Actually I learned that if you think of a memory instead of imagining something usually helps a lot more. You're using a different part of the brain when you're remembering a core memory rather than spending energy of creating new things. It definitely makes me fall asleep much faster

I’ve been struggling with insomnia the past few weeks. My husband, who can be rather pushy, had me look up military techniques to falling asleep. I tried it last night and wah-lah! I slept through the night, with only one kitty-provoked wake up. But… I fell back to sleep. I got 8 hours total!

Last night I woke up a few times. Normally, I would turn the bedside light on and read or surf/scroll. But each time I felt myself waking up, I made a conscious effort to say in my mind… “Don’t think” and I fell back asleep by the 3rd or 4th time. It works.

I’ve been practicing this technique for well over 30 + years, even to this day, now that I’ve retired from the Military. It has helped tremendously in those times of war, but as I transferred back into civilian life. There are many stresses in life that are not associated with the high stresses, and demands of military life. But there are associations of stress that build up, even in civilian settings. This is a very good technique 😇🙏👍

You are the first veteran I've heard use this technique. All the others say they never heard tale of it in their entire lives, and the only "fall asleep fast anywhere" technique the military uses is keeping their entire workforce in a constant state of sleep deprivation. Seems like a terrible way to do things but I think the only people who think the military would certainly not do anything ever in a terrible way are lifelong civilians. I feel like the special ops community though must have some good sleeping techniques, since they don't live the same day-to-day lifestyle and yet manage to sleep on their flights to their assignments.

If you loose your count you have to start over from 250 again. It clears your mind becsuse you can not think of anything distracting. Works every time. I rarely manage to get passed 170-180 before falling asleep.

As a gunner in a tank, I learned this method in the army. It is called *Progressive muscle relaxation according to Edmund Jacobson (PMR)* Every minute that a soldier has nothing to do he should rest, you never know when you will get to sleep next. And the body also gets used to these power naps and is as well rested as possible. My wife always wonders how I can fall asleep so quickly, but anyone who has slept in the turret of a moving tank with the steel helmet banging to all sides will no longer have trouble falling asleep in regular circumstances. This exercise also helps later with PTSD, which unfortunately affects many soldiers. Depression, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, etc. Just give it a try.

@TheAxe4Ever
@TheAxe4Ever Год назад
@@IndipenderIt is only released intramuscularly when the muscles are worked to failure. Like the burning and shaking sensation you feel after lifting heavy weights with repetition. A slight, brief contraction of the muscles will not release adenosine. But upon relaxing the muscles after that slight, brief contraction can help you really feel and actually assist in the complete relaxation of each muscle and result in an almost totally relaxed and euphoric sensation. Deep breathing, especially on the exhale when relaxing each muscle group is the key.
@Indipender
@Indipender Год назад

For those who think this is to much work : My tip is to turn on an audio clip with speech only. Be sure the clip is around 30 - 60 mins. You don’t have to do anything, you re just listening to an audioclip. What works best ? Space stuff. Try channels like Event Horizon or Cool Worlds. Make the volume so low you can hear it, but barely. Place the phone or device on which it’s playing next to your bed. On RU-vid, be sure you don’t have commercials. Turn autoplay off . Worked for me. Close your eyes and listen to it. Don’t panic if it doesn’t work within a few minutes. Good luck, hope it helps some people here.

It works even better if you flex and hold the muscles for a few seconds and *then* relax them - if you’re already tense from stress it’s not so easy to just relax your body because you can’t feel the tension unless you use each muscle group. Also, this exercise in itself empties the mind and I’d usually be asleep before finishing. I'm listening. Sometimes, when lying on bed, I tense my entire body up, holding for 20 seconds, and then release, and breathe in slow, exhale slow, sometimes this helps. Sometimes I visualize a candle, with a flame, and any thoughts that arise flickers the flame, so I focus on the flame being still. And Sometimes, I'm able to entirely control my mind, from any intrusive thoughts, and fall asleep shortly after, but this doesn't work all the time - certain movies, states, life, hardships, internet, life, and life again, makes it difficult.

