How to EASILY set up Tenkara “level line”

I spontaneously decided to make this video on the bank of a river since I didn't have a rig already made for the Nirvana 400. This shows how easy it is to rig up on the trail but I hope my explanation does this justice.
I don't know what this method is called so I will call it the "double lilian" method. It basically just recreates the type of knot the level line has from the lilian but where the tippet meets the level line.
Lilian= overhand knot
Level line to lilian= slip knot (with about an inch of tag end to pull from)
Level line to tippet= overhand stopper knot on level line
Tippet to level line = slip knot
Tippet to fly= your knot of choice but I use the Rapala knot.
All catches I land are using this method so it's certainly tried and true BUT this does not mean it is the only way of doing it. To each their own but many new Tenkara anglers are looking for a video to help them get started. Don't be afraid to get creative and find your solution but feel free to try this and land HUNDREDS of fish!
Tight lines!

It helps to have your lines pre-made before you go fishing. I put mine in those small 3” x 4” clear zip lock pouches and label them (length and line size). If you use a tippet ring, then the lines can continue to be used over and over again without rarely needing to make any more, except you need multiple lengths if you own multiple rods of different lengths. Thats the nice thing about fluorocarbon lines with a tippet ring, much heavier than mono so they cast better, and durability means thousands of fish without ever having to change anything except tippet. Makes it super easy. I will grab my 3.0 and 3.5 size lines for calm conditions and also a 4.0 and 4.5 size if it gets a little more windy.

Thanks, Skiddy! Very helpful! I usually use a tippet ring between my level line and tippet just because it makes it faster to retie after it breaks or to add different size tippet.

Been using loop to loop since I got my Tenkara rid the first year Tenkara USA started.

I do the exact same line setup but different tippet to fly (which im looking to try a different/faster one on the river). Western fly fishing just felt so complicated to make changes and be adaptable while on the river. This setup is just so simple and part of why I moved to this style of fishing

Amen to that! More uptime on fishing means more catches! 🙌

Do you pick up the bits of line that you snip off? Seems like if we all leave our clippings on the ground….that is a lot of micro plastic .

I am a leave no trace kind of person. I assume most of my viewers don’t have to stress about what I do with my garbage. For your knowledge I pocket them and throw them away. I can’t confirm for any other angler…

Not sure what I’m missing but the slip loop seems to be more of a knot and doesn’t release from the Lillian very well. Have had to cut it off a couple times, other times I’m painstakingly picking it apart. Am I missing something or is this just how you have to disassemble it

A slip knot should be coming off super easy with minor effort. I imagine you might be putting your tag in through the big loop and the two additional loops by accident. I have never had to cut my level line off. Try this other video for a better angle. EASY Level Line Tenkara Setup! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qmo5SayVy7U.html
