Part 2! Hill starts:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nR_MgkK3jTc.html Since so many people have asked: The Corvette uses the same steering wheel for manual and automatic cars. The paddles on my steering wheel are to turn the active rev match system on and off. A video explaining the active rev match system can be found on my channel. Thanks!
+Street Speed 717 You're a great teacher. You're disposition is very relaxed and positive which makes me, as a viewer, feel very at ease. Great job and thanks for the video!
+shaneclarke995 you can go from any gear to any gear. Would you want to? Well, if you're at high rev in 4th and you shift to first, it'll let you, but you'll probably screw up your transmission and blow an engine in the process... So you won't get far. But yes, you can skip gears (3->1, 2->4, 4->1, etc... Though, first gear is generally for starting, so shifting back to first typically isn't done).
+shaneclarke995 You should be in gear, technically, when coming to a stop. When stopped (0 MPH), you should be in neutral. Otherwise, you'll wear through clutches quite quickly.
Likewise, this video really helps me out as well. I got a four-speed Festiva as a car and my father gave me tips on it. Your instructions remind me of him. Still couldn't get my mom to use the clutch very well; she was one that uses two feet on a automatic. Hills were hard on me though...
Nothing like driving a Manual for the first few times and hearing your dad scream “CLUTCH. BREAK. CLUTCH GAS. LET OFF THE CLUTCH. PUSH THE DAMN CLUTCH. OH SHIT WTF ARE YOU DOING. HIT THE DAMN GAS DAMN IT!” Ahhhhhh good times good times😅😅😂
@@unfinishedquest I know. After I posted it I noticed it spelled it like the name😂🤦🏼♂️ idk if it was auto correct or what but I thought I spelled it right😂😂😂
The scariest thing is when you borrow your neighbours car to learn stick shift and then the neighbour comes out his house and randomly starts calling the cops
Literally watched this 4 years ago and did just that... said f*ck it went out and bought a manual and learned how to drive it on the 8 mile drive home and Ill never forget that day! So great
@@nstice1 exactly, if you don't want to stall you should press the clutch all the way down instead of giving it more gas and try again, at least it's faster. If you freak out and release the clutch too soon you will stall and it's much worse and takes way more time to try again.
Many people here in germany are even paying extra money to get a manual transmission. For example some Mercedes Cars arent even available with manual transmissions. Mostly young people want to drive manual cars.
My friends coworker's car got broken into, they didnt take anything and she was trying to figure out why they broke in. We think its because someone was trying to steal it but couldn't drive it!
My mom is a teacher and everytime she teaches me how to drive, she'd always relates things to physics like torque power, velocity, acceleration and it honestly gets a little bit annoying even tho i know it's related. I watched this video and kinda self-taught myself to manual driving. Now I'm driving my mom's car. Thank you so much.
Yuvi Singh Well, first I'd need to purchase a manual transmission vehicle on top of the one I already have, learn how to drive it, and then find a place to store the manual transmission vehicle. Another car is huge expense I don't need.
Bought a 2000 Mustang, stick shift. I've never driven a stick but I've been riding motorcycles for years.... Got in the car, didn't stall once. Makes driving so much more fun.
The difficult part for most is starting off in 1st. Just about every car I've driven has its own 1st gear roll on temperament. I wonder why car manufacturers haven't figured out how to make that roll on easier and reduce stalling. Starting on a hill is also something to practice. You can't roll back far if a car's behind you.
@@jerms6642 One thing that really bothered me about this guys lesson was when your at at light or intersection or what ever he says to put it into neutral. the problem with that is if god forbid you happen to get rear ended your gonna go flying off because theres nothing holding the car back. if you leave the car in gear and get rear ended odds are your foots gonna come off the clutch stalling the car and stopping you from rolling forward. it might be a pain at first but trust me ive been doing this i was your age and im 34 now i dont even realize im dong it anymore. hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask, good luck
@@deacondank6249 Use throttle but not too many, your best way to truly get the car to move is moving the rpms up to 2,000, and then let off the clutch slowly until you feel it dipping and you will then feel movement you’ll know, the Tachometer will also tell you and how it will do that is the rpm gauge will go down a little and then it starts to move so keep practicing don’t give up man, also Motion will tell you and you know if you got it right if you feel motion and keep doing that until 5 mph 10 km/h, and then accelerate and it will go, simple just concentrate and don’t be nervous, I struggled as well at first but after a while it becomes second nature.
