Traxs Thank’s. I have a pretty good collection with over 500 videos. Feel free to subscribe and check them out. I have pulling the drivetrain on a terminator, gear installs, clutch installs, transmission swaps, fuel pump videos etc It’s starting to pick up and average over 200,000 views per month. Thanks for taking the time to watch 🙂
The torque for spark plugs on normal engines is light as you say, just a little more than hand tight. But some of these Ford 4.6L and 5.4L engines had a nasty habit of blowing plugs out of the head. I have read all I could on Ford forums and you tube about this problem. There are some good Ford mechanics who say to tighten spark plugs in these engines tighter than normal because of the few threads in these heads. I believe them and I always torque my plugs in these engines to 20+ ft lbs, and it has never been a problem getting them back out.
Yeah, you are correct. It’s primarily a problem on heads with only 4 threads, so I check my mach 1 at very oil change. luckily my cobra has the 9 thread heads, so less common but can still happen. Great advice
Mainly the smoke show under full throttle of oil burning (you saw how much oil it was spitting out in the beginning of the video). To my knowledge, even after showing the owner the compression results, they deny it and the car is still for sale
Sweet ass intake manifold! I have the elderbrock Jr. FI, what is yours? And does that have a larger cam installed? I know the 4.6 is an interference engine if the cam timing chain slipped it might damage all the heads on that side, just some ideas.
poot111111 this one is Richard racing. I highly doubt the chain slipped, but rather the valve clearance on this engine build was too tight with the cam when the engine was rebuilt
ohh that makes since. I didn't know the engine was rebuilt. That sucks to have a fresh motor with a dead hole! Keep up the good work! I will be watching, you will be the next Chris Fix for Ford guys
On the compression test will it tell you that you could have a been oil ring? How to tell the difference between valve seal are bad when there blue smoke at acceleration or oil is get past a ring ?
Hey I have a 2002 mustang GT and we were trying to do a compression test but we were not able to get the 14mm size to screw into the threads I was wondering if there was a special size for this year
Quick question and might be dumb but I wanna do this on my 01 cobra, I’ll do everything you did but the 01 cobra has the intake in the way. Would having the intake off for the compression test matter?
Another question do you have to take off each coil and spark plugs at a time and then put it back after you test it? I seen another video just now and this guy had taken off all the spark plugs and tested it.
@@edwinortiz6583 The intake on or off will not effect the test. It’s also easier on the starter if all the plugs are removed so the engine spins more freely- it will just make more strange noises. That will not effect the results either because the test is for each individual cylinder and none are connected to eachother
Yes, it’s much easier on the starter to remove all the plugs so there is only compression on the cylinder in use. We did that on an 03 cobra once ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZrtzOCheUkw.html
