The honeysuckle I planted last year has been growing really fast and I need to make sure it is growing in the right places. Here's how I'm tackling this plant in case you ever need to with your own!

I love Honeysuckle! I planted one small cutting in my yard and by the next summer I had my own privacy fence. And it smells so amazing!

Great job on this video. I am trying to do the same thing (live in RI) so your demonstration was really helpful! Thanks so much. Not to mention you seem very nice and it was a pleasure to watch 😊

I am growing three vines.....the same three mentioned in your title. My clematis and wisteria are pretty well-established now. Each are on a trellis mounted to a wall. The third is this very same honeysuckle that I recently bought to climb a new bird feeder I installed. I thought the honeysuckle would attract hummingbirds and be much easier than doing all that maintenance required to keep a hummingbird feeder fresh and clean. I enjoyed your video. I wish I had seen it before I installed mine....I think I did overkill with eyelet screws and wires when all I really needed was some twine. I had no idea.

No worries! The best thing you can do to learn is to try new things! And there’s nothing wrong with what you did, I just enjoy sharing my experience with what I do in the garden ☺️ I hope they are all growing well!

Maybe you can put an S hook in the the top of the trellis to hold the vine until its strong enough to wrap around the wood .Just a thought lol

So glad i found you again. I watched you plant the honeysuckle and then was tempted to buy one myself and planted it in march. Im in the uk and mine suffered terribly with mildew early in the year so i had to cut it back. Its now at the top of my arbour which is a bit taller than yours but is very spindly, so i will cut it back again to encourage it to branch out. Its a beautiful fragrance and i am very tempted to buy a few more. Thanks for the inspiration. May i ask what your interesting trees are called that have a strange growing habit please.

Why not just swirl the jute around the entire pole? Seems easier instead of tiny pieces all around.

Hello, thank you for the video. I'm in zone 9 in Central Florida and I'm thinking about using something similar to these on my front fence line on my acre property. My granddad grew honeysuckles on that same chain link fence years ago but they were never taken care of properly unfortunately after he passed and I would love to use a plant like this for lots of privacy but also to brighten up the front part of the property. Would this be a good option for me? I'm still learning the basics of all of this stuff but videos like yours definitely help.

This honeysuckle would be a good option for you! You could try a jasmine vine as well, or if there are any evergreen vines that would grow in your area that would give you even more privacy. Another great honeysuckle is called ‘Harlequin’ and has variegated leaves!

Thanks for this video on how to grow honeysuckle up a trellis! I have a column on my front porch. The vine is about 6 or 8 inches away from it.. should I buy a miniature trellis to get it started or just wait until it grows enough to use the jute string as you suggested? It gets plenty of sun and drainage and I live in North Carolina. Thanks!

I wouldn’t worry at all about it! Just let it grow until it gets close enough, and it would be a good idea to use some jute twine just like I did to help it along the first year

Hi Joshua, found your channel while searching for Scentsational Honeysuckle. I'm in zone 5. In Southern Maine. I have a metal sign in my front yard that I want to get this to climb up. I have a small circle bed surrounding it with Daylilies. Do you think I could keep the side growth contained so it is mostly vertical growth without hurting the plant? Thanks!

As long as you don’t mind pruning the honeysuckle annually, this may not be a mad idea. However it will get pretty woody over time, so you may need to give it a hard prune after a while. You could try it and see! I have seen someone grow a honeysuckle on a large round trellis and it grew beautifully there!

Is it a native vine?
@JoshuasGarden
@JoshuasGarden Год назад
It is native to Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia

oh no no no we want to grow native plants. Many of the plants you are growing are invasive in North America. Good info on trellising though.
@JoshuasGarden

This variety of honeysuckle is non-invasive and much slower growing than other honeysuckle

I agree! Help the pollinators, plant native.
