Box braiding guide to success: 1. Time. It takes a lot of time so if u want it to turn out good and fast, don’t watch tv while braiding. The best thing to do is vibe to music or a podcast, or talk on the phone. U need to be looking at the mirror and ur hair, or ur tv. 2. Be patient. If it doesn’t work out the first time, try again. I’ve tried doing box braids 3 times before I got it to look good and stay on. It takes practice. 3. Don’t be buying no cheap hair. Go to sally and buy the good hair. I’m not talking bout the real human hair, but the kind that she has in the video. Try getting some that’s already feathered and ready to go besides the separating 4. Parting is hard, so if u can ask ur mom or whatever, do so. If u need help don’t be scared to ask. I look up videos on how to part better and they really help. 5. Keeping your braids straight down is very important because u don’t want no crusty braids that aren’t laying down flat. U can make them lay down buy taking some hot water in a big cup or something similar and dipping you braid in all the way to ur head, but don’t burn ur scalp. Leave it in for a few seconds and then take it out and move on. A lot of people forget to do the boil heating thing at the end but it’s super important for flat beautiful braids. Rock ur hair bby🤷🏽♀️😙
So I attempted to do this and braid my hair for the first time so let me just share my experience: 1- She was 100% correct, parting was the hardest part. Even if you have all the mirrors in the world, there are still some blind spots that you’ll just have to guess on. Let your mama help you cuz that’s what I had to do 😂 2- The rubber bands made the gripping a lot easier. I attempted to do it without and I failed. Because it is my first time, it helped me a lot. 3- The top of my braids are really really tight because I took the pressure tip wayyy too far. The braids looked uneven because I was applying too much pressure when I should have eased up as I went further down. 4- I didn’t put any product in my hair before braiding. It would have made my hair slick and impossible to grip because I’m a beginner. 5- The more braids I did, the better they looked. My first braid is hideous but my last braid is my favorite. 6- Buy a LOT of braiding hair. I overestimated the packs and almost ran out because I didn’t buy enough. Don’t make the same mistake as me. 7- It takes time!!! The parting alone took around 2 hours because I wanted it to be PERFECT. (Spoiler alert: I still couldn’t get it to be perfect.) I started everything at 6pm and finished at 3 in the morning. But again, it was my first time. Hopefully this helps you guys 🤎
@@brookalynn not at all! It lasted me a long time and they still looked fresh even after a couple of weeks! Just make sure you’re wearing a scarf AND a bonnet not only to bed but all around the house. It lasts, I promise.
@@favormulalira2551 that’s so great to hear. i’ve already bought the hair lol. this is my first time having braids so i’m pretty excited. thanks for the reply back !
Thank you so much for the feedback 😊. If you ever see this, I'd just like to know if using the rubber bands cut your hair. I'm scared to do that because I feel it'll cut my hair. Thank you.
GIRL WHEN I TELL U IM LIKE 22 & been trying to learn how to braid but it never clicked until now!!! Just know u helped change at least one persons life lol
My mom is white and I never had a relationship with my father. I finally get to connect to my roots by following this video and not having to pay for someone to pull on my scalp. This video is a godsend! I thank you so much❤🥺
I hear a lot of mixed race kids with poc fathers and white moms have that issue. I'm glad you're out of that situation though, and I hope it wasn't too rough for you as a child :D
Vibranium activate Boo! I grew up around majority black folks and chile I still have to go yo RU-vid University to learn about my hurr lol! Yes this tutorial gave me hope indeed!
Heyyy, I just wanted to ask if it’s culturally appropriate for me to braid my hair like this because I’m white and I don’t want to offend anyone. I am also educating myself on this topic so I just wanted to ask☀️🤎
@@Nobody-kq2hv I dont really understand. how is it cultural appropriation if you respect and pay credits to the origin of the hairstyle and dont clownify it? i mean everybody can do whatever they want on their body and hair, as long as they don't falsely adopt or try to take credit for something that's not theirs... I'm brown, Indian, and i have wavy hair and I love how people slay these braids. I want to learn more about it, and I also want to braid my hair like this. is that cultural appropriation?
@@helen6717 because for year non black people called out hair unprofessional and other terrible thing just for you guys to steal out hairstyle from us and also it’s not made for straight and wavy hair
People who braid their hair are SO TALENTED! My arms get tired just brushing mine but yall have created techniques to create beautiful hair styles. Massive respect, great video!
This literally help me do my own braids when I thought I was never going to be able to and it helped me do it without the rubber bands too. Thank you🥺🥰
Yes! Finally a method that doesn't make me want to cry! I'm combing out my locs and I wanted to do this when I was done. Love this, and I'm definitely subscribing
Omg you saved me today. I've been stressing all day trying to do these braids and every other video I watched had some crazy method that I just was NOT getting. Thank you so much for making it so simple!
