Watch as I transport myself back to the 80's with a good old fashioned Perm. Brought back soooo many memories. FYI this is how I used to have my hair when I was a teenager!
Oh this takes me back! The hours I spent blow drying my fringe up into a ski slope shape for school! It was rock hard and lasted all day. Many, many cans of Insette were purchased lol! Fab channel - love it!
Oh yes hair concrete lol. I never did it, but the girls at school did, quiffs with a curly style or a pony tail with a quiff, late 80s to early 90s. So much Shock Waves hairspray and gel!
Very helpful tutorial! I was actually going to use those same curlers - I have them in my bathroom whenever I get the chance to use them haha - so glad you made this, thanks!
Wow, I need to try this. I'd love a perm but it's a lot to commit to and I'm too lazy to put that much effort in every day. This looks like even I could manage it. Thanks for the inspiration 🖤
Thanks for this. I'm going to an 80s party and wanted the perm look without doing an actual perm cause I heard real perms can damage the hair. Wish me luck. BTW u rock the look🎉.
I used to have those bendy rollers that were spongy with a wire inside, that were supposedly better to sleep in, I think you could get a similar effect with those, if the curlers were a bit too hard for your head. I remember at school the girls would use mousse and rock hard hairspray to get a quiff with the curls, I never did as I thought it looked like hair concrete lol. Looks great yours, the vivid red hair suits the curls.
The bendy rollers fall out of my hair as its so fine. Its also difficult to get that really tight curl with them :) We used soooo much mousse and hairspray (extra firm) our hair didn't move an inch lol
Wow! Love the commitment! I couldn't go through all that every day again. I used so much hair spray I had to wash my hair every morning before school because if I didn't my hair stayed in what ever position I had laid my head in the night before LOL
@@80sobsessed48 Ahaha yeah It is alot of maintenance. My hair is naturally straight so I tend to normally just tease my bangs like the late 80s Kelly Kapowski look, but when I get time I put my hair in rollers but its too much effort for everyday ahaha 💖
@@leahfalzon92 Nice! If I had a fringe (bangs) I'd be able to pull that look off and put it in a video :D My hair is super straight too so trying to get it to hold curls is a nightmare, I'd love to see a picture of your look :) x
@@80sobsessed48 are you from the UK? I am I just use the word bangs alot now as I have friends who are american who also dress 80s 😂. My instagram is leah_80sgirl and I have loads of pictures there and a few with my big curly hair! My hair can actually hold curls quite well despite it being long. I just don't want to get a perm and ruin my hair 😂💕
@@leahfalzon92 lol I've considered getting a perm myself but its a lot of work as we both know. Yes I am in the UK. I don't really use Insta but I'll try and check out your page :) x
Thats very kind but I don't think I have the time or patience to tackle a perm every morning now. When my hair was permed back in the 80's I used to have to wash it every morning because of the amount of product that was in it and then style it again before school, took me at least a couple of hours to get ready every morning. I love my sleep too much to put that much effort in now lol!
thanks :D i'm trying to make last minute costume (genderbend knight rider :D ) so i'm trying to figure out what to do with my hair :D ... i think this will be step in the right direction :D
I'm young and not a real 80s girl but I'm obsessed with the fashion, can anybody tell me exactly what kind of rollers those are? I've never seen them in my life lol
Hi! I used perming rollers. If you pop into your local Professional Hair and Beauty suppliers - for example 'Sallys' - you should be able to purchase what you need. Hope this helps :) x
Don't worry I have the New Romantics on my list! Funny you should mention Spandau, I met Martin Kemp the other weekend (video to follow shortly... ;) )
I was frantically looking for a Dead or Alive poster in the background but whatever I guess lol. You deserve more subs. EDIT: For your Pete Burns costume how did you get rid of the split in the wig and make the part of the hair stand up? I'm getting the stuff I need for that costume this Saturday 😁
Still working on the posters, trying to have originals rather than printing them out. I'm sure Pete will turn up behind me at some point lol Ok, so the wig, it wasn't easy. Firstly the wig comes with a fringe which I cut off, then it was just a case of pulling the hair apart and back combing like mad. Just time and patience my friend. Let me know how you get on, I'd love to see a picture of your finished outfit :D If I can help anymore just give me a shout x
