CORRECTIONS: There was a bit in the vid about how bleed isn't calculated with break effect, but that was incorrect, so it was removed. So like, don't listen to that stock image girl. I don't even know her. 👀 Also, all break effect damage scales off of level as well, so the higher level a character is, the more you're going to see from break effect percent. So we'll see how this stat goes when people start getting their characters to max level. Also also, freeze IS a DoT for one turn. Kinda like Quantum. It is affected by break effect, but I don't know why anybody would currently build a break effect freeze build since it only works on the damage, and elements like physcial, fire, and wind are all waaayyyy better for break damage AND DoT damage. Edit: if you go to the Honkai Star Rail wiki over toughness, you can see where they changed the wording. "Base break dmg" in the calculations was changed to "level multiplier" now. My video has the pre-change. Pretty wild. Goes to show how early this game is that the damage calculations still aren't 100% solved! Lol
heya! exTREMELY specific question about break effect, you know that light cone, Trends of the Universal Market? it burns the enemies when you get hit, but it says that the DoT is based on your DEF? how does that work? and does break effect still increase it??? Please tell me if you know anything! thank you!! EDIT: okay, I did some testing and break effect sadly does not affect it :( only DEF
Great vid :) One thing I'd say is breaking an enemy toughness does 4 things since you should also include the damage formula has a toughness multiplier of 1 when the enemy has their weakness broken, so the 4th thing would be you have a damage increase during the enemy's broken turn. Also I would say Break DoTs won't necessarily do more damage than Skill based DoTs, it depends on stats and multipliers but in general yes
Just a clarification. Quantum and Ice to do not have "DoTs" they are considered additional damage and thus can Crit but do not benefit from DoT damage received for instance.
We are going to need another 1.6 EM buff from Genshin. Break Effect is just so mediocre besides the HASSLE to actually make the character (who has the highest Break Effect Stacks) be the one to destroy those Toughness Bars.
HSR improved a lot of QoL features from genshin (remaining chest in map, one click assignment repeat, no enforced daily commission side quest, salvage relic into relic exp material, etc) we can only hope that relic set loadout will be one on that list later 🤞
Even if we can't get it for other characters, I hope they implement the preset relics on Trailblazer. They're the only ones switching paths and elements after all.
One thing I’ve noticed in regards to sampo breaking an enemy is that his own Wind Shear has a separate stack limit of 5 and the break effect triggers another instance of wind shear
Good point! Just checked that out. Seems that the break stacks of wind shear are a separate instance of wind shear from if you normally apply it. Definitely makes breaking with wind even more powerful.
Too bad Sampo's Own Talent 5 wind shear Stacks scale with ATK.... But the other Wind shear from actual toughness break, only scales with Break effect. (Has same case with Serval's ATK scaling Shock Talent)
@@JMike-bq6rl wait does that mean that his wind shear scales both off of his ATK and BE stats?? Or purely his ATK, cuz if it's the former, then its gonna be so good building him a DPS with some good amount of BE
@@trottinettesauvage It scales differently based on how it was applied from my knowledge. If it was applied via break effect, it will be based off of break effect stat where as skill dot will be based off of whatever the skill does. (I believe break effect is also affected by attack, but I am not sure) Multiple of the same debuff/DOT can be applied if the source is different. I tried having hook and asta, where hook applies burn when she uses skill, asta applies it when she attacks. The enemy could have 3 different burns, 2 from the characters and 1 from toughness break.
EM was mostly ignored at beginning because it was weak, they reworked it around patch 1.6 where it then gained relevance especially with Anemo characters. Then, as you pointed out, it became more relevant as units designed for that stat started appearing. Reason why many players are ignoring Break Effect imo, is because it scales off player level and it also has a penalty if level difference vs enemy is too big. No one (edit: or maybe some have but great majority of players haven't) has reached max character level yet, and break effect has a huge increase from lvl 70 to 80, add to that the current level difference in MoC and you can see why people would dismiss it. Personally I think that, just like EM on Genshin, Break builds will be cheaper because of overall less amount of stats required but will have lower ceiling vs traditional dps build. Should still be able to clear highest level content with break builds though.
Good points, but i would say they are not just "cheaper" they are completly free in some cases. You will farm your regular crit gear and if you whant realy good crit gear you will have few break sets for free as result lol. As example rigt now imo - Sampo is a must have unit if you are planing on build Dan Heng. You will get 2 for 1 price, and if you are planing on build Kafka or Silver wolf later on - Sampo sinergise VERY well with both of them.
@@JackiShadow I built my Dan Heng and Sampo, and the only Quantum character I have is Qingque whom yes, i built and use. Currently i really like Kafka and Sampo's DoT thing, but Silver Wolf's skillset seems more profitable (?) in the long run. I like SW, but sometimes her Ult animation gives me a headache and i was never into that modern sci-fi aesthetic. Do you think I should pull for Kafka or Silver Wolf?
