Just to clear some things up; the reason you cannot bring your seamless co-op character into the vanilla Elden Ring is because of the added items you get when you first spawn into the game; these items are foreign and so the vanilla game will flag your file and most likely get you banned for the foreign items.

@@xander.pierce If you use a cheat engine to remove the co-op items (The summoner, orb, mists, etc) you should be safe to transfer back, but there are also other things that the co-op mod adds (The rot conditions when you die for instance) that you might also have to remove to prevent it from flagging you. I've not heard of anybody doing it, so I don't know for sure. Sorry.

I recently encountered a problem that pertains to this, I was launching the seamless co op file as you normally would to start the game, and when I pressed continue from previous story it had launched a save file from the non modded version of the game, giving me the seamless co op items as soon as I launched in the game. I deleted the profile after seeing this comment in fear of my account getting banned.

Multiplayer mod is not perfect, but even with the flaws is has it still many freaking times better than the original pvp. I wish FS made this from the start.

No kidding. Every single time we tried to co-op, an invader almost immediately appeared and killed us all. After the 5th time it happened within the span of half an hour, we all downloaded the mod and never looked back.

Uh i did this and the save didnt appear. Is it because it was a first time boot up? I went ahead and made a character for the time being and everything but after doing the above and loading in its not there... did i do something wrong? do i have to do it again?

Thank you very much for the video! I would like to know how mods work with this mod. I mean, if I install a cosmetic mod (changing a hairstyle or an armor color) does my friends need to install the cosmetic mod too? Or will it be compatible anyway?

some mods will cause problems, but cosmetics will just show up on your end, and look like the normal armor/weapon on your friend's end. Other mods will likely cause problems unless you and your friends both have them installed.

Im having trouble, so I did everything you said but when i opened the folder it already had a co2 file in place so i deleted that co2 file and copied and pasted the sl2 file and changed the name to co2. But when i went to check if my vanilla character is loadable in seamless it wasnt popping up, I tried everything i thought of and still didnt work. Do you know what i could do?

The CO2 file and the SL2 file are separate save files once you do the copy. So if you play on either of them they will de-sync.

For some reason when using the "buy my wares" save file from mod nexus I no longer get the items automatically, I remembered doing it this way long ago and it still works but just no multiplayer items for some reason edit: also happens with my further progressed characters

Is it possible to find the save files from the downloaded version on my xbox and use those for this mod on my steam deck? I've been searching everywhere for some version of cross save because I finally bought the steam version only to realize I can carry on with my character that's fighting the Fire Giant. Haven't beaten the game yet, I play slow, and I don't feel like starting from scratch.

maybe. as long as the save is an SL2 file it should work. You might even be able to use a save tranfer tool to swap it onto an SL2 file if Xbox doesnt save it the same.

Some context: My friend and I killed one of the tree avatars in their world. We decided to join another friends world (they haven't really done anything) and the tree avatar we defeated earlier didn't spawn in the other friend's world. So does progression from our world affect the host's world?

It should not. You are loading into the host's world with the host's worldstate. So there's something else weird going on there!

Similar thing happened to me. What I think is happening is that the game detects the items you have in your inventory, so if you already obtained the items given by the boss, the game thinks you have defeated the boss and it wont spawn.

Wrong! It does. The mod info specifies that when other players join your world, they join as "hosts" as well which progresses their world at the same time so that it does not have to be done twice. Hence the reason that you both should use separation mist when you don't want to play together anymore even if you are the OG host and everyone in your party has left. You should still use separation mist

What do you do if you have a character made in seamless co op mode? It seems like your character file replaces the ones already there.

Correct. In that case you'll need to use a save file transfer program to merge the two files into one.

I feel like I should add that if there is already a co2 file in the directory when you go to make a copy you may have to delete it and its .bak backup file and replace it with the copy you make. This is what I had to do.

LOL! You just make a copy of the SL2 file, but change the "SL2" part to "CO2" If you already HAVE a CO2 file you'll need to rename that one or delete it. The SL2 file stores your Vanilla saves, and the CO2 file stores your Co-op saves, and yes they both need to be in that same folder where you found the SL2 file.

Yes, you can have both in the same folder at the same time. They ARE separate completely. But no you don't want to rename them back to SL2 without using a save editor to remove the modded items.

You can. You can either swap out .co2 files each time. OR use a save game transfer tool (Check Nexus Mods for one) to transfer all your saves into one .CO2 file.

