I almost died this March from a medical emergency. I've been so grateful since then and I've been realizing that my life is amazing as it is. I've been meditating regularly, going out into nature, reading way more (after quitting social media, for good this time) and I love my life as a mom and as a teacher. To me the meaning of life is being present, in awe, kind and grateful.🌹And this can be the case when admiring nature or art, or when creating things yourself.p.s. love headspace!

As a side note I know youtube is technically social media, it's just a little different because you don't need an account to go on it so you cannot really "quit". And I still see value in some content I see on yt. And I stay far away from shorts.

I need to ask, did you have a near death experience, forcing you to change your perspective on everything around you and within you? I've heard so many people who've said they've almost died and/or have and been brought back to life and they all say similar things. pardon me if I sound intrusive but I am curious.

Men are always more optimistic about having children because they’re not the ones who are having them. I have 3 children, and even now I feel like apologizing to them for bringing them into this world. Whereas my husband is like “let’s have another one!” He seriously thinks we should have more children. Having kids is the most serious life changing thing you’ll ever do. Everything about you and your entire world you’ve created will change. There are 2 things to keep in mind I think is perfect for couples who are thinking about having children.. 1. If you don’t love life, don’t have children. 2. Instead of telling yourself “i want to have a baby”, say “I want to raise a human” Like I said, I have 3 kids, a 15 yr old, 12 yr old, and a 2.5 yr old. I don’t have a village, I don’t have family where I am, no support… it’s a lonely lonely existence for me. And speaking as a woman, the pregnancy, postpartum, nursing, depression which I’m prone to, it’ll all come crash down if you’re not fully prepared and have the support of your family and close friends. Best of luck to you. ❤

Hey A, thanks so much for sharing all this. I can understand how having children can feel intense and even lonely, especially if you don't have a support system in place. If we were to have kids here, Robin's mum would be our only family considering all of mine is all in Canada - the thought already feels a bit overwhelming, so I can only imagine your situation. Your advice about loving life and focusing on raising a human being rather than just having a baby is valuable - I'll definitely be keeping that in mind 🙏 sending loads of love to you and the kiddos.

On this topic, I would also like to share my thoughts if I may. I have just one child with no direct family where we live. Grandparents help when they are able to come visit. I admit that every thing you described even with one child is true. But I when I read comments online from exhausted moms(like me) who warn women who don't have kids yet, to think very carefully.. I agree with that to some extent. Yes, I also think people should not have children for the sake of biological urge and subconscious need to procreate. We are far more socially complicated creates and we need to consider a lot of aspects of our lives. I would go further to say that there are soooo many people with their own unfixed childhood dramas, that unconsciously we are collectively raising people with traumas, prone to anxiety, depression or even danger to society. Having said all that, what bothers me is that having a child for the mother is completely indescribable FEELING. no amount of thinking about it, preparing or contemplating what it will be like, how it will affect you can be even remotely predicted. Our bodies and hormones change entirely in way that cannot be copied. It is always different of every woman and for every child. This is why every pregnancy is different even for the same woman. And nobody can tell you how you would feel, how you would change, etc. This is paragraph 22 for me. In order to be responsible parent/person one must really think if they are ready to have kids, but one cannot tell even 50% what it would be like and how they will change unless they have a child. So... Bottom line is - we may think about, we may think we are absolutely prepared and yet this might be the most further from the truth. And it goes both ways. Someone who thinks want kids, when they actually have them, it might turn out to be their biggest regret. Or someone who is absolutely they do not want to children, if or when they do, they think it is the best thing they did in they lives. But nobody will ever know before hand. For me personally I regret I did not have my first one sooner. Now at 35 I don't know if I have the physical strength to have one more. But if I was younger, I would have one more definitely. Whatever hardships I may had, everything disappears when my 4 yo baby girl takes my face in her hands , looks me in the eyes tells me I love you mammy. Children love is the purest.
@AliPi7
@AliPi7 Год назад
@@mindshiftershub. I agree with you 100%. Everything you said is spot on. My biggest issue is, I have no village where I am. All my family is in Europe. My husbands family is here but they all work, they all have their own lives. I grew up in Europe, in a small remote village where village is an actual village. Living in the states is so isolating and depressing. I don’t regret having my children, I just feel like I’ve failed them miserably because they don’t have the village I know to be a beautiful thing. I grew up with a village and I miss the closeness and everyone looking out for everyone. I think as parents we just want to give our children everything we as primal beings know we need: we need to be surrounded by family, other women of our tribes, and we need to feel protection. I don’t feel any protection in this world. It’s becoming increasingly more and more risky to bring children into a fast changing world. Our close knit ties to our families and tribe is what kept us feeling protected. We don’t have that anymore. Also, I completely understand where you are coming from in terms of age. I had my first at 23, then second at 26, and boom third one at 36. There is a huge difference in having them in 20s v 30s physically. Emotionally and mentally I think I’m a better mom now than when I was in my 20s. There are trade offs. I want to add that there is nothing more beautiful than motherhood. Nothing and I mean NOTHING will ever replicate the sheer pure love I felt each time I gave birth. There is no love like it. Nothing can take it’s place. I would give birth a 100 times more if I could just to feel that love again. But like everything good, it comes with its struggles of course. So here we are. It’s not easy when things do align. And it’s devastating for the woman going through hormonal changes and depression when she doesn’t have that much needed support. I would tell every woman to think deep and long before deciding to have children. Consider everything, inside and out. And even then you’re not prepared for what’s to come.

