Learn how to draft a trouser/pant block pattern, for men's or women's, from scratch. A formula is provided for both male and female blocks, as well as the body measurements you'll need. You can use your own measurements or follow what you see here. Learn how to measure the avatar in CLO to get the specs you need. Draft the block, then put it together in 3D and true up all the seams.
**This tutorial can be helpful whether or not you're working in CLO 3D. You can follow this formula for manual pattern making or in any 2D CAD software.

Block drafting and the how and why to fit them is the number one video series clo and md both need. This is awesome.

I agree! I wish I could get them done faster. I'm making what I struggle to find out there. I'm glad you like it🧡

Incredible resource, thank you! Your friend from Central St Martins deserves a huge virtual hug. Genius Alex McQueen studied there.

She does☺She gives me permission to share a lot of her tricks and she also does a lot of the pattern making for my company.

Thanks for the tutorial it's super helpful! Just wondering if it is only designed for stretch fabric as there is no ease added to the waist but then there is some ease added to the hip but only a very little amount? Would the percentage calculation change for the front and back hip measurements for non-stretch fabric as I think the overall hip ease is only 4% which isn't much? Thanks again!

It’s meant for a woven, but it is intended to be a block, so depending on the pattern style you plan to use it for you could def add more ease. Whatever you want. And if you’re not sure I’d reference a similar style in your wardrobe as a reference.

Thank you for the video, really helpful! I just want to ask about the math section (ankle part), it says that 3/8 of an inch is 0.375 when it should be 0.95cm, please advise? I think it is the same with the knee measurement also.
@ides.studio
@ides.studio 10 месяцев назад
Oh no! Thank you. That is a mistake if I said .375cm. It is actually just the decimal for 3/8 so maybe that is what I meant. 🤦🏻 Either way sorry for the confusion!

When I hold 'D' for extending points, it gives me the error "Please select a pattern". How do I go around this?
@ides.studio
@ides.studio 11 месяцев назад
Make sure you’re on the Edit Pattern tool and select a single point. Then you hold the D key while you move the point. That keeps curve points from moving with the segment point. Let me know if that works.

How are you showing the math block etc inside clo3d.

Would the math be the same for metric measurements? ie. cm?
@ides.studio
@ides.studio Год назад
Yep! Same percentage values, division is the same. Sorry I didn’t provide the metric equivalents in the formula, it just got too chaotic. I usually call 1cm=3/8” or 2.5cm=1” for easy math, but you could do each one individually using Google for precision.

Hi Maam, From where can I download these avatars?
@ides.studio

Hi there, they'll hopefully be available for download soon on my website, but in the meantime you can email me at hello@ides.studio and I will be happy to send them to you. Otherwise, they come with any of the garments available on my website.

the tutorial is so confusing because my clo is not acting the same way. it puts pints in different distances etc.
@ides.studio

Ok well CLO issues I can troubleshoot, but when you say I overcomplicate it that's a different thing. What do you mean by "it puts points at different distances"? I'm happy to help if you give me more info. Feel free to email hello@ides.studio to go more in depth.

I think this block doesn't work for developing a jean pattern..
@ides.studio
@ides.studio 3 месяца назад
This is for a high waisted trouser block, but you could turn it into a jean, it won’t be a jean just following the steps in this video.

this is so overly complicated is so weird. Why are you making this in inches? they use centimeters in London.
@ides.studio
@ides.studio 6 месяцев назад
Hi there. I do my absolute best to make pattern making as uncomplicated as possible. It is very difficult. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the video. I use inches because I am American and I am most familiar with inches. I try to provide the conversion as much as possible. I am not located in London, sorry.