@@aureliaavalon It depends.. SW most likely will be better in long run and for memory of chaos push, but if you dont like her and dont enjoy her animations - what the point of playing the game without fun? If i dont like charaster i skip it. But... There always that stupid "but' xD I dont like Seele. I skiped her. And i kinda regret about it now xD So... I mean i cant say will you regret later on couse you skip SW or not. And if i dont like charaster i will skip it again no matter how op he is, as long as puling him mean loose someone i realy like. Btw I still can got Seele on rerun later on. For me it is much more importan to get characters I like at first.
Thanks, definetly the best video I've seen about this so far. I've been building my Sampo, trying to make sure he has atk% break effect and effect hit rate but while I had some understanding of what it was doing I now understand it way better. My main goal in this game is just to have an overpowered Sampo and build a dots team around him. As an E4 Sampo haver I wish you luck on your pulls to get him, I'm sending you my Sampo luck energy!
silverwolf kafka tingyun and bailu, gonna enjoy building this team giving kafka a lot of break effect and maybe some attack%, people sleeping on silverwolfs ability to add an allies element as a weakness to an enemy and we are likely not gonna get another character with an effect like that for a very long time if we ever do get one.
Yo this is actually an important video and point! I learned a lot from it (for example, didn't know about Entanglement becoming stronger with hits). Easy sub.
I think I get it now, but still too much Genshin meta in my head to put this to practice effectively. Also, Kafka is nice and all, but Potatoblazer best thumbnail. Miss her :(
btw, is pretty obv that silver wolfs is rlly good for a reason, in the future when kafka coms out you will have enough elctro caracters to do a 3 elec + silver wolf, making her OP you can just make any enemy weak to electro and all your team will be strog af, including that kafka is a caracter that needs to break enemy weekness to do her maximun dmg. is going to be crazy
I often have my Healers and tankers doing the breaks....so kinda frustrating sometimes when it happens.... Instead of my other characters carrying the Break Effects.
Serval would be an absolute unit of a sub DPS when build with Kafka in mind. Break effect to apply a huge shock, then supplement with speed and energy regen so she can recharge fast enough to unlimitedly prolong the weakness break shock. I'd also suggest welt in that comp if you have him, but he would compete his spot with sampo (unless u go nuts and do not take any healer or tank, a break effect welt build could make it work)
seeing this video two months later, it's crazy how right you were. CN theory crafting just came up with a big damage Break Effect build for Silverwolf. Tacking on Kafka to trigger it repeatedly would just be ungodly damage.
My welt is on 101.1% Break effect, but for now the other stats aren't great so I will need to grind for better items. But for now he works well enough.
Most people ignore break effect, cause they nerfed it. It was severly broken during beta. You get less back then going full unga bunga, but thats pretty much going to change once we get more character are less unga bunga and more oohlalaa (DoT comps).
I think building sanpo and kafka with 2 diff builds would the preferred In DoT teams you can still proc the DoT based on their attack even if the enemy doesn't have that specific weakness So depending on the situation you can easily switch someone to a atk build and the other with weakness to a break build
Absolutely! I think Sampo would almost always be the one to run break effect since he can break so well, and since wind breaks are generally the best for damage. Then you can proc it all with Kafka. It'll be fun. Lol
@Rain Floor sanpo's DoT or any other characters' DoT is seperate from break so no sanpo's DoT from attacks, skills and ults does not scale of break effect The break effect only scales with the DoT from break as the name suggests "Break Effect"
Reminder when u used thief relic 4 set it effect will active just by chipping of enemy weakness shield so u will get 3 energy everytime chipped off their shieldpool
I actually have a break set for my Silver Wolf in addition to her attack and effect set. With 100% Break, she can do over 60k on entanglement, as well as pushing the enemy down into the basement.
huh, that the break effect stuff my Seele/Asta's been up to, just left break effect on both of their sets and it turns out great neat and concise guide, will def use this for 1.1/2 :)
I think Only some characters like Yanqing apply damage at the end of freeze. Standard Break effect freeze and normal freeze effects don’t apply bonus damage.
I don't know if you intentionally left this out but, It's worth sharing that break effect also deals increased damage depending on the enemy's DEF, your level (break build is only usable if you're at lv 80), and is independent from elemental bonus stat. Fire bonus and all that won't increase the damage of the initial break damage or the break dot since "2 x Base break damage" only apply to your break effect and nothing else. Well, it does take into account of your unit's level, enemy defense, their max HP for some dot damage, and their total toughness bar (generally true for all elemental breaks). So, Asta, fire mc, etc., those who aren't DPS characters won't benefit from running elemental bonus on orb, they would much rather want HP% or DEF% for more survivability. This is why Pela and SW are essential for break/dot teams, or are better off going break effect build over other builds since you can just put in HP% orb on them so you can hunt for only Break Effect and Speed on their substats.
