I still don't understand why you have to tear the whole distributor apart just change out the pickup coil

The top of the shaft is a plate that the trigger wheel mounts on. The stator/PIP is mounted UNDERthis plate. The shaft has to be pulled/pushed through from the bottom up. The gear has to be removed to do this.

My Lincoln has a tfi i replaced it the problem im having is no injector pulse on crank hit it with either and it will start and stay running.40lbs at the rail looses pressure once key is off

P.s. Seems there's a lot of recommendations to remove dist. from engine. Is there a good reason that you know of to not remove the stator-hall sensor castellated steel cap ?

Hey , scratch that . Of course the reason you must remove distributor from engine is the shaft that drives distributor has a cap plate welded to the top and no usable access to pickup coil even for inspection is available. Peace !
