Either you print it or find someone to print it for you, theres no other way as corsair does not sell replacement parts. So unless you swap parts with another mouse, this is the only way.
My scroll wheel just died about 20 minutes ago, and I came across this video. I opened up the mouse and it was basically exactly as you described. On the left side of the scroll wheel, there's a little hexagonal plastic bit that goes into the encoder (teal thingy) which makes it turn. I have several 3D printers at the house, but even if I get a perfect print out of it, the flaw will still exist because they made that bit so absolutely tiny. The hex piece is 1/16" in size. I am going to take an old allen key / hex wrench and cut that off, drill through the "axle" of the entire scroll wheel piece, and epoxy the hex key into the hole with enough sticking out to press into the encoder wheel (teal bit). Should last quite a while when it's metal. (also might be a potential alternative for those without 3D printers.
Before I 3d printed it I soldered a similar tip as a make shift fix, it only worked for a month however! There seems to be a slight depression on the factory made scroll wheels which make them very weak in comparison to the model I 3d printed. I think printing it is “faster” for an everyday person who doesnt want to go in depth for a “real” fix. Hopefully yours turns out great!
I've had mine for about 6 years and the scroll wheel broke in the middle of me working on an Excel spreadsheet... I was hoping this was going to be something "easier" than what you showed: I don't own a 3d printer, and already ordered a new Scimitar. BUT This gives me hope that the same issue with my FinalMouse Air58 Ninja can be fixed if someone has the files for that... I would justifiably pay someone to fix that considering I paid north of $150 for that thing. Thank you for this eye-opening experience though!
Honestly I do think if you can purchase a new one it's just better, but you always have the option to engineer a "fix" of some sort. Printers are super useful for these small things and now libraries and shops have them where you can commission these types of things. Hope you can find a fix for the air58!
I got the scimitar pro elite rgb (my third one). I love this mouse. I can not find one that even comes close to comparing. I need the side buttons for basically everything I do. But the all seem to break after about 3-6 months of very heavy use. Right now the scroll wheel kind of works, it goes down a few clicks then it will scroll up a few clicks while still moving down, and vice versa.
Thank you so much for this. Seriously. It bothers me that we have to go out of our way to fix this. I mean, they need to swap a SINGLE mold, and probably add a few fractions of a cent more in plastic, and they just can't be bothered. Even though this has been a known issue for years. It's ridiculous. Really appreciate your help.
I fixed mine with glue. As long as you have the broken pieces you can be able to glue them back on the scroll wheel. Just be extremely careful when glueing the pieces, you don't want to apply excess glue because it might increase the size of the axle hence it will never fit. I fixed mine by first pouring the glue to a surface then used a broken toothpick to smear it only at the part needed hence avoiding excess. Just be fast as the glue also dries quick. After application, just re-insert the scroll wheel back to the mouse and close up everything but don't use it first. Allow the glue to dry up then start using it. Hope I saved you from buying a new mouse.
i had the issue of my scroll wheel not correctly registering an input so i watched this to learn how to take it apart safely and i cleaned the insides and everything seems to be good now not quite the reason you made the video but it helped me all the same thanks mate
I've owned 2 scimitar, 1 pro and 1 none-pro. On the pro, the wheel worked fine after 2 years, but the rmb would randly go out. I've owned the none pro now for about 2 years, and the wheel still works, it just does its own thing. In fpS games I'd scroll up to change weapons and it'd scroll down then up then down then up lol
Thank you for the video. My Scimitar Pro's scroll wheel just stopped working today. I was going to open it up tomorrow to see what the problem is and came across your video, which is a good guide for taking it apart. If it is the same problem you described (which it probably is) I'll just have to find someone with a 3D printer to print out a new scroll wheel. Thank you for posting the file for the print job and doing all the work of refining the size and all of that good stuff!
3:40 lmao i bought one just to fix this mouse. now granted I've been wanting a 3d printer for a while, but this exact problem with this exact mouse drove me to madness trying to use blender with a broken MMB. Big thanks for providing the STL file, you're a lifesaver!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks so much for this! My friend 3d printed the thing and I took it apart easily based on your video. It was exactly the issue! The little axel was broken. I had to push it out of the blue gear with a mechanical pencil. I had to trim down the 3d part a little bit so it could fit, but once it did, worked perfectly! Reassembly was easy and saved me $80 for a new mouse!
Not sure what magic you have in your video but my scroll wheel all of sudden started working after watching for 30 seconds and violently scrolling the wheel lol. Thanks!
