I just discovered your videos today and I find them to be super helpful! Thank you so much JayJae! 😊 Also, I love your accent and your sense of humor. 🥰🥰🥰
Anyone who reads this comment, I found this video as a legit one among hundreds of vocal tips and technique videos I've watched from different channels since the start of my vocal training and journey for the past few years. As a vocal athlete struggling with the mystery of mixed voice and belting, this video instantly improved the resonance and solidity of my weak middle or mixed register, and almost eliminated my vocal breaks. Kudos to you, sir!
This video probably helped you out more because of the work that you've already done so far. Most beginners wouldn't get how important this message this, so thank you for your input :)
This actually worked for me! You are the best- out of the hundreds of singing videos I have seen, you are the most helpful with explaining open throat and mixed voice. Thank you very much!
I can’t believe I just found this video. Dude I can’t thank you enough for sharing this information!!! Everything you said and described, I 100% relate to! It was like you were in my head or knew my journey of trying to access my mixed voice! THANK YOU SO MUCH AND IM EXCITED TO GET COPIES OF YOUR TRAINING AND COURSES! I am completely inspired!!!!
It's amazing how you explained this thing so simply. Didn't even see a single video like this anywhere. You literally saved a lot of my time which I was about to waste again
8:28 This part really relates to me I've always had a mental breakdown. I want to sing many songs but the songs are not within my range for the high note higher than my range, i just do it with head voice or falsetto. My range that I can sing comfortably is from G3 to C5 higher than that I feel like my throat is being pulled. sometimes I can find my mix and I can feel it. but after that i lost that feeling and need to find it again and sometimes the tone that comes out is not what i wanted.
You are by far the best RU-vid vocal coach, I get your explanations very quick and they also explain and don’t just give exercises stupidly, thank you, you deserve so much more views
Omg i just realized that I've been humming in my mixed voice all this time, but I never actually found a way to bring it out. This helped immediately!! Thank you so much!
i ama complete beginner and just got compliments for singing and started yesterday, found this and i actually just now got mixed voice i hope you get alot more view. Thank you so much
You are really SMART and such a PROFESSIONAL underrated vocal coach. You helped me a lot THANK YOU SO MUCH . Now no more hide and seek with my mixed voice . :)
Usually when I try to sing it hurts my throat. I’ve had this issue for a couple of years now, and I’m not sure exactly how it started or how to fix it. Doing this actually didn’t hurt at all and I was very surprised by that. I thought for sure it would, but I think this might be the one exercise to actually help me. Thank you ❤
I was skeptical during all the hype and long build-up- but my voice is transforming after applying the trick. It's been over a year since starting to learn how to sing and this video has given me my biggest a-ha moment yet and unlocked the part of my voice that I had been searching for. Thank you!
This technique is exactly how I found my mixed voice. The high head voice placement is the key, and once there's compression is applied, the mixed voice comes in naturally and easy.
Bro what the fuck. Why did this work. I thought I had mixed voice down but I kept getting so tense when trying to sing high. But this actually fucking worked and felt so incredibly different. Best part! ZERO tension whatsoever.
It is called "switching early" to head voice as per one of my music teachers. That makes the transition a bit smoother and easier. But my head voice is not that pleasant to hear so I am not using this technique. It probably works for a lot of folks but I spent 3-5 years dabbling in this but I was not satisfied even though I could reach the high notes easily the voice was not there i.e. it never got any stronger. Instead I have been practising by singing loudly in my chest voice by reaching the pitch this way "think the pitch and sing it" as per my first music teacher Jane Edgren. She'd say don't try to reach the note. She never used the words headvoice even once during my 2+ years of training with her! I wish I had continued with her, it was 12 years ago!!! A few youtubers teach this technique (Phil Maufarrage is one of them) as well albeit they use different terms like compression etc. This latter technique works like one note at a time. After strengthening your chest voice up to your break try to sing that one note where you normally break using chest voice. It may be difficult initially but it becomes easier within a few weeks. After this, try to sing 2 notes higher from the previous note you just mastered and you will realize the concept of "think and sing" as in "action follows thought" when you will find yourself "touching the note". Keep doing this and you will find that as you are practising to perfect the higher of the 2 notes, you would have already learnt to sing the lower one without actually putting any effort into it like skipping a step while climbing the ladder!!! But every voice is unique. Patience is key. Good Luck!!!
wow that actually really worked, I have tried a bunch of different methods and weird exercises but this gave me an anchor point to find this new placement every time, great video!
