I LOVE my 1UZ-FE. It is one of the smoothest running V8 engines ever built! I got REALLY lucky and picked up a 96 LS400 for 65 bucks. It needed a computer due to capacitor leakage. I bought a used ECU on Ebay and I've been driving it since. Toyota was at the top of their engine game in the late 90's. I also have a 2JZ-GE in a GS300.
Love this story! The Lexus motors are superb, especially the pre-2005 models because the engines are so bulletproof. I bought an 02 IS300 with stock manual from a buddy for $400. Did the timing belt and water pump, fixed the brakes and sticky dash and now I have a really fun, really reliable car good for another 150K miles.
Did a 1 uzfe into an 04 Australian holden rodeo ( Isuzu ) two wheel drive auto last year. Used a soarer 1 uzfe. Hybrid part Isuzu and part Toyota trans. Looks factory ..great fit and goes well. Nice work on your swap.
Hello, I want to do this swap to my 87 4runner. Will post a vid to show my progress. Thank you for the information..I was curious about the transmission because I don't want to lose the 5 speed. I have read that the R151f is the best option for the 1uz 4runner swap. Ks racing from ebay has the bellhousing and adapter plate. The work will be the wiring...you handled that in a very organized manner.
Hello, trying to find a “RE-manned” V6 engine for my 2002 Trooper. Not doing the rebuild due last experience trying to rebuilding the Transmission 3 times before just getting a RE-manned. Runs great now. So doing the same for the engine. I’m in San Antonio, TX.
Great video series! Just curious as to the years of LS400 engines that would work for this swap? Also if using the auto transmission would need additional mods. Thank you for this series Johnny.
I know you preciously mentioned the 99 Troopers are a lemon but after seeing this video your a very skilled craftsman and I believe one day if your willing you can make this happen for the 98-02 Trooper... I have the classic Forest Green color and get endless positive compliments on what a lovely looking vehicle it is but deep inside I know the engine is crap but with a motor like this I would feel complete... Who knows maybe one day it can happen and you and your partners got the job... If not I'll just get 2012 Nissan Xterra... Great Job man
This would be a very easy swap into a '98-'02 if it has the 5 speed. If it has the Auto (GM 4L30E) which is junk then you'd be better off scraping the entire powertrain for the Lexus engine and trans. You can mount the transfer case to the back of the Lexus trans..
Johnny5ive The biggest problem with me is the most I know about maintaining a vehicle is simple stuff like performing a complete tune-up changing brakes starters alternaters rotors brakes plugs filters fluids and installing audio systems... That's basically as far as I can go... I honestly would have to just pay to get it done right lol... Sad but true my expertise are in holistic medicine and graphic design... I just like to drive rare classic Japanese vehicles... I do have access to a 97 sc400 automatic engine and trans that's been sitting for almost 6yrs now... I live in NJ... If down the road the price is right and all the bells and whistles are figured out you guys got the job that's how much I love the vehicle I really don't want to part ways with it I just spent 1200 to install a new timing kit water pump and all and had to change some internal valve seal that was causing oil to leak out... Thanks for all the great info
Transfer case won't just bolt too the back of the Lexus a340 it'd be smart to swap one from an 03/04 axiom or rodeo you can then use the Lexus bell housing with the rodeo transmission and it'll bolt right to your TOD transfer case
Johnny , I am in need of assistance! I have a first gen 88 trooper with a 2.6 . I pulled the motor to replace gaskets and hoses , in the process everything got mixed up and I'm having trouble figuring out how everything goes back on. Please let me know if you can help me out
HEIT, thank you for the video. I have a 89 Trooper and a 95 LS400. Do you still have the schematics for the adaptation to a manual transmisión on the trooper…?
Great job! Curious, why didn't you Source a 5 speed manual from the 3.4 l Toyota tacoma/tundra. They are beefier than the 4-cylinder ones. Especially since it's a v8
I have 1977 celica liftback with 1UZ and getrag 6 speed swap, and I must say it is the smoothest running engine I have ever had. Yes the tuning is hard and expensive but there is way more support for it now than 3 years ago. I honestly think in couple of more years it will be very easy and cheap to tune. But in stock form, the engine is unkillable and smooth as heck.
I've considered this swap for some time. While my 2.6l runs great, I would like my Trooper to have more power. Mine's an auto and a neighbor has an LS400 that's been sitting for a couple years due to bad air suspension that I could probably pick up cheap. The one thing that is holding me back, is that the darn starter is under the intake manifold. I would hate to be off road in another state and have to remove my intake to replace a bad starter.
How does the idea of pulling the head off your 2.6 off road in another state sound. Blowing a head gasket on a 4ZE1 is about 100 times more likely than a 1UZ starter going bad. I think your logic is faulty.
Nice clean heart swap, Lexus sounds amazing. Great job on the wiring details i would be in for an adapter, I have a Trooper 2.8. Question: So an automatic is an easier swap at the bell housing?
@@Johnny5troopers I want to do this v8 swap on my 96 trooper automatic with the 3.2 Will the transmission bolt right up.... and do you sell the motor mounts?
Hello Johnny I have a 1st Gen 1988 Trooper with the 2.6 with the automatic Transmission would the 1uzfe work with with the 4-speed Aisin Warner automatic ?
Hello Johnny, same question herr, I have an 88 trooper, a 1uz laying around, i will source for the be housing, My question is, do i use the ls400 ecu for the transmission? Or should i leave the trooper ecu, and install TPS to intake manifold of 1uz for it to propperly shift? Also, what torque converter should i use? Or are they the same?
If you've got the V6 5 speed you can just change the front section of the trans to the 4 cylinder style. I am going to take pre-orders and have a run of adapters made very soon. Send me an email with your contact info so I can get you on the list. j5@johnnytroopers.com
Johnny5ive hey I'd be keen to go on that list for an adapter, I just tried to email you and it bounced back. I'm in sth Austraila my email is corey.barrett@gmail.com cheers
Johnny5ive I was having the same problem as theaussiesamurai I sent an email but it didn’t go through. I would also be very appreciative to be put on the list for the preorder, my email is tristangarza@yahoo.com
