I got plant cuttings from another hobbyist, I planted them in a dirted aquarium jar. Loosely based on the Walstad Method.
Plants:
Vallisneria Spiralis
Bacopa Caroliniana "green", "red" and "pigmy"
Ludwigia Repens "rubin" and a round leaf type

Have you thought what happens to the plants when the nutrients from the potting soil runs out? In ordinary potted plants, my understanding is you have to eventually re-pot at some stage.

What was the parameters of your water or intended hardness and pH? The plants you added appear to be softwater, acidic plants. These plants grow naturally in a lake im surveying and remediating. The ramhorn can handle the pH these plants prefer, but the GH the ramhorn needs bottoms around 7dgh while the top for the bacopa is 8dgh, so unless you can manage to keep dgh between 7-8 or 130-150ppm one or the other will not proform as well as expected. Typically bladder snails are native to this system instead. Nonetheless things could be fine. The world's not perfect. It will be interesting to see how things progress.
@GrowingInterest
@GrowingInterest 5 лет назад
Yes ramshorn like a bit harder water like my tap water. But I didn't measure it though. The plants are going along with it :D I made an update video recently, go check it out :)

Do u get a foul smell from the jar? I had indoor jars before with shrimps, but they produced a very bad smell...
@GrowingInterest
@GrowingInterest 5 лет назад
My lifestock is just a snail, so low quantity. Maybe less or no shrimp? So less causes for smell in small ecosystems :)

I was under the impression that using the walstad method you have to rinse the dirt and let it since overnight in a few inches of water and do that repeatedly for like 3 days. Is that not true?

That could be true, but I'm not sure, will have to look it up

Will guppies be okay in that jar? If not what are the other options
@GrowingInterest
@GrowingInterest 5 лет назад
No guppies are not suitable for a container that small, everything under 8gallon or 30Liter is too small for fish or even shrimp. They will die or jump out and die. Snails are fine, if they are not too many.
@manishmandal-78
@manishmandal-78 5 лет назад
Don't know how many litres is that. But you can consider one single betta after the plants start growing. Mine one lived healthy and fine in a 7 litre bowl for over 3 years. Used to change water (50%) weelky. Lesser the litre the more frequent will be the water changes.
@jamessmith65536

Hello Mr. Fish, I'd like to set up the same Aquarium but with se Karpfen as Input. Does it fit or die?
@GrowingInterest
@GrowingInterest 5 лет назад
Hello Mr. B, It will fit if it's not enough, some Karpfen or carb (engl.) Are just 4cm long, a tank with like 60 to 100L is ok, some carb are 20 to 30cm than the tank size start at 1000L. I don't know what's in galloon (use Google :D) so it's your choice of it fit or die! :D💚😬

Newbie here: how can you get away with using regular LED?
@GrowingInterest
@GrowingInterest 3 года назад
In short: Yes, there is no such thing than regular LED. All LED have different properties, I use normal LED's and my plants are growing, but yes there are always better ways to do stuff most of the time more costly.

That's debunked. That is an aquarium myth. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VmbZUbIr2Ro.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U0yPaFwz0-A.html Do these make them "crazy"? It actually enables them to school, shoal, travel, and display their natural behaviors. Another advantage is, it lets you see the aquarium clearly by 360 degrees without sharp edges or corners. There's nothing wrong with using round aquariums.

Probably in a home depot or in a decoration store. This jar is actually a glass container for food storage. I would say that IKEA has lots of varieties similar jars. Hope I could help. Btw some jars have a lid or a hood, I lost mine :D so I couldn't use it for food, but great for aquariums👍