You must be the nicest dude I have seen on a RU-vid video, my mouse wheel was behaving unpredictably, I opened it and sprayed WD40 on the green mousewheel thing, and now it's all good, thank you for this video :D
I had the same problem except I use the M65. I tried using your model as a quick fix but it ended up being too large, so I rendered my own mouse wheel from scratch for 3D printing, ended up being a perfect fit after a few tweaks
I had some parafine ear spray, angled mouse to keypad bottom side and sprayed between wheel and lmb, scroll for few minutes and its fixed, probably not permament but easy enough fix, and good reminder to clean out ear wax. also parafine is great for cleaning out bottom of your pads and improving glide
Thank you. My brother-in-law asked me if I could fix his mouse and I said sure. I have a 3D printer so why not? Thanks for the video and providing the files ( for doing the work) 🤣. Thanks.
Thanks for the vid! It was very helpful and led me to my issue. the way mine broke I was able to attempt a glue up. We will see how long it holds up but after some "testing" of the strength it seems like it will do much better than before. Thanks again!
Thank you for this fix video. My Scimitar Pro scroll wheel died last week and I'm gonna try to replace it with the one from my old Scimitar (non pro, the wheel still worked, but left click was dead).
I swear this was a really nice gaming mouse, but this exact problem happened to me after only a short period of time of using this mouse. After that i just learned to live with the broken mouse wheel for like 6 years. Now i've gotten a corsair iron claw rgb wireless, AND THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED AGAIN! Although i always was a big fan of corsair (Keyboard, Mouse and Headset are all from corsair because i bought them as a bundle like almost 9 years ago) this was the last time i bought any corsair products. I mean the same pice broken in 2 different mice and both after a short period of use... nah... I will switch to some other competitor and hopefully the quality will be better...
funnily enough I was looking to use this as a disassembly guide to remove the yellow plastic sliding mount from my Pro that gave out after 7 years of abuse (3 in highschool ametuer and 4 years in the collegiate competitive PC scene) after one of the primary power cables finally broke. I got the newest Scimitar Elites but they did not have this yellow option available. So what Im going to do is wait until warranty expires and then replace the plastic to have a 1 of a kind Scimitar Elite with the Yellow Pro slider.
Thanks for the video. I was confidently able to take it all apart and put it back together. My problem just ended up being five years of my girlfriend's and cat's hair wrapped around in there. I over tightened one of the case screws putting it back on but I didn't entirely strip it out. oh well, I'll be happy if I get a little longer out of this mouse anyways; considering I never had a mouse last this long. I bought it in november 2015. Thanks again for the vid.
printing the stl now. fingers crossed this works. I had corsair rma my first one but now this replacement has the same issue again and is out of warranty
I fixed my scroll by putting some vaseline on the small scroll (green) inside the mouse. I believe there are some sensors that are dirty that the vaselin removes.
My dude. I need a wheel! I use this mouse for work and I’ve already gone through the warranty. It’s such an amazing mouse for my most frequently used CAD design commands. Can you help me out with printing the wheel? I’ll cover shipping plus tip for this diligent work!
Hello ! thank you so much for the video and yes I use a Scimitar pro and broke that wheel thing. Send your files to a local 3D printer today, hope it works!
Nice! - What mouse did you end up getting? I actually did buy a new one too, newer is just better than "fixed" but some people cant spend or want to spend money on something that "works".
my scimitar has the middle mouse button switch malfunctioning. opened and cleaned it carefully with a brush, everything is working fine, the scroll wheel, the left and right click, but the middle scroll wheel click isn't because the switch itself needs to be replaced and that requires desoldering it, and resoldering a new one which I don't want to do. The mid mouse scroll wheel click still works but have to press down like crazy in order for it to track the key press. the click itself doesn't need a lot of pressure at all to be heard, but when hooked up to a PC, it doesn't register it unless I keep pressing down very hard. I think if corsair went with an ordinary mouse click switch instead, the scroll wheel mid mouse button would keep working still nowadays as we speak. Thanks for the tutorial. Your scimitar's internals are quite different than mine though. mine is a pro rgb maybe that's why and the scroll wheel can't be removed at all unless I either break it or remove it properly by removing the motherboard screws and lifting it first. the bigger circuit board that is.
Mine just died, unfortunately I do not have a 3d printer. I could feel the wheel go from having a nice feedback to instantly zero feedback and feel it just free spinning; guessing mine broke off like yours.
same thing happened to my iron claw. Managed to get a screw in there for a good couple months. Already purchased a new one :/ shame I would have loved to buy a replacment off you.
Let me just pull out my handy-dandy good old 3d printer, a common household item xD. Cool and informative video! But maybe place a little heads up that special apparatus/replacement parts are needed. I would of just bought a new one or sent mine in had I known this.