@@AliPi7 I am from Europe, more accurately Eastern Europe and I absolutely get you! Here our culture for centuries was soooo ingrained in the whole family living in one house, that I don't necessarily like haha, but at least close to each other, as a small community, people helping, extended family taking care of the children... I am not that far away from our parents, mine and my husband's as you, but they are still living 100s of miles away (3-5 hour drives). So I miss that. I wish I was living in my hometown with ma parents and grandparents which miraculously are still alive, my brother and his family. When we go visit, my girl is extatic to play with her cousin... This is what he have lost along the way this fast-pacing world and I don't like it. We are losing ourselves in the isolation we impose as a society. But I want to just give you some consolation and empathy - I get you, you are not alone in how you feel and I wish for you to find a way to build the life you truly desire for you and your family ♥️

@@mindshiftershub. yes me too! Eastern Europe, more specifically Bosnia and I’ve also lived in Croatia. We had a very tight knit “tribe” so to speak. We lived in the same house with my dads parents and my grandmother basically raised us because both of our parents worked full time. I’m almost 40 and I still think so fondly of my childhood. I had the most beautiful childhood. My grandmother was my everything. I hate it now. If I had known how lonely and isolating all this would feel I wouldn’t have had children. I didn’t do them any favors and I feel like the worlds worst mother because I can’t provide them with the love of extended family and village. Thank you so so much for your kindness and caring words. I know I’m not the only one. Motherhood is so hard, and adding other factors to it like isolation and being away from family makes it unbearable.

I've struggled with the "do I want kids" question for a long time, thinking I would eventually want it, and that I would be immature if I wouldn't. Eventually, what gave me clarity was asking myself: do I want to care for a child, in spite of the trouble? Do I want to raise a human? So far, the answer is no. I'm not particularly caring or a very social person, I'd rather do my own thing. This gave me peace of mind. I'm 33 and it's only since a few months that I dare to admit to myself I've never wanted this. And the thought feels like a relief.

I searched my soul and 'interviewed' myself thoroughly about having children at the age of 29. I came to the conclusion 'no, I don't want children'. Now at 42, child-free with a partner, I thanked myself for being honest to myself and not giving in to societal/cultural expectations. Trust me, if you don't have that burning desire to be a parent and to do all the parenting stuff, don't have children. I've got friends who are mothers and they have said to me openly that if they could turn back time, they wouldn't have had their child (all of them stopped at one). Having children can be a beautiful experience, but only for those who truly want it.

My son is autistic and takes lots of things by logic, knowledge. Very often he cries and tells me that he fears of living, because he knows he will die one day and he does not see any purpose of life. And - although it is hearbreaking for me to see that he confronts this huge idea while being only 10 - there is one calming thought that I always remind him. That what is most wonderful in living and being a human is that each one of us can create our own purpose of our lives. We can decide not only what we want to do and what who we want to do, but we can look closely into ourselves, who we are as a living being - and create our own purpose. Make it. And what is even more wonderful - we can always change it. If one day we feel we want to take another road, we may. We can change our purpose as much and as often as we want to, as we need to. This knowledge makes me really powerful and grateful. I do not know what will happen after I die. But I do know that I am a creator of my live here. And none of any beings of our planet has or had this gift.

It’s great to be positive about it, but the harsh reality is that AI (while leading to brand new jobs we’ve never had before) will ultimately reduce the amount of people needed for jobs in general. Where we may have needed 50 people to do a job, we may only need 10 people in the future to do a different type of job due to AI. On a planet with an increasing population of billions, that’s going be a real problem. More competition, more poverty, less resources for the mid/low class. 🤷🏻‍♀️ guess we will see

For me, the meaning of life is to give back to the community. I believe that I was born privileged. We aren't full of resources but we have enough to be happy. We buy second-hand furnitures, almost never buy clothes or makeup, and live a decent life. So I left my oil and gas job 2 years back and started volunteering in a food bank. We grew organic vegetables and donated it to people in need. In parallel, I also made videos and wrote articles about sustainability. During this time, I also started learning more about health (and finished certifications). Presently, I give health coaching to people and in return ask them to donate to their favorite charity (which would be my fee). I do this because I truly believe that I have enough and it's time I step up and provide for the community. This keeps me happy.

After my dad died unexpectedly last year, I've been thinking a lot about what I value in life. And I believe that too often we deny ourselves our own happiness because of the expectations we think other people have of us. And that we believe we aren't good enough or brave enough to change something, when actually we should take that leap and do what we actually want to do, even if it seems scary. That might be a privilege that not everybody can afford and it is easier said than done. But we can start small, maybe by quitting a hobby we didn't like anymore anyways and instead trying something new, even if we suck at it at first. Life is about experiencing the world, ourselves and our emotions - the good AND the bad ones. The more often you dip into the uncomfortable ones, the easier it gets to see the good in life.

