Ever wonder what those numbers on the front of a fertilizer bag mean? Look no more. I will teach exactly what Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium do to the lawn and how much to use. In Sun City Center do you make house calls? My HOA has let our grass get overgrown with Bermuda the lawn care service cuts it at 3in .Now they are going to raise our dues and telling us we're going to have to resod on her own dime, help!!!

First thing you should do is test your soil prior to any application, that way you know which npk you need to use because too much of any of those and you are in trouble so if you deside not to test your soil, you need get something that is level across the board like 14/14/14 or 5/5/5 just an example.

You can't test Nitergeon levels in soil unfortunately.

@@jaimepadilla9548 thank you so much. I will actually have a video on how to run an aerater soon. You can go up to 5 passes in St.augustine grass. I recommend 2 to 3 for most lawns. Each pass should be in a different direction to maximize coverage.

@Fritz J for your spring application anywhere from 0.75 to 1.25 pounds per 1,000 of N You be looking at 4 to 7 pounds of fertilizer per 1,000.

My st augustine is dormant.. some areas are green but mostly yellow brown. Its been mowed weekly and watered weekly. We are getting close to spring.. should I thatch, aerate then fertilize? Im new at this.

Check out some other videos on the channel. I go into detail about spring treatments. You cannot thatch St.augustine grass. Aeration and fertilization will be great, though. You will want to wait until march/april before doing all that. Check out my spring fertilization videos for more details!!

Thanks for the comment!!! Really neither way is technically wrong. I wouldn't say phosphorous for down because you don't want to use a lot of it. If you are going for root growth and needed to apply a lot of fertilizer potassium would be the best route. Potassium does more then just help the root system so saying all around for potassium is accurate as well. But for shrubs phosphorous is what will make the bloom. You would not want to add phosphorous to a shrub for root growth because it will use its energy to bloom. That's why potassium would be the best for down (roots). Phosphorous would be better for side growth and blooms. I hope this answers your question!! Thank you for the support.

I would recommend getting the fertilizer coded seed then doing nothing tell it germinates. Once germinated a 10 10 10 would be great. Thanks for the comment and support 👍