Same. I cannot do the looping method with the extension hair before you braid it into your hair. I have tried several times and just get frustrated so I learned to do it just like she does. I have heard doing it this way the hair can twist and pull your hair out but I have been braiding my hair this way for years and have never had that issue with mine or my daughter's hair.
How did it turn out? Did your braids slip out after time. I have tried this technique before but they slipped out. I am unsure if it was me (it was my first time) or the technique. But I do want to try this technique again
You killed it!! Loving how there are no feed-in steps, I have tried box braids three times and had them slip down randomly, I am going to try this method for sure this time. Thank you for sharing!
i’m going to the beauty supply tomorrow with my sister so i can attempt to do my braids by myself for the first time. watching this video (this is like my 5th time watching) i can honestly say that i think i’m prepared for this so thank you. (i will probably watch it again as i start brading)
First off this was soooo helpfullllll, and secondly I’m a huge jazz fan so I’ve been listening to Louis Armstrong a lot! Specifically “La Vie En Rose”. 🦋
Girl I'm from Mexico and I'm addicted to braids, but they are an expense that hell I've been looking for tutorials for a long time and besides that you explain it perfectly I adore you Greetings beautiful, what a flow always!!! ♥
I feel like I would be able to do this but my mom thinks I will mess it up. But she loses because she has to pay 80-100 dollars every two months when I could do this for like 10-30 dollars. But anyways you did your thing 💯
Exactly. I’m 14 and my mom would pay so much money for me to get my hair braided. That’s why I’m learning for myself so she doesn’t have to spend that much money.
Okay so like I’m doing my own braids for the first time & you really just helped w the patience part . I know how to do it just too scared I’ll get frustrated and quit and it’ll look a mess but thank you girl for the motivation ❤️
VIEWING LOVE LANNA'S BEGINNERS TUTORIAL ENABLED ME TO SUCCESSFULLY START & COMPLETE MY DAUGHTER'S MEDIUM SIZED BACK LENGTH BRAIDS!!! EVERYONE THINKS THEY'RE PROFESSIONALLY DONE. THANK YOU LOVE LANNA!
This is how you do a braiding tutorial! You show how to grip the hair and tie the ends. I used the same technique to braid my hair and tie the ends. Your braids are beautiful! Awesome tutorial! 🥰🔥🥰
This is so beautiful. Thanks for the video. I’m actually doing braiding my hair now. I Got stuck a little bit and thankfully I found this video. Thanks ❤️
Girlsssss if u struggle, start front to back. If your arms get too tired you can tie the hair back and hide the unbraided hair underneath. Helped me a ton.
Everyone always says parting is the hardest part and at least I know im not the only one struggling😭 thank you! You help so many young black people🙏🏾 doing wonders!
yesterday i braided my hair (without fake hair in it) for the very first time and I'm so excited to braid them again with fake hair when my exams are over. your tutorial is so helpful
Okayyy girl. You gave me confidence to try on my own... Im about to try this on myself. Commentary on point. And i like how simple this video is .. "patience" lol
I’m glad I came back across your channel I watched this a few years ago and I do the exact same method so I will be doing my hair next week if my cousin don’t do it. I got this.
Your so pretty! I deleted my original comment as a white girl I didn’t understand the culture, roots and what these braids mean. I think these braided hair styles are stunning. I would love to braid my hair like this I don’t know if I will as I don’t want to overstep boundaries in anyway. I have been educating myself on the history and will continue to educate myself further. I’m sorry to anyone who saw my original comment as was offended. 💛 this videos amazing and I’ve rewatched it a lot of times xx
Thank-You for this tutorial. It really helped me. Now I can send it to my grandmother so she can know how to do my hair. I tried it myself, but uh; didn't turn out well for me at all. Thank-you for the help. 🙏🏾🥰
Whenever it comes to the part where my natural hair is running out and I need to borrow hair from one of the sides it always comes out a mess and it didn’t come out straight. Any suggestions plsss??
Great video love how you explained what you was doing through the process makes it so much easier im new at braiding with extenisions hair and this made it so much easier to do thank you!!!!!!
That was amazing, seriously you are a pro. I very much liked the tip for the sections.. looks very helpful. I will try to do it myself without extensions first so I don't waste hair lol 😅
I’ve been trying to do my braids for an hour now and it just wasn’t working. This method actually works and it’s tight in my head. Thank you so much you’re a lifesaver !!!
You got me more motivated to do my own hair and I’m like 13 and I’m really good at braiding and I have school today so I’m braiding my hair after school 🥺❤️
I have been helping my sis and auntie with their hair without been able to do mine but today after seeing this video i made it myself and am ready to rock it to work tomorrow. thanks so much 😍😍😍
This just have me courage to go ahead and do my braids. 😁 Your tutorial was super straight forward. I do love you did the rubber band method. I think that will definitely help me when I do my braids. Thank you good sis! ❤️