Doesn't break effect also scale how delayed a broken enemies turn is (it says this on the in game tool tip, for all damage types) I assume break effect also scales the unfreeze damage. Also doesn't bleed still scale from break, not sure if I missunderstood what you meant at the start about not building break effect for bleed, but I saw a video from Lily Aquina a few days back that detailed her testing of building Sushang specifically for break and how that was working out for her, and later a "future of break effect" video from 3 days ago.
Yup! I'm not sure you'd ever want to run it for that reason unless you were running Quantum or Imaginary because of the extra delay. And yes, with physical break does insane initial break damage. I mention that for a second here. But as for bleed, you're not going to run break effect JUST for bleed. It can work for Sushang because she also does such great initial break damage, and her kit is based on an enemy already being broken
me too tbh even tho i have Jing yuan i felt welt carry bcs they push back too far...know that break effect has something to do pushing enemy hard oh god i wanna try it.
Came here wanting to know how to buff my sampo and welt to oblivion but didn't want to waste resources testing. Thank you for the explanation. And I hope you get them soon
You forgot to mention that the base damage scales with level, meaning it will get stronger. Honestly, it's a good stat to have once you've reached good crit/attack/speed. Break Effect is surprisingly underrated for some reason. Now, Sampo ult says it increases DoT damage. Does this include the Wind Sheer effect from Weakness Break?
@@Fearienify Are you trolling or just ignorant? It scales because the BASE DAMAGE increases with level. There is no reducing Break Effect damage. Break Effect also works on characters like Sampo because Weakness Break wind sheer is separate from skill. There are MANY reasons Break Effect will continue to get better. I'm sorry this eludes you. Good luck!
Something thing ive heard but dont yet understand tbh, is that for nihility u just want as much effect hit rate as possible? Not sure how that stat rly works but question mainly for welt and sampo wich is best break effect vs effect hit rate?
Well, in 1.0 this was probably true. But in 1.1 they lowered the amount of Effect hit rate you need, since they lowered the resitance of high level enemies. So it's less important now. Especcciallyyy with the new event 4 star light cone.
Thank you so much for covering this, I was really confused how this worked but now my Sampo is finally doing some damage (and if my rng is good and I get welt he'll do lots of slow too!!)
I enjoy using Welt, its fun to see enemies never get a chance to even attack . Although I have sampo I got him much at much later point in game that I didn't had the resources to build him. And I have already chosen 8 characters to level up so he is gonna have to wait. Adding the hunt buffs in simulated universe makes him even more broken. He basically gets many turn to attacks and each time he pushes then enemies down all the while doing good amounts of damage. In overworld it goes without saying. You just ult and get most enemies (if not all) imprisoned and finish them off.
That was my idea as well. I personally think of building Kafka alongside Sampo, Luka and Silverwolf so that the three utilize DOT and Silverwolf can apply debuffs to the enemies for elemental weakness.
Will you benefit more from going ATK% on a Link Rope or Break Effect? I know this is a complicated question without being specific on which character i'm talking about but for example, if I wanted to get the most of my Sushang. Would ATK% be better or Break Effect? Same for characters like Serval, Himeko, Dan Heng etc. DPS characters generally speaking.
Can DoT team perform compete with traditional crit character? Because for example Seele can deal around 15k - 40k just per turn. Can DoT character in the future deal that amount of damage in short duration of time or It should be higher if they need more turn to see result of damage? Because if not include unique playstyle, why would player choose DoT character over traditional crit character if their damage is lower and harder to set-up when it comes to MoC content?
It depends. Currently, no. Because we don't have many characters who can really make use of Break Effect optimally. We'll just have to see when Kafka comes out if she really changes that
Quantum, physical, wind are good against single target like boss. Fire and lighting are good against multiple targets. Ice and imaginary are mainly for controlling. Ice and imaginary main dps are the weakest. I prefer Gepard or March 7th for frozen control and Welt for imaginary control since they don’t rely on shield break to apply debuffs.
I feel like you should have made specific mention somewhere that Break Effect only affects DoTs applied through break, and DoTs applied through other means such as skills and talents are not, they scale with the stats listed in the description for that source i.e. Kafka’s shock she applies with her ult only scales with atk, break effect does nothing for it unless you break the enemy with the ult, in which case it will apply a *second* shock at the same time that *does* scale with break effect. You briefly mentioned that Serval had applied two shocks in one of your examples, but you didn’t clarify to people that non-break DoTs work differently to break DoTs, which I think is pretty important information just so people don’t build break effect on a character thinking it’ll boost their DoT damage when facing an enemy who’s not weak to that characters element. That’d kinda suck.
