"A bong is a failed punch", that is the single best explanation of Bong Sao I have ever heard. Reminds me of the time my sifu cracked me up years ago when he said "Wing Chun, when you think of it, is really extremely violent. I mean, you're constantly either hitting or trying to hit, relentlessly."

Great video, man. I trained many years ago under Albert Chong in Adelaide at the IWCA. Even though it’s been years since I actively trained the concepts have remained strong in my mind and watching this really evoked a lot of muscle memory and I feel inspired to start practicing Siu Nim Tau and Chum Kiu. I never got up to Biu Gee but watched my seniors practice it and wished we were invited to do so. I might reach out to some old Wing Chun mates to see if they’re up for doing some Chi Sau. I’m really glad I saw this video today 🙏🏻

Hello from New Zealand.. I have been training 24 years...to be honest I have glanced past some of your previous videos, but there is something about this video that I really like..some parts to people might seem disjointed for beginners,but on a personal level completely understand aspects you mention in this clip....

Nice video, thank you. Question?…..as with many videos on wing Chun on RU-vid, very little is said about the combination of footwork with hand techniques ie. What leg are you leading off with Bong Sau?, what leg are you leading off with Paak Sau?, what leg are you leading off with Gaan Sau?
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss 2 года назад
On a bong sao, the weight is pivoted onto the same side as the bong sao hand. Same with pak sao. On a lower gaan sao, the weight is on the opposite leg as the hand.
@florisvanlingen
@florisvanlingen 2 года назад
If the opponent comes in and gives you pressure towards your center you can go to bong as explained. But you don't have to do a lap sau if the range is correct you can actually bong and hit at the same time making is just as fast as a tan sau.
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss 2 года назад
You’re right. I forgot about that. It can be just as fast, but still should not be 1st or 2nd choice. An elbow down option should be priority before an elbow up option.
@florisvanlingen
@florisvanlingen 2 года назад
@@sifuadamwilliss Bong sau is indeed okey as a transition both often other options are preffered. In sparring I don't like to bridge the gap with a centreline strike since I don't like to be on the inside if I can not get close enough. Inside tan sau is hard for me to apply since I don't have very large arms so i prefer to be on the outside and with my arm on top. I usually draw a reaction first before exploiting the opening or I wait for my opponent to attack.

Thanks for sharing. option 1 to punch come forward and to centre option 2 - to tan and punch. My questions- are we doing a wrong bong? Or if a tan da is the contact on their opposite arm? Or does it not matter just go for the tan da and not be concerned about their spare hand because my punching hand would turn to a defensive shape when I feel something. Hope you can understand what I’m describing cheers

@Sifu Adam i would like to ask, is it possible to use bong sao against a swinging overhead right hand? What is the best defense and counter against a swinging overhead right hand?
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss 2 года назад
A version of bong sao combined with Bil Sao works against a swinging overhead punch.

Hello sifu how to avoid raising shoulder ؟
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss 8 месяцев назад
Practice the bong sao extremely slowly. Do it over and over until your body remembers it.
@MartinMelikyan
@MartinMelikyan Год назад
Hello sifu Adam, bong sao never lifts, but what if i lift it a little bit and move aside, it works when i use it in sparring, i mean, wheb jab comes, i use my bong sao and it works and i move my body outside and my opponent is mine i csb punch him, cuase against boxing it's easier to punch after bong sao, I don't want to sound stupid, but eveb in movies i see when ip man use bong sao the other form to move hand away
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss 11 месяцев назад
Different ranges call for different uses. The way you’re using the bong position in boxing range sounds ok (similar to a Philly shell).

@ailton1760
@ailton1760 11 месяцев назад
Cause I think bong sao is used according to the attack. In the face, I'd have to raise my elbow to avoid getting hit on the face😅
@sifuadamwilliss
@sifuadamwilliss 11 месяцев назад
@@ailton1760 the bong needs to be modified for higher applications. The hand needs to become higher than the elbow.