I hope some of you find this comment, because I wanna assure you that what he’s telling you is powerful. Basically I had found this out myself, and as I watched this video it aligned exactly with my own technique. For a few years now I’ve been gradually improving by mostly just feeling out a way to sing clearly and powerful while just singing to songs. And just like he mentioned in this video, some days it’s like a switch flipped and I was singing effortlessly in a brand new tone. So only recently I discovered on my own how to get that tone again: warm up into songs with a very compressed head voice. You could literally just hum it if you want. But what I feel with this is like a bubble in my throat that is compressed, and then I’ll let out only a small amount in a head voice placement. If I’m correct head voice and is sharper than falsetto, falsetto is breathy while head voice is sharp with no breath. I’ll also do it in a raspy way too, while keeping the compression very tight. After doing this for just a few minutes, it’s like I get a nicely balanced tone and even natural vibrato. Another way of putting it is it’ll just make your tone powerful because instead of trying to belt out pop songs, I could hit the notes without even singing that loud just because of my high placement compression. I hope all of you take this lesson far and hopefully I helped more of you understand it by explaining it in my own way. This may just be the secret to singing
i agree with u, i tran my voice in high breathy voice and compress to the low place, its more easy rather than we get full resonance at chest voice and hard to get the some high voice to mix.. 🔥 your experience was so good
Man.... it's been 5 years im training alone, and i've came to the same conclusion as you but i wasnt sure until i see this video, using high note placement and fcking free my voice, I struggled so much, im so happy, ty for the facts, for the truth, god bless you, never give up all 💪❤️
SIR!!!!! THIS LITERALLY WORKS lol I know that you know that but I was following you when you were talking about compressing and it’s mind blowing! I was able to smoothly transition to mix voice, without straining and really felt that high placement
Thank you so much i had no issues with vocal breaking but i just didn't know how it felt and the vocal coaches on youtube just weren't any help and now i can work on it further :). I have been compressing in my head voice for some time now didn't even know i had been mixing haha...
Dude I seriously don't know if I found my mixed voice or not cauz I still dont exactly know how a mixed voice feels like...but tbh..all of what you said was completely something no one has said...and was so simple ...dont know bout mixed voice but i definitely did something...I havent done b4....Thanks my man!
Try humming a whole song in the "ng" sound or replacing all the syllables of a song with "naay". You should feel more of a buzzing in ur nasal cavity sort of like when u play a kazoo. That's a start 👍
Omfg I found it. After years of looking. My head voice and falsetto are already good. My chest voice has a beautiful full tone.. but I finally found my mixed voice. It sounds like an old hag honestly.. but shet, I know how train it. Bro best vid ever
Yep- I think Paul McCartney might be a great example. I don't think he ever sang a note in chest voice; but always stayed in what I called "strong falsetto", which is why he doesn't sound like he's switching gears. Some great singers do switch gears (Elton John on "someone saved my life" central park is a good example- watch when he hits the notes "anymore"). Trying to develop low notes in "high placement" might be a good strategy for folks to get there also.
Guys his video is more efficient than tons of belting courses that I've learned so far lol. To be honest I'm not very good at singing but not bad either, somewhere above average and I must say that his theory and explanation is freaking awesome. Also watch the video that he posted in the comment section, that's a LEGIT one, I found a lot of amazing things there, just pay attention and imagine, it's really work :)))
I’ve tried so many exercises to activate, sometimes I’d have a good day and sing high decent but than a lot of days I suck and can’t find it again. How did u
Really nice approach... You see the thing is it was easy for me to find my mixed voice... But it sounded so bad that I switched back to chest voice/falsetto combo... But I can sing powerful Rock songs in my mix where the tone does not matter...
There's a lot of reasons why it could sound bad. It could be that you are trying to mix in your low placement, or you just don't like the tone of your own voice, which is very common. But there is really no reason why it would sound bad as long as you are compressing properly in your high Complete Mixed Voice™ Placement
Lul this guy's got some serious swag and I never really use that word. Totally related to being able to magically hit all the notes and then losing it. Consistency is important. Anyone can sing with the proper realizations! Thank you JJ(:
im self taught in singing and I can't identify my mixed voice for the life of me, like belting is my strong suit yet i cant discover my mixed voice- this helped sm 😭
good video but this is only for pop singers. I prefer the sound of strong, low pharyngeal placement rock vocals & because I have a naturally full, heavy voice it's actually easier to for me to mix in the lower placement. When I go light or high it breaks. There is no one-size-fits-all, it depends on your genre & your own physiology.
This mixed voice video is THE best i have seen on youtube it helped get a firm understanding of it. i went from cracking my voice to almost finally reaching it. Love your videos man keep up the good work
the way i think about compression is like when you try to lift something heavy. for me, it’s the process of holding back air while simultaneously pushing harder with your support muscles. it’s quite a hard thing to explain but i hope this helps.
Try thinking like this, the space your voice is taking during head voice is the size of a pin head. Your mixed voice needs to thread through that small pin hole, so it has to stretch in order to fit inside, since it's much bigger than head voice. I dont know if it helps the way i explained it but it is how i view it 😂
Maybe Im basic, but I like the swearing. Very appropriate for the situation. I've been chasing mixed voice like a fucking baby for a fucking long time too. Love that heavy chest bullshit.
I will subscribe because YOU TALK REAL,,, I myself experienced that high placement 3 times but then I can't find it again. G#5, 3x how can I find it again ???😭😭😭
My last vocal coach tried to have me do this too. I just don't get it. I end up in some kind of head voice with more mouth resonance but it still doesn't connect to chest at all. Oh well :)
15min long video and only to found instantly access your mixed within 3second in some section of the video.. Yasss.. i am the one always sometimes sing easy high and the other day I'll struggle to hit high note again without pulling chest
😌👉YO..JAY JAE YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOME BRO..I BEEN SINGING ALL MY LIFE..AND I'VE LEARNED A LOT OVER THE YEARS..YOUR CONTENT IS ON POINT I'VE ALSO LEARNED SOMETHINGS JUST BY WATCHING AND LISTENING TO YOU THIS VIDEO I WATCHED LIKE TWICE ALREADY..THANX FOR THESE %💯VOCAL MASTERIES..