I do mention that, basically verbatim. Here's the quote: "Now, you may just think Break Effect is initially just some extra damage on top, because, well, you can proc shock, or other damage over time debuffs, in other ways, such as using Serval's special to apply it, but that's not entirely true. Yes, you can proc it in other ways, but you get a higher damage multiplier through adding shock to an enemy when you break them. This can be even further increased by building a character with the Break Effect stat such as through relics. Here's my Serval WITHOUT any extra Break Effect percentage, and here's her WITH Break Effect on relics." I then go on to say: "So, Break Effect percentage increases the damage of the initial break damage, but also increases the damage over time damage as well." Then I show an image on screen that displays the difference. Idk how I could have been more clear. Lol.
Fun fact. One of Kafka's traces actually increases her DOTs multiplier by 24% of Kafka's Break Effect, up to a max of 24%. So Break Effect is absolutely needed on her.
@@m3t3or I did forget about that, so Kafka is perhaps a bad example lol, but the general point remains, break effect does not *directly* benefit non-break DoTs, you need specific abilities to make that happen. :p
hi! do you think Kafka uses the break effect planar ornaments sets or do you think she'll be built like any other DPS i.e prioritizes crits -> effect hit rate -> break effect? 🙂
Likely built similar to other DPS, and then having someone else built with break (Sampo, Asta, etc). This is because Kafka triggers any DoTs an enemy has on them with her skill, so she can trigger enhanced dots that others add. We don't currently know her break efficiency, but I doubt it's as high as Sampo or Asta, so I think one of those two would be built with break effect, because they can break easily, while she'd be built a different way. Hope that helps! I also hope Sampo is on her banner for that reason. 🤣
@@StrayMaverick Idk if the leaks with change when it comes out, but there's leaks of break efficiency in her Traces, LC, and Eidolon 2. There is also an incentive to having high Break efficiency with her Trace, boosting DOT damage the higher the break efficiency, "DMG multiplier is proportionally increased" watever that means in calculation. This is still speculation and needed to be tested how much break efficiency is needed but is decently powerful.
i decided to build welt as a dps. i have like 20 or 30% break effect on him and most of my relics are atk, crit rate, crit dmg + break effect sub stats. his dps potential was mad good so couldnt waste that lmao
I just made 20k damage with break effect, got the achievement and I don't know what I did. Currently using Welt + Tingyun + Natasha + fire trailblazer, I came to the video to see if I could understand how I did such damage and how to repeat that lol
Gepard. His special is just so tanky that it's wild. You'll likely ALSO have to build MC if you're doing the Forgotten Hall, tho. Unless you pull for like, Luocha, or another shielder or healer down the line. Or if you have Bailu. Lol
I think they will be with Kafka, but currently you can't really make use of a DoT team outside of Simulated Universe. That's why I'm excited for Kafka. Lol
Every debuff freeze[ ice or enlightment [ quantum imaginary imprisioment] or bleeding effect works on effect hit rate increase duration of time stun and dot of enemies. If you have imaginary dps like welt do not make for him effect hit rate. Its not worth it better fit with like luocha. But if we talk about break effect it works for all elements it is a increase of chance to break defense of enemy.❤ About chance to obtain break effect count weakness of elementals. If you choose wrong you do not obtain dot and breakeffect. And to prepere fast answer about did it is 100% chance if we break above 100% breakeffect the answer is No. Why because it is depends on monster effect resistance magic right? So ofcourse you have more chance to make break then normally but not immediatly.
Yeah, they can stack. So you can use Serval to add shock, then break with her and add an instance of enhanced shock. I state that under an image near the beginning, but I probably should have been more clear about that. Lol.
We'll have to wait and see when she releases. Kafka really wants to be run with other people who add DoTs, like Sampo, so Himeko might be okay. And Gepard is good anywhere since his shields are godly. Lol
It's so hard! I want to pull for Kafka, but SW's skillset is just too good an option in the long run. I'd love to have both of them, but I want to spend my guaranteed on Kafka's first...
So basically it’s better to run Silver Wolf with break effect and effect hit rate, i would like to add I was one of those people that thought break effect was how fast you break the enemy but the reality was how much dmg it does after breaking I know that effect hit rate is your debuff/dots success rate in %.
Seems to me that at the current moment, the only time Break Effect Percentage makes a difference is when using Nihility Path Resonance in Simulated Universe. This is due to the fact that Nihility Path centers around DoT. This being the case, it would make sense for Break Effect Percentage to be considered as it does increase the DoT applied when you break an enemies toughness.... Is that correct?
i don’t know if i am doing something wrong but i find break effect pretty useless. By the time i break an enemy, he is already 90% dead. And chipping away at the shield takes so long while enemies recover that shield in one turn. It’s almost impossible to stack any debuff on the enemy