You succeeded. This is the most easy-going, friendly, tutorial of all the ones in my tabs. My one and only experience with manual was in an emergency situation with having had no one teach me a thing. You can imagine that I am very grateful for your taking a moment to show this properly and patiently
So I bought an '94 Integra as my first car. It has Enzo R racing seats w/ harnesses, exhaust, and NRG wheel. Maybe some other mods. Didn't even know how to drive stick. I basically just watched a shit ton of manual videos before hand. Had a few tips from family who drives stick. But only one person got in the car w/ me and he drove. I basically drove it around the parking lot and stalled a bunch. Couldn't take it home that day because I wasn't comfortable driving on streets. Someone took it home for me. But the next day I just drove it around the block a bit and said fuck it. Drove it to work. Stalled a few times, held up traffic a little. But on the way back I didn't stall at all. It's so much fun and has got way easier. People look at me crazy walking around w/ my steering wheel. I've been stoked the passed few days. Despite the accidental burnouts I'm in love. She pulls hard. This video did help a bit though
+Mishotaki It's not that I was trying to sell you the video, I was just explaining some of the reasons why driving a manual is still something cool to learn even in a world where they are becoming more rare. Many people have found the video to be very helpful and a well rounded look at driving a manual car, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy but thank you for watching.
I have learned sooooo much from watching this video. I haven't bought my manual car yet but I am preparing myself by watching videos before I get a live lesson from my cousin. Thank you so much, I am so excited! :)
+FSXgta or paddle-shifters for 100% control, at least in my Camaro, not sure about most other paddle shifters. Doesn't shift unless you shift up or down, just eliminates the clutch.
MessiahNerves I know you can, it's called revmatching or powershifting, but that will over stress and wear out the syncros in your transmission with continuous use.
5 or 6 easy steps. Step 1. Push in clutch. Step 2 . Put in gear Step 3. Floor gas Step 4. Dump clutch Step 5. Hold on for dear life. Step 6. Clean under pants if your in a real car.
“It’s like jumping in a pool if you don’t know how to swim worst case scenario your drowned or wreak the car “ I had to pause the video and rethink buying a manual 😂😂
Thank you so much for this instructional video! My dad wants me to start driving the manual Honda we have by this week and watching this video has helped with the nervousness. God speed, wish me luck :D
You wanna know how I learned to drive stick? When I bought my second car, I had to teach myself on one very scary and lonely trip from Fort Worth TX to the other side of Dallas.
im screwed. ive been driving a manual for 4 years yet I stopped driving one for two months and then started driving automatic for the first time and all of a sudden I forgot how to drive a manual.
+Amanda herod No worries! Try letting the clutch out a little slower and adding more gas at the same time. Depending on the car it may not have a lot of power to roll forward with just the clutch as easily as the corvette does. You'll get em next time
+Street Speed 717 It's a 2013 Dodge Challenger. I took it for a ride today and I did okay. I stalled a few times lol but I am getting used to it. Thanks for the help 😊
Really helpful. Love the way you explain everything. I thought manuals were very complicated to drive but you explained it well , i now know how easy it is to drive one. Thanks !
David TheKing Bot unlike SEATTLE. Lmao. You people don’t even know what’s going on here? California is getting better probably because all of them are moving to this damn place
Just got a manual Volkswagen from a relative passing. Learned the stick basics a few years back, but only an hour of instruction on a Jerry rigged truck. Thank you so much for this!!
It’s been two years since I’ve driven a manual. I never worried about rev matching because the camaro had it built in. Gonna watch this to help me for when I pick up the hellcat!
