This video will help you learn how to do one of the easiest and most basic skateboard tricks on a mini ramp for beginners, the rock to fakie (sometimes inaccurately called the fakie rock).
This tutorial assumes that you are a beginner and have already learned the fundamentals of transition skating (tutorial video here: • Skateboard Mini Ramp B... ), but will walk you through all the practice steps you need to go from there to knowing how to do rock to fakies.

I'm 44 and I learned this trick today thanks to your video. I picked up skating again in the last couple weeks after I stopped skating about 30 years ago. I had never progressed beyond drop ins. When it came to the rock, I never felt comfortable getting my trucks back over the coping. Your little tip about simply popping your front trucks up and back down while on the transition was the key. Gave me that feel for bringing my front end back down while skating out fakie. It took me about 15 attempts to land one and I landed five out about my next 10. Thank you.

good tips on practice steps to get the concepts down. This is great to avoid all the learning curve mistakes from just trying the trick without practicing the components of the trick

That tip about practicing getting your wheels over the coping first and then bailing to get a feel for the lip was a great tip. Thanks!

OneCircuit Yeah man! I'm a huge advocate of taking a whole bunch of 'baby steps' to get closer and closer to doing the trick until you just know you can do it and then going for it. Otherwise I see a lot of people getting hurt when they try to do something too far outside of their comfort zone. Glad the tip helped you though man, and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know!

Thanks for your videos Justin! They're great! I am in Spain, I can do rock to fakie in small mini ramps and medium ramps but when I try in a vertical one, abit higher and steeper, I lose my confidence. How can get over this fear? In a smal mini ramp I can do roll in, drop in, rock to fakie, rock and roll, tail stall (not very well yet), half cab rock, axle (progressing...) and kick turns, Ive been skating 4 months.

Well I managed to do a proper rock to fakie for the first time at the park today, but I wanted to make sure I really learned it so I kept trying to get a second one down until I slammed on the ground and something in my arm popped. So here I am now watching a tutorial to find what went wrong, and it seems I was wrong in trying to put my whole body over the front truck towards the coping before I rolled back in. Definitely gonna try again when I'm better

does it work on pennyboard?
3 года назад
A few days ago I tried this on a low, not so mellow, transition without a coping and had the board slid away. I fell forward and somehow hit my face in concrete, which lead to me breaking off the top of one of my front teeth. Ouch! :( The tooth is fixed, but it was super scary so I will need to find a better place to learn this. And lean more backward!

I was practicing pumping and accidentally did a rock to fakie but I didn't land it thou. I bailed because I was shocked my front wheels go over the coping.

Here's a tip that might help: If you can find a quarter pipe that has no coping, try doing a rock to fakie on that and then go to a ramp with coping
@NeverStopImprovingSB

I love this idea!!
@markwillard
@markwillard 9 лет назад
Justin, I have no problem dropping into a ramp, but the quarter pipe has been problematic, and painful. I noticed at the start of this video, you are holding your skateboard and then drop it over the coping and land on the transition. Very cool. What can I do to just drop in by stomping the bolts without landing on my back? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
@NeverStopImprovingSB
@NeverStopImprovingSB 9 лет назад
Mark Willard Oh man! I had the same problem when I started learning how to drop in. I would lean back too much and do a wheelie and then the board would shoot out and I'd go straight to my butt. The fear of having that happen was what forced me to lean into the ramp more (which is what you need to work on), so hopefully once you work up to trying it again, you'll STOMP your front wheels down into the ramp and really lean into the ramp and ride away without falling again. It's scary to do it after you get hurt trying it, but at least now you know what you're dealing with and your body will be able to adjust. Good luck Mark, and let me know how your next attempts go.

Nice vid! Why is it called fakie?
@Meofalulu

When you roll back into the mini ramp, you are riding fakie (i.e. normal stance, but moving backward)

Justin Lauria Good news! I landed my first Rock to Fakie on a half pipe two days ago! I did also fracture my radius on the very next attempt after that however. On the plus side I've got a month off work now haha
@NeverStopImprovingSB
@NeverStopImprovingSB 9 лет назад
SparkiiJaxx Spark....dude....that makes me so sad. I'm really sorry that happened to you. I mean I'm glad you're trying stuff outside of your comfort zone, and that you landed your first rock to fakie, but I that is just a rotten thing have happen. Do you think wrist guards would have helped? Being out with an injury is really tough but just nurse that thing back to health and hopefully you got a cast put on it. Don't try anything too crazy for a while; I don't want to hear that you had to get crutches next.
@JordanThomasRichards
@JordanThomasRichards 9 лет назад
Thankfully I dont think I'll be needing a cast. Seen a general fracture doctor and a shoulder & elbow specialist, both agree I wont need a cast but if the flexibility in my elbow hasn't improved by next week then it may need a minor operation to adjust the position of the fractured piece of bone. Its fine, started skating 10+ years ago, street and flatland, without a single broken bone, its about time if anything lol

Justin Lauria I'll be sure to wear some pads next time. Dont need to worry about looking daft, there's no one there at 5am when I finish work.
