High quality, well maintained fishing gear, specifically tackle, is critically important to success in your fishing. This is especially true at the Cape Cod Canal where big fish move in fast tides... In this video I took advantage of the mid-August lull in the striped bass fishing to refresh my gear and ready new gear as I prepare for the approaching fall run. Having fresh, strong hooks and split rings reduces the likelihood of experiencing equipment failure while you're fighting a big fish..
Lures:
Outcast Hybrid Popper, 4.5oz, white
Outcast Hybrid Popper, 3oz, yellow/white
Yo-Zuri Hydro Twitchbait, sinking, 150mm, 2&5/8oz

will you be doing the tutorial for reading tide and learning where and when the stripe come in and feed? i live far away and i would like something to likely give me a better chance at the canal

Hey there - thanks for watching! I typically don’t go into “spots” but if you watch the videos you’ll see some regular spots I tend to fish. As for the tides, look for low tides near sunrise. These will produce the breaking tides when stripers pin bait in the Canal. 🎣🐟

It’ll start kicking up late August, big push for September and October. November varies, we’ll see how the water temperature holds up as we move through the fall…

Hey Matt whats the name of the hooks and split rings do you use for your plugs?

For the hooks I use VMC 4x hooks in sizes: 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0. For split rings is use SPRO brand in a variety of sizes depending on the size of the lure.

Yes - I fished the Canal on Sunday, Monday and today… 3 of the 4 days so far this week…

Fishing has been pretty good a lot of gator blues mixed in recently.