Lol, new automatics are faster than manuals, but he isn't a car guy cause he doesn't want a manual, alright lol. If you live in the middle of a huge busy city, manual are a pain in the ass, 1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1. gets annoying. I'd personally love to own a Manual sports car, because I personally enjoy driving them, but it's not for everyone, and just because someone doesn't like it it doesn't mean they're not a car guy.
I kind of thought that at first too, thought of a manual was kind of overwhelming also. But honestly once you sit down in one in a parking lot and play around with it, it's easy. I haven't had to drive one on a steep incline yet, which, I will be incredibly nervous when that day comes. But the shifting and everything becomes second nature, muscle memory. After driving the same manual car a while, you won't look at your RPM's or down at your shifter ever.. The sound and feel of the car will be enough to let you know when to up/down shift etc. It's almost like you become one with the car, kind of corny but it's true lmao.
You are not a car guy, dont buy a manual youll be crying like a little beach on trafic, real car guys will dominate a manual no matter if you are on traffic it ill be a peace of cake on traffic for us.
I was talking to my friend about how I want to learn how to drive manual and this boy butted into our conversation and told me, "I think girls shouldn't drive manual cars. It's way too complicated for them." THE NERVE OF THIS DUDE. I didn't know what to say but he motivated me to learn manual even more. 😃
Thanks Man ... it's been 15 years since I had my last manual transmission car, let's just say a refresher was definitely needed before I pick up my new car.
I'm sure it's not as bad when you're actually doing it, but it seems like a ton of stuff to keep track of. Probably not a good idea for me to try this where I live, people here drive like if they go under the 50mph their car will explode.
I don't think I ever said thank you for this. I was having a hard time using the clutch, but after watching this. I did what you said, I got my dad to drive my car to an empty part of the parking lot at the mall. I told him to go inside while I tried to get used to the clutch. I was easily able to engage the clutch the first time thank to your help to and was able to drive the car home with no problems.
I have mixed emotions. Part of me wants to be sad for you part wants to say you didn't deserve that BMW but my Supra got totalled by someone who couldn't find the brakes so I am sorry for your loss.
this was actually really helpful. i really want to learn how to drive manual and feel more engaged in my next possible car purchase.. i’ve always loved cars and only started driving a year ago but learned with an automatic. this vid was super informative so thanks for that! def referencing this in the future
OMG!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I have learned how to drive manually because of you. This is the best instructional video on the web. Please keep uplaoding more videos
The best video for this on the internet to be honest. Helped me teach myself to drive stick and I will NEVER go back to an auto as long as I have a choice
Thank you so much, my dad has been trying to teach me how to drive a manual but I haven’t been able to grasp the feel of it. This really helped so thanks again.
Picked up a manual transmission today and this video helped so much! Today was my first time driving a stick shift and I managed to drive on main roads! Great video
+Alex N. In Europe you have to pass a manual driving test to drive a manual car. So dangerous that Americans can use an automatic licence to drive manual
+alex ojideagu I wish that applied here in the US.. Americans are pretty lazy for the most part dude. Which is why I wanted to learn to drive a manual transmission.
One of the best tutorials I've seen so far. I've been driving an automatic for years and I'm about to buy a Subaru WRX once I get this down... Very thorough and easy to understand for someone as clueless as I. :) Thank you!
This was extremely helpful man. Im going to get a manual and though I've driven manual, its been a while and this was an amazing refreshment.thank you so much
Thanks for the encouragement! I bought my first manual without knowing how to drive one and I'm really glad I did. It's definitely a work in progress but it's a lot of fun and a cool skill to have!
+● Barack Obama ● You can pretty much idle along in second if you have the space between you and the car in front of you. The trick is not to get caught up in the stop and go game.
+Erin Kilpatrick Or another trick is to put the car into 'neutral' gear, so you can take your foot off the clutch and rest for a bit, until you have to move again.
+● Barack Obama ● not really when you'll get used to it the movement clutch gas pedal will come just as natural as breathing, you won't even need to do it slowly to get it done right
This is a really really great instructional video! Thank you! I drove a long time ago- this is the refresher course I needed!! your right! mastering that movement of letting the clutch go in an empty parking lot is great practice- the rest comes a little easier! Thanks again! 😉🤙🏼💪🏼