Thanks for this video. Some other things I've tried: 1) Listen to sleep guided meditation/sleep stories/easy audiobooks 2) Focus on breathing slowly: controlling my breath actually helped me control my thoughts 3) If you have a tendency to think of scenarios, use that to your advantage: create some relaxing mental scenes and replay them 4) Cut down sugar and don't consume chocolate/caffeine after 5pm 5) If you have a sedentary lifestyle, tire your body out a bit through exercise 6) Drink chamomile or other calming herbal fusions (not right before bed though as they can be diuretic) 7) A warm shower before sleep and cool room temperature helps.

The best technique Ive ever heard and which mimics the bodys natural falling sleep action that releases the chemical reaction which transfers you from awake to asleep, is this: Very slowly, over 5-6 seconds close your eyes almost entirely, then again very slowly over 5-6 seconds open your eyes a tiny slit, then repeat. Its a subtle amount of slow movement. Typically you cant make it beyond 10 repetitions as it releases a heap of the chemical melatonin and you fall asleep without fail.

A huge part to the breathing thing, is you went to breathe in for 3 seconds and out for 6/7. Constantly blowing out for that time. You want it to be just hard enough that you need to focus on your breathe control. But not so hard you’re straining after 10 reps. It’ll get easier after the first few. You can always change the times. For others having a hard time ~ this is super corny / cliche / embarrassing. But actively telling yourself “it’s okay to sleep, everything will be fine.” Can help. Run through what’s stressing you, like if you have kids “I’ll hear them, even if I’m asleep. It’s okay.”

I have trouble with sleep, and one thing that I find crazy is that sometimes when I fall asleep fast my mind isn't clear at all. I'll be thinking about something, then I realize that my eyes are closed and I'm mostly asleep, then I wake up. It's as though the thought "distracts" my mind from being awake, and the realization of that reminds my mind to be awake. Also, sometimes when this happens my thoughts morph into dreams before I realize that I'm falling asleep.

This is basically an old yoga technique. Years ago I had an accidental out of body (OBE) experience with this. I didn’t know what I was going through when it happened. Both eyes closed, in complete darkness I suddenly found myself floating in mid air towards the ceiling! And I could see very well even though I could feel my eyelids closed! I kept going up, moving ahead of the bed and once near the ceiling I was afraid I would hurt myself if the phenomenon stopped because I would have fallen on a hard wood floor! I quickly figured out how I got up there: curiosity. Some reversed the process. I told myself: I want to go back in bed, repeatedly. And it worked. A few days later, after talking with friends I realized I had experienced an OBE.

Only two techniques have ever worked for me and I have severe problems getting to sleep. 1) Breath in, count, breath out, count. Can usually clear my mind and put me out. Breath in, 1, breath out, 2, breath in, 3, out 4. You get the idea. 2) This one works amazing for me once I did it a few times. I relax and close my eyes, in my mind I walk around a place I know, a place I love or have fond memories of, I try to remember all of the little details about everything I see. For me it's my old Jiu-Jitsu academy, I walk through the courtyard, I try to remember all of the details, they I walk inside and try to remember all of it. It usually doesn't take long and I'm out.

I have been doing this for a long time, not to go to sleep but ready my mind and body. Before every gig or anything a relaxed state will help. I have always started at my feet and worked my way up to my head. It is self-hypnosis and a state of mind that controls your body as well as your mind. The more you use it the better you become at getting into that state of mind.

Back in the '80s my music teacher from elementary school taught her students a very similar technique. Her technique revolved around stretching and started with stretching those toes, feet & ankles slowly working your way up to the calves and thighs up and into the hip then stomach area up the chest so on and so on. Ever so slowly all while breathing and relaxing. Taking your time on each part of your body. It absolutely works.

I had to go to a very specialized sleep specialist for a sleep disorder that I have. I was told to think of looking at a black chalkboard, and to focus on my breathing. This is basically a Body Scan and a part of a meditation technique. I meditate every day, and a body scan is included in my 7 Phase meditation, but the first thing I do is 11 deep breaths, inhaling through the nose, holding it and making sure my stomach is blown out fully, then exhaling through the mouth until my tummy is flattened like a pancake. After 11 of these, I am much more relaxed. I'd recommend that first, then go for the body scan, afterwards. Cheers.
