Knowing good fakie stance was a game-changer for me. In this video, I break down fakie stance, fakie stalls, and fakie air out. I do go over fakie stalls in my how-to stall tutorial, but I also wanted to break down good fakie stance and fakie air out as it's all connected. Please note that this video is based on my personal skating experience and may be different from other tutorials.

Getting your ass over the deck is SO crucial to fakie stalls. Also the chest up thing is something I didn’t even think of. You’re an amazing teacher

Thank you for the kind words. I skate solo too as roller skating isn't popular in South Korea. I used to love coaching roller derby so I find doing these videos a great way to connect with other skaters.

Why did I wait so long to watch this. I've been drilling my fakie stalls for almost two months. And I still struggle locking onto the coping. Now that I've watched this, I think it's almost definitely my fakie stance that needs improvement. I can't wait to take this new info into the park.

I keep watching this video. By the end of the video, I feel like I can conquer fakie stalls. And then the minute I'm in the park and my back wheels are about to touch the coping, all of that confidence fizzles. Getting closer each time, though. Thank you so much for your tutorials!!

Thank You so much! I love your tutorials! I’ve been trying this trick for a while now and have been having trouble. I hope the things you showed in this video will help me. The one question that I have is it easier on a transition that’s a little steeper? I’ve only been trying it in the baby bowls at the park…
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 2 года назад
On a smaller ramp is easier as you won't have to pump as much. The bigger the ramp the more you will need to pump fakie to get the momentum.
@elizabeth.shaffer
@elizabeth.shaffer 11 месяцев назад
This might sound weird, but I wasn't landing solid fakie stalls until I STOPPED looking at the coping. I found that when I hit the transition, it worked better to pick a spot on the curve of the transition itself next to me and not watch my feet or the coping at all. I have no idea why that works, but when I was trying to watch what I did my body would always try to bail at the last second either with a half cab stall or by sitting down.
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 10 месяцев назад
That's interesting to know. There are quite a few skaters who don't look at the coping and I think they are magical 😂
@zorinaseva

Shorty, thanks for the tutorial. My biggest issue is losing balance when my back wheels roll over anything - even coping. Do you have any tips for this?
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 2 года назад
Getting low and thinking about pushing your hips backwards and weight into your heels when on the coping can help. If you have footage you can DM me on IG: @shortstop.6 and I can have a look.

Where do you get a good pair of aggressive quads? Thanks for the tutorial, Ive been stuck on front stall to fake on aggressive inline for yeaarrss but tbh I think I just wasnt approaching it methodically perhaps learning fakie to back stall will unlock it
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 2 года назад
There are different style of aggressive quads. I use Bont Parkstars which are a supportive boot but no where as supportive or high cuff as a blading boot. If you do buy Bonts and depending on the size, I recommend ordering the next size up plate so you have a longer base. It will give you a longer base like a blading boot. bont.com/collections/park-roller-skates I also have a code SHORTY which you can use at checkout and receive 10% off, excluding gift card, shipping, and outlet.

Do you have any tips for when the ramp you are skating has a coping that comes out super far? It’s old and janky but it’s what I’m working with. I’ve had my wheels hit the coping and then I just bounce off a few times to the point where I’m really apprehensive to attempt a fakie stall.
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 2 года назад
If the coping sticks out far, you're going to have to really lift your toes (when stalling forwards) and your knees (when stalling backwards).
@thatanxiousone6792
@thatanxiousone6792 2 года назад
@@ShortysSkateSeries oo this is interesting. I always think of lifting my heels and that just results in my front foot airing above the coping instead of touch it. I will try to think of it more like lifting the knees and see what happens 🤔

I've been practicing fakie stalls for a small while, and while i manage to 'lock' onto the coping for a short time, i can't seem to get enough momentum on some ramps to stall fully, neither front nor fakie. Do you have any tips? So far I've just been trying to practice pumping to solve this problem :/
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 2 года назад
Hmm. It does seem like you need more momentum. Are you able to drop in on the ramp you are practicing? You might need to drop in to stall and pump to fakie. You should also try to film yourself or get someone to do it as I found some skaters will unintentionally use their toe stop and not realise. This will slow your momentum.
@elysiangenesis
@elysiangenesis 2 года назад
I have a big fear of missing the coping entirely and sliding out on my back wheels and potentially hitting my head on the coping. Is there a high chance of this happening or am I just crazy?
@ShortysSkateSeries
@ShortysSkateSeries 2 года назад
There is always a risk of falling. That's why I recommend wearing protective, including a helmet when learning new tricks. The most common bail is when skaters tip their weight too far forward as they reach the coping so they have tap their feet but not stall. If they fall from this position then they fall forward on wrist guards and knee pads. Less common but can happen is if skaters forget to lift their heels a little and their wheels run into the coping instead of over the coping, you can either fall forward like above or slip out on your butt, which I think is what you are worried about and hitting you head. Check out this video at 3:12 as I catch my wheels. It's not the same trick but the fall is similar. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1vd95qaAses.html If you aren't prepared you could hit your head if you lead back so maybe practicing sliding out and falling on your butt and might help you get more comfortable with falling.
