So ive been soaking some driftwood I found for a few weeks, TODAY I went out to check on it & there were things swimming in the water, not mosquitoes as I had a lid on the container. These things are creepy I've never seen anything like it. They are white worm like bodied creatures about an inch long with 2 inch long thin tails. I actually put them into a jar of water to watch and see how they evolve. So..for me I think I'll be boiling my wood or pouring boiling water into the container. I definitely would not want what I found in the water swimming with any of my pets.

I found this awesome piece of Driftwood and can't wait to setup my turtle tank.

where i live in new zealand our hardwood have tanins, red dye that leeches out of the wood, most of it has to be soaked for weeks! looks like u guys don;t have that issue though. im soaking some wood for the 3rd week now! hopefully will put it in the tank this week. love ur videos!

I thought the main purpose of baking / boiling / bleach dips, etc, were mostly for the bacteria and potential parasites? Do you have to be worried about parasites hitching rides on them? Or any unwanted bugs in general, I suppose. The bacteria and tannins I'm good with, I'm just unsure if I should worry about any bugs. I plan on going driftwood hunting near a lake soon

I have 2 driftwoods that i dont use it, cause the color of the water looks dirty. The water of My 2 tanks 65g and 10g are clean and clear. I can give another try again to boil them. I will come back to you if that works.

The tannins won't harm the turtles right? Just picked up a big chunk of driftwood beside the road and it started to release tannins

Drift wood is not only hardwood, its any wood that is stripped and weathered from exessive water exposure

Awome piece of wood dan. but i do see a lot of ways they can escape and fall out or where they can get stuck. Also they lose alot of swimming space now. I personally thinkt this is to full of wood and too dangerous. Just wanted to warn you because i have lost a turtle once because it got stuck under wood and drowned.🥲 and that corner where the big wood ramp ends just look likes troubles. Its just well meant.🐢❤️