Yes. Once the files have been copied and renamed they are entirely separate, so you can play either. The only difference is how you start the game, and that the progress you make on one, will not transfer to the other.

Hey big man, it worked very well, and I made a ton of progress on one of my saved accounts (respec’d it into a tank strength build) and after 5 hours I decided to quit game, came back a day later and it reverted everything back, any reason why? Wow! I have no idea. Did you try (saving your current file then...) Using the .bak file to see if it saved him there? Just rename the .bak file as the new CO2 file and runn it. Only things I can think are if the save got corrupted or if steam overwrote it?

The two files need to be kept seperate, so if you do anything to the vanilla file it will not effect the modded file, so yes, you'd either need to copy/rename again or use a cheat engine to transfer the character from one file to the other.

i'm currently having an issue with this, when i try to duplicate my sl2 file and rename it to co2 while already having another co2 file, it forces me to either replace the other co2 file or it renames it to ER000 (2).co2 which then doesn't load up my character in seamless coop. it just wont let me have 2 co2 files with the same name so i dont really know what to do

Yeah. You can't do it that way. If you want to use characters from your vanilla and a previous co-op save file, you'll need to use a save editor to combine them into one CO2 file.

Only if you delete the older CO2 file. You won't be able to play that older character though. Unless you use a save editor to merge the save files into one.

I know this has already been stated in the comments but I'll say it anyway because I only realised it recently. So, vanilla Elden ring uses the save file ER0000.SL2, while the mod uses ER0000.co2. Meaning, that these files are totally separate. Think of them as two different games. What progress you make on the mod using .co2 won't carry over to the Elden ring vanilla version using .sl2. This is because the mod gives you new items, so if you were to change your co2 file BACK to sl2 then the vanilla game would see these as "illegal" items and ban your maidenless ass. So what I've seen suggested is that if you want to play vanilla again, then you'll be better off using a simple save editor tool, which is on nexus. What you essentially do is just upload your save (co2) to the editor, then find the seamless coop items in your inventory and then delete them, then hit save. Then you can change the co2 file back to sl2 and play vanilla like normal (you might be able to change the co2 back to sl2 in the save editor, if so, do this instead). So when you load up the game again, you need to keep playing the modded version because the co2 file is the one you've made progress on as this progress will not carry over to your sl2 file. I'm basically staying on the modded version from here on out to be honest, as the only option that's been handed to me. But if your mates got the game and wanted to coop with you (if they didn't want the mod) then this is what you'd need to do. To be honest it's piss easy, I've used tools like this a lot for other games, it's just an inconvenience really. I got banned from unknown reasons, I'm still not sure what the hell happened, but my steamdeck crashes often, I've seen that can cause a ban? I'm not sure, either way Fromsoft have no intention of helping me out with this, it's left a bitter taste in my mouth about this great game and I'm disappointed this happened. Please correct me if I have given false info, this is from my understanding.

Did you get it working on the steam deck? If so then I think you'd need to manually transfer the CO2 file. I don't think steam syncs it.

So you can make a copy of the SL2 file and just rename the copy. Just make sure that the copy is named exactly the same thing EXCEPT for the CO2 extension. Then you'll have the save characters on Vanilla as on seamless, but they will progress independently.

Howdy! Have you tried this with a mule character save from nexus? This works perfectly with my original save but if I try to use a mule it fails to load. (I want to use a mule so I can play as my friends maiden and play a support role. Without dragging him around getting all the spells I need!)

yeah, have you used a save game importer to load the mule save from their save file to one that has your Steam ID in it? I don't knoiw if that makes sense, but the downloaded save files can't just be plopped in and used.

@@The-Backlog Haha, thank you for the reply! I've just figured it out. I used a "Save Copier" I found online. But it only copies to other .sl2 files! So I had to make a copy of my original save instruct the tool to edit THAT save. THEN I renamed the copy save to a .co2 and placed it in the Elden Ring Folder! I hope this helps anyone else wanting to do this!

You can do it in co-op. Varre only requires that you invade... something... so as of patch 1.06 you can face off against Magus the beast claw to do them in the co-op mod. OR if you really want to to can use a cheat engine to remove the multiplayer items from your save, then rename the co-op save sl2 and finish it that way.

