#automotive #lathe not many know | how to remove a broken bolt in a hidden hole (carburetor) how to effectively open the carburetor bolt without damaging the bolt threads
The way he ground down the tap was making an easy out. I have done that long ago, taking a hard bolt and grinding it down with four angled flutes. Then hammer ut into a broken sp plug and then that always worked to get the threaded part of the sp plug out. This was long ago when some current tools were not available. I think this guy has limited resources and did rather well with what he had. None of us are perfect ever. He hot it done, thats good enough.
Thanks for your post, however for your next similar projects invest in a vice jaw protector, better hammer and a Tap Wrench, (it will give you a better balance in the extraction). Also Left hand flute Twist drills are available. They have a better effect in such work. A normal Twist drill puts additional force on damaged screw and makes it more tight. While a Left hand Twist drill helps to unscrew the damaged screw due to the Reverse direction, vibration as well as heat. Again Ezy- Out is the best Tool in place of the Improvised Tap that was used at the end. Thanks.
Impacts and carburetors don't mix, the casting breaks easily. This guy is pretty good, he doesn't let anything scare him. I would have done it in a mill, my Bridgeport lets me get any hole dead nuts center and to the exact depth I want. But, this guy can clearly get just about anything done...
Exactly and add to it a proper Tap Wrench, it will give you a better balance in the extraction. Also Left hand flute Twist drills are available. They have a better effect in such work.
