Thank you so much for this video. I'm a fan of Jungian psychology but I never quite really "got" the shadow. I found that you were so graciously authentic and this video and that's what makes it impactful. It really feels like talking to a friend.

Fantastic Video! The piece about your mother's eyeliner was FANTASTIC storytelling. While I haven't called it "Shadow Work" I've been trying to do something similar to it for the past several years. Trying to acknowledge and deal with the parts of myself that I've blocked off over the years. This made me think about some of that in a different way and even helped me recognize a new shadow while I was watching it. Thank You.
@GavinHorn13
@GavinHorn13 6 месяцев назад
I appreciate your compliment a lot I've really been working on my storytelling so I'm happy you acknowledged that :) I'm happy that this video helped clarify things about yourself, On a side note, I have been looking to network with other RU-vidrs to collectively share things we learn about making content on the platform so we can all get better alongside each other, would you be interested in swapping discords to do that? I sent my discord to the email on your channel if you're interested

You helped me to understand in greater depth many things I thought I already knew. I found your video and left it in an open google tab, I must say that I always procrastinate and do everything but watch productive videos like yours, until today in the early morning I decided to watch it and you were the first, and you really opened my mind and I really loved this concept of shadows. Thank you very much for everything and for all your knowledge. It makes me very happy and puts a smile on my face to know that what you are today is the result of a very hard process full of difficulties. As of today you look fantastic and I know that someday I will look as wonderful as you ❤‍🔥

8:10 Mann I resonate with this soo well. I have similar experiences with my mom. Luckily I was able to leave her. But jeez, she turned me into a completely passionate pushover that would never try to manipulate anyone because I hate being manipulated. I'm now completely depressed with constant suicidal ideation just from my realization of how many people are like her in this world, and that's a hard thought to get past. It certainly is a complex issue but this video gives me motivation to try and understand myself more at the very least.

Fuck dude, i'm in the same boat with manipulative parents, and while processing the info Gavin gave us you helped me connect the same dots you did. Thank you so much for this insight. And, I hope you keep pushing through with your depression because it's no easy task. It's the one of the hardest really, speaking from experience. Always remember that you are not alone and never be afraid to reach out to your loved ones for help. You can change the world man. But change your world first ;)

A friend from Brazil here! This video made me realise how all of the things I wanted to do were to make others think something good of me, and when I couldn't do it because of my lazyness that I wasn't able to accept on myself, I kept this anxiety of how people think of me, since I "disapointed" them. Sorry for the typos, but thanks for this!
@Yipper64

12:50 I really hate liars, and I know exactly what experience brought that out. I had a friend who was just... Yeah psychopathic. he was two faced and abusive. It was a constant cycle of him getting angry at me, cutting me off, and saying "im sorry" a week later, until he took it to far and I wasnt accepting his apology. So in that context am I just... not accepting the dishonest part of my personality? Thats... hard for me to accept. Oh wait no I got it... integrity. Yeah, I think I have integrity. And the shadow is a lack of integrity. Because I do sometimes lack integrity. Which... in a sense is dishonesty. Huh.

Been letting myself go ever since I graduated so I've had a lot of brain fog lately, so I had to replay a lot of parts of the video lol. In the end, I managed to understand what it was all about, and I recognized that there were a decent amount of times where I got irritated by someone's simple actions, either good or bad. Really eye-opening, and I'm hoping I'll be able to use this advice to its fullest, considering I'm starting my first job soon :) Thanks a bunch, you've earned yourself a lifelong sub! I'll probably update this comment sometime in the future

Man, I've essentially been hating myself most of my life, and I tried so many different things from self improvement to acceptance etc. But your videos are one of the content that truly helped me the most, realizing that I'm not all these bunch of characteristics but actually I'm everything at the same time made me completely change the perspective on myself. Maybe you channel changed my whole life and it's not even an exaggeration. I thank you for these videos and i hope you keep doing this god-blessed work. Cheers man.

A bit late to the party but thank you for the vid! Really appreciate the genuineness. I was doing the exercise with the good and bad parts and I noticed as I was listing qualities it is sometimes hard to tell which side they go on. Like normal/weird, realistic/dreamy, passive/proactive. And then I took a shower and I thought it started to feel a bit weird to label some characteristics as bad. So it became about accepting the duality and I started writing down opposite parts of myself willy nilly on either side. And maybe I strayed a little but it did ground me. I'm definitely looking more into this. So thank you for sharing!