I'm sorry, I haven't plunged into that mod enough to know how to transfer from one the the other. The Convergence mod description says NOT to try that as it will cause bugs, so I'm guessing that's not a great option.

Oh that's fine Just make a copy of the SL2 file and change the "SL2" part to "CO2", so the 2 files will be exact copies except one will have a CO2 extension. LEt me know if that works for you and/or if you runn into any other questions/problems.

@@The-Backlog Thanks for the reply, but I finally figured it out. For some reason, the Steam Deck makes a whole entirely different location for the co2 files. For anyone with the same problem, once you get to the compatdata file, don't try looking in the 1245620 file, the file you'll want will be a random number in the compatdata file. Sorry for not being more specific. The file I needed was the last one on the list, if that helps.

Hi I download the elden ring crack (yeah I know crack is wrong but game price is 500TL which equals to 1/8 of minimum wage in my country) and I played about 120 hours in offline mode. Moreover, when I downloaded the seamless coop mod I couldn't find my save, so I changed the file extension to co2 from sl2 just like you. However, when I do that game says failed to load save file and don't open. What should I do? I dont want to start a new save...

LOL! Your English is better than my French! Anyway, no, the co-op mod adds modded items to the save file. You'd need to use a save editor to remove the modded items and add it to a vanilla save file. Otherwise you'd get banned.

The CO2 file is the mod's saves, the SL2 file is the vanilla saves. So copy the SL2 file to transfer them to playing on the mod.

At the beginning I'm in the save file location. It is (Annoyingly) different for every person, but if you look at the very top of the video you'll see the file path. OK, check to make sure there are not any other files with that same file extension. ...and if you don't see a .co2 or .sl2 or .something on all of the files in that directory you'll need to enable viewing file extensions. (That's pretty common.) Make sure there's only one .co2 file in there, and it should boot them.

You should have no problem doing that. Just copy the CO 2 file that contains the save you want to the computer you want. But Make sure to remove/rename any other CO2 files in the target pc first.

If you have saves that you don't care about, you'll need to deleate those CO2 files before renaming the SL2 copies as CO2 files. If you DO care about the saves in the OLD CO2 files, you'll have to rename them or use a save transfer utility to copy the saves on the SL2 file to the existing CO2 file.

@@z4nzil277 what do you mean "between save folders"? There is only one location where Elden ring looks for save files? The one that I showed in the video. I'd suggest you go back and re-watch the video and when you get to your save folder, ensure that there is only the vanilla save file and then copy that save file and rename it EXACTLY the same thing as the vanilla file but with a CO2 extension. it must be exactly the same name but instead of the .sl2 it should be co2. if you need more help we can chat in our discord.

i’m very stupid I did this and accidentally deleted all my saves. I made a backup but i then realized I didn’t wanna move all my characters to co-op so I deleted the one i changed and just used the backup. The backup looks like it has all my saves but when i load into them it was a starting character named “_” I kept trying to mess with the files cause i didn’t understand why the backup wasn’t activating but i gave up after me messing with it was making more and more saves disappear so i just restarted them all. I have no clue what I did wrong but I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else

You just need to make a copy of your SL2 file and rename it to a CO2 file. If you already have a CO2 file, you've already run the modded game and will need to remove that pre-existing CO2 file before copying your SL2 file and renaming it.

Hello, video was helpful but it did not fully fix my issue. I previously played on seamless coop on my old computer with my friend. I now switched to a new computer. I transfered my entire Elden Ring folder to my new PC. I cannot find my old seamless coop save. When I check the files, I already have a .co2 files and a .co2.bak file. I was able to get my vanilla saves on seamless coop but not my original seamless coop save from my old PC. Thank you!

the mod saves it's save "Slots" in the CO2 save "File" so if you want to have access in the mod to your previous mod "Save" AND your vanilla "Save" you'll need to get a save editor from nexus and merge the "Save slots" from all those CO2 and SL2 files into one SL2 file, then rename it into a CO2 file... then remove ore rename all the other CO2 files.

Before I was using the 1.02 version cracked with plaza, then i reistalled the game again with the latest version that requires steam open and it works, it just bothers me to redo all things. The progress doesn't transfer, no. You CAN get it to transfer but you have to use a cheat engine to strip out the added co-op items, or you'll get banned.

the SL2 file is the save file for Elden Ring. The CO2 file is the save file for the co-op mod. and the .bak files are the backups that ER creates for both of them.