When I bought mine it never scrolled like it should. I thought it was a firmware update issue. I just took it apart and it was not broken nor did it appear dirty and this is after I magnified an image of the mechanism. I just cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol, blew it off with air, and then put one drop of 3-in-1 oil on the green gear mechanism and then used an acid brush to get any excess off. Now it seems to work fine though I really have no idea why...
mine was working fine, but my wheel was sometimes scrolling the opposite way. opened it up and cleaned around it and blew some air and now its working fine again.
I have the same mouse, but the Elite. I don't use for gaming but for work. The scroll wheel hasn't died yet. It just randomly scrolls in the wrong direction. I'll be scrolling down, then it scrolls up a few lines. I don't think my wheel thing is broke, but I still need to take it apart. I don't might so much for web browsing and what not but it's beyond frustrating when trying to work.
Yup got a fucked scrollwheel here too, luckily I have an old one that had a fucked left click so I can scavenge it for parts once I do get this open. edit: actually seems I'm still in my 2 year warranty so will do that instead :P
Well I'll have to do this at some point.. I am noticing my scroll going up sometimes when I am scrolling down.. Corsair why did you have to cheapen out on your scroll wheel....
Now my problem is that the middle switch is not working. I disassembled it and carefully touch the 2 contacts from the switch below and works, so the switch button internally is no longer making contact. Is there any way to find that switch or is it Corsair proprietary? I am working now with a 10 year old 5 dollars GENIUS mouse and works perfectly, I think Corsair is a really bad brand with cheap switches, millions of complains.
My scroll wheel just went out, this is my third scimitar with this problem and would like to fix it and not buy a new one but I don't have access to a 3D printer :(
Yeah - Sadly most companies dont offer repair kits or parts for peripherals. Ive tried makeshift ideas to fix it like soldering or glue but it really never worked. I know its difficult but the printer solution just works, highly recommend checking something like a library or a 3d print shop and requesting it rather than paying 80$ for a new one
Ours just died today. Was scrolling and heard it clicking as it did, then it stopped clicking and started spinning WAY more freely and no scrolling anymore. :(
ove had 2 corsairs scimitar pros they both lasted about 3 years then randomly just while doing nothing that intence they mouse wheel lost traction on both of them after inspecting its this issue only reason i tried it again was cos i love the mouse so much buuut this is 2 for 2 sooo maybe its time i look into a diff mmo mouse
Mine is not entirely broken, it's scrolling is very choppy and there is ghost clicks of the scroll wheel buttons even if hair touches the scroll wheel. Sending it to RMA and will use trusty ol Logitech G502 Proteus untill the mouse comes from warranty.
Hello, thanks for the video. After watching it I took mine apart and found that I am having the same issue as with this one. Unfortunately I do not have the option to 3d print one myself. If possible how should I get in contact to maybe have you send me one?
"How to fix your mouse wheel" "Just 3D print a new one, fucking normie" Jeez, thanks mister. Mouse is totally fixed! All it cost me was a fucking 3D printer..?
I'm on my forth Corsair MMO mouse over a 5 year period. I love my Scimitars as long as they work. I have few broken corsair fans, a corsair case with corroded USB ports and a faulty corsair AIO that almost killed my at the time brand new 10900K. From now on i I WILL NEVER, N.E.V.E.R BUY A CORSAIR product again. I'm a product designer myself, and Corsairs mice are DESIGN TO FAIL... Or they have REALLY shitty engineers, validation and QC people... No, they are is DESIGN TO FAIL period. Looking to CNC a few wheels for my 3 broken Scimitars in super strong Alu 7075-T6, and perhaps make more of them and sell.
Hey I had my mouse for about 5 months. I was just wondering where I could get one because I don’t have a 3D printer. If you can reach me please do so because there is no other way to fix my mouse
Same thing happened to my corsair I was hoping for an easy fix , how long would it take for you to print me a new scroll wheel? are you still on discord? I am willing to pay shipping
hey brother!! awesome video! i live far up north in minnesota and i dont know anyone with a 3D printer. my scroll wheel JUST DIED!!! i would love to get one of yours if you could! totally pay for it! ill send you an email as well! thanks again!
Hello, I was wondering if I could reach out for some help regarding the replacement part. If you could get back to me with the steps I need to take to get the replacement part mailed I would greatly appreciate it.
@@Nickyo I think so as well. But at least your video helped me find out how to open the shell, after unscrewing it to be able to diagnose it. Found the screws, but couldn't find out how to open it on my own. :) So thanks!