Fantastic video! Thank you 💜 those exercises seem really useful, I'll definitely be giving them a go! I've figured a good bit of this out over the years but never had such nice terminology for it, it's a lot easier to think about it all this way! Are there any books on psychology and such which you'd recommend? I've always been fascinated by psychology ✨📚

Women learn to cry as little girls as a form of getting out of trouble, It's called, 'Turning on the taps', and it's really sad how many women don't grow out of it. The fact no water came out of your mothers eyes that day is probably down to discomfort - I mean, it's opposite to where they learn it, crying to parents = out of trouble. A woman crying like that to her son is really pitiful, but I just want you to know many women out there don't grow out of it... and even if you saw her tears, it would still be just as much of a lie.

Can we also talk about how lazyness and procrastination are not the same thing? Lazyness would be intentionally taking rest and not feeling bad about it, but we use it to bully being active at all time. People are probably just procrastinating because they can't deal with the emotion that comes with the task
@Yipper64

1:22 I could see how I could be convinced to but likely not if I have proper critical thinking skills, its a strange hypothetical because it almost assumes itself to be true by the premise? I mean, I could definitely see myself not speaking out about it, staying silent. There's that. So watching more of the video I guess in that context my shadow would be you know, speaking out against people, and not fearing consequences for that. Or as in, I ignore the part of myself that wants to do that. Something like that? this is a bit confusing...

Hey Gavin, I have a question and I hope you see this. I have been addicted to video games for the past decade or so and I always wonder what do people do if they've been addicted to videogames and they "stop" other than go to the gym and read a book because I game like 10 hours a day every day and I would love if you would give some advice.
@GavinHorn13
@GavinHorn13 6 месяцев назад
Well, I'm not sure I 100% understand your question but I think you're asking, what happens when you stop, and possibly some advice on how to get started. I would say it depends on what your goals are, if you feel gaming is making you feel miserable because of you're lack of accomplishment then that suggests that you spend that time in the gym, working on a business, learning, etc. You would likely feel a greater sense of well-being because you're progressing toward fulfilling your purpose. To start honestly you need to drop the expectation that you will be able to quit cold turkey because if you have been playing that much like I was that is such a deep-rooted habit that it is unreasonable to think you can stop 100% in one day, it took me almost 14-16 months to fully quit. If you look to make realistic progress on a day-to-day basis- 3 less hours today, only playing 5/7 days of the week vs 7/7 before- that's when you will make the most sustainable progress in my opinion I can tell you took the time to write your comment which is why I replied like this so I hope that I could answer your question in a way that helps you in the future :) - Get 1% better today

When I saw this it actually put a smile on my face, but to clarify my question, when I wake up I eat breakfast do school until 2:30 ish (I am homeschooled) then start gaming until and after dinner. **what would I do if I wasn't gaming** I even stay up until like 3am to game some more. Don't get me wrong recently I have been meeting amazing people and we actually talk about all sorts of stuff, and like in your video we aren't friends because of a game or weed, we're friends because we just have a good time around each other. Anyways, yeah instead of gaming what would I even do? I can't go to the gym because I'm too young, but if I were to start a business or learn something. What would I even start with? And yes I agree that quitting just like that doesn't work because when it is this bad, you need to take it slow and take baby steps. Thank you for commenting it shows that your care about your followers. :D @@GavinHorn13

Apologies for taking so long to reply lmao I don't get notifications for replies I'm not sure how old you are but if I were you I would find something that you find meaningful to spend your time to "justify" improving yourself I can't tell you what to pursue but you probably would want to do something that would make you enough money to be financially free which isn't possible imo without pursuing entrepreneurship Hypothetically if you set your goal to be this fit, and successful entrepreneur that would give you a reason to not stay up till 3am playing games, that was true for me at least The skills that would 100% benefit you to learn in the time you're not gaming are things like, social skills/charisma, learn about online business, and learning how to take care of yourself I'm not sure how old you are but I can tell you're very bright for your age and I see you will have a great future!