Dear Sadia - I realize I am little bit late to this conversation, but I had to respond. I, too, felt truly uneasy initially about having kids in this world. But the more my husband and I discussed it, there were a few major factors that changed my mind, and I’ll be forever grateful. Not having kids (if you want them) would be the ultimate sacrifice. It would mean that not only are many aspects of the world dark and potentially bleak, but also, your own little world, on a micro scale. Because there’s a new little world that is created when you start a family… and it is filled with such joy and such profound meaning, especially to the tune of: being in the present, being creative, being nurturing, AND filled with growth/contribution- which, according to Tony R., are huge human needs for feeling fulfilled. Furthermore, if we, the conscious and kind people of the world STOP having kids, who will inherit the earth? Who will fight for its protection? We conscious people will raise caring and principled children who will grow up to fight the good fight. Yes, it’s a true act of optimism, and one of the most important areas for it. Of course, being a parent isn’t easy… but hard isn’t always bad, is it? Thank you for this profound video. ❤Sending you and Robin so much love.

This totally resonates with my current approach to life. I have time & again tried to live in the present but failed. Over the years; I somehow reached a natural state of balance and my brain automatically adjusted to the natural rhythm. It all came down to perception and my shift in perspective was the catalyst for this growth. I definitely feel lot less anxious.

Thank you for sharing this video! I was actually thinking about this topic the other day, especially about whether or not to have kids. I have a lot of fears based on everything going on in the world and often wonder if it would be better not to bring any more life into an already chaotic world. However, this video opened my eyes and made me realize that I don't always have to dwell on the negatives that our planet is facing. There are many positive solutions that are emerging as well. I also really loved your approach to nurturing life. Even small acts of kindness toward our planet and all the life in it can make a big difference 🤎

Sadia you are one of the most talented thinkers and sharers on YT. Thank you for this video. I’ve had the same thoughts and discussions with my husband too. Do no harm and live in the moment are two things I always return to. And meditation. Now, more than ever we need to meditate. For me, the meaning of life is to always find the lesson in every experience and, above all, to love.

I do appreciate you because of all the pleasurable energy you give us. your positive attitude towards life, towards us, towards everything is really adorable and motivational for us. Life is the present moment and we need to accept it, love it, and LIVE it completely. The only people who enjoy the life and the earth and this world, are the ones who live the moment, not past or future! ❤❤❤

This is so timely- I’m about halfway through the book “Alone with Others” by Stephen Batchelor, an Existential Approach to Buddhism. He talks about why we seek to answer questions like “what is the meaning of life” through the lens of Buddhism. I love how he explains that we are ultimately all alone in our journey from life to death as it is our unique experience and responsibility. However, we are all on that journey- so we are all alone together, trying to make sense of something so ontological. And we can either seek material things and experiences to fill that anxiety that comes with knowing you will die one day, or you can look to the longer lasting benefits that come from meditation and self-discovery. Amazing subject!!! So much to think about!!!

I do know he fulfilled his purpose here on Earth and know we all have the same responsibility - to love, mentor/nurture, teach, add value, inspire & spark creativity in others as you do so well, of course just to name a few ❤ So thank you for sharing your perspective on this as the timing couldn’t be more perfect for me anyway 🤗

Dear sister I am from Nepal, I am continuously following your video's. Few days back I am thinking about life in same way as you describe in video. Two main value of my life is honesty and Kindness. Kindness just not toward other but toward our body, mind and soul. In other to uplift others we have to uplift ourselves first. We need to be kind toward our mother earth and other creature as well🙂💙

I think it's about giving meaning to this life. For me it's giving hope to people. As a psychologist and therapist, I try to do that with exploring, creating and providing a safe space; with my coworking company for changemakers, I try to give people who work towards a better future such as climate change a place where they belong, can connect and get as much relevant info as they could, as a mom I give hope by trying to show my son that we can be the change, even if it's just a very small one such as giving a smile to someone who's having a hard time. When I rent out my cabin in the woods, I leave little cute quotes on restored wood everywhere, cards with deeper questions, old books with great meaning,.. to make people feel warm inside and believe this world can be a warm embrace. Thank you so much for this video. I always enjoy being surrounded by people like you and this community :)

The true meaning of life will remain a mystery but everyone has their own interpretation of life! The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is NEVER to give up on life! Life is a gift given to us and if we reject it, we won’t be blessed anymore. Each of us has a limited time on earth and we need to do our best about the things that are in our control and do not worry about the rest. Do not hesitate about having children. Having a child, is an utmost experience that has made me grow more and is a constant reason for me to become a better version of myself! Good luck, I enjoy your videos 💕

I think our meaning of life is so unique and we may even can't express it in words at all. May be it's bit different for each individual and we all need to feel it. I only can say, "Gratitude"- has a powerful connection with our meaning of life. That's all what I've learnt with my 22 year, on this planet. Thank you so much sis.
