is no reason to try and use glycolic and TCA together. The glycolic is not going to aid the TCA in any way. Just do the TCA. ***Make sure to use a melanin inhibitor for 2-3 weeks.

Hi mam I hv 70 % glycolic acid …can i put directly into moisturiser or should dilute it first??
@PlatinumSkinCare
@PlatinumSkinCare Месяц назад
What are you trying to accomplish? An everyday moisturizer would need to be (to start) no stronger than 10 or 15%. So only a small amount of that 70% could be added. ... AND .. just keep in mind that if you are adding this straight peel to a cream .. you will break the cream down. It requires precise formulation to have a cream that can "hold" an acid in it. A serum would be an easier feat. ... If you can find one that already HAS an acid in it - it would probably "hold up" better.
