Another tip is to remove and clean your PCV also,plus whilst under the hood give the MAF sensor a clean too.All these are good preventative stuff that needs doing every so often and saves a few head aches and hassle.Respect from the UK.

So I heard doing the throttle body cleaning.....( They told me on the electrical car's I can not move the play throttle if is electronic they told me on my training place! Because they told me. ......if I do? They said I have to adjust the throttle body! I am confuse in that. So in most throttle body's is fine to just clean like you are doing? Good tip Bri, guilty of not doing this at all on a 2007 Ford Focus with 108 on her now. Known to have a does have a sticky throttle body but I never investigated it further. Could be this will do the trick. I will give it a try next weekend. Thanks...

Very nice explained, I appreciate that I have a question, couple of days ago was driving back home from work and I stopped at a store for a few minutes, got into my car and I turn the engine on I proceeded to drive and as soon as I gave gas the car started to hesitate violently I stopped the vehicle and thought what in the hell was that? Waited for a few minutes got the engine back on and started to drive again and this time didn't do it but the very next morning was going to work and it did it again, it was almost three blocks from work but I managed to make it, the mechanic I go to it is just across the street from work, I had to drop it off Saturday, any ideas what's going on or more or less what the problem could be?

Can a o2 sensor that's going bad cause rough idle also? Asking because on a recent road trip I got a check engine light that came on and it was for an o2 sensor but it went off after a few hours later. Ever since that light came on and went back off I get a bouncing rpm gauge at idle just wondering if the o2 sensor has something to do with it or just clean the throttle body and see what happens

Hi sir, i have a 05 chevy colorado. I have cleaned throttle body, cleaned mafsensor, replace map sensor, replaced camshaft sensor. And it still sits at 500 rpm. No engine light is on. Do you have any idea what it might need?ive been in the thinkin man pose for a few days now. Note: The connecton wires for the map sensor are loose and was giving code for low voltage.

I removed and cleaned the throttle body all over with correct spray cleaner and the IAC valve as well. The rough idle remains and some hesitation when I accelerate at about 40mph or more. The MAF sensor was also cleaned carefully with that cleaner for it.. I am wondering about the rubber tube that goes from the large diameter throttle body metal tube back toward the top of the engine. Not sure of the names... I could not get the 'star' screws off to remove the front of the IAC, but the rotating barrel can be manually pushed easily with a toothpick. Negative battery terminal was covered and disconnected for the full time of removal and reassembly.

I have a 2003 Nissan Xtrail 2.0 petrol engine. I have noticed a little problem when i start the engine. It slightly vibrates with sort of noise somewhere at engine close to alternator area. (Not sure if its from alternator or). This happens when Air con is on and when its at D or R gear. but when you accelerate to more that say 500rpm or so it is ok. (not when its at N or P or even with AC off). Idle is somehow less than 500rpm. Otherwise its doing very fine... What could this be and how to solve it?

i been having an issue with my dodge durango 2wd, it idles poor when iether at Park or at a red light , engine starts shaking like it was a misfire but there are not codes , i have changed the spark plugs recently tester the coils and they seem to be working fine, my next step is cleaning the throttle body and probably changed the sensor as well since its cheap. can a blown head gasket be causing this issue??

Is this an electronically driven throttle body? I have heard that it's not a good idea to touch the throttle plate if so as it could damage the throttle body itself and maybe take off your fingers.

Hello, I just brought an older 2003 Lexus Rx300. I notice that the VSC light and Trac OFF lights where display on the dash. It seemed to start up and run just great for a couple of days. I have driven the car approximately 300 miles. Freeway mostly. I did notice that the gas mileage wasn’t all that great. I feel blessed that the car didn’t leave me stranded and is here in the garage refusing to cooperate. I went to start the car this morning and the car will not start or idle no matter how much gas I give it. The car has a strong battery but as soon as I take my foot off the gas to put in gear the engine dies immediately. Can you come over and fix it for me Please.

I hve one question. ....I had a few jobs done on my 2005 Nissan Murano by a recommended "mechanic" about 2 wks ago...water pump, cv joints axles, pressure hose & valves cover gaskets because my engine developed small oil leak, the car was returned to me after the jobs were completed, with a problem that just happens mostly in the am or pm as soon as its turned on, and last about maybe 5 minutes as I drive off.....the rpm needle jumps in between 1 & 4 and as I take off the engine does this sudden vibration like wanting to turn off , but doesn't, it last not long , but is a problem that my car didn't hve prior to bringing to this person , so Iam hoping that maybe u could tell me what it can be causing this since I don't want to deal with that " mecanic" anynore .....I hope u reply . thanks alot.

Did this earlier, car was sitting for a while and was so gummed up it wouldnt even run. Got some carb clean and cleaned that shit up and it runs like new. idles low tho :p

I cleaned mine a while ago but it didnt fix the weird iddling of the engige. RPM goes up and down a little idk what the issue is, maybe intake manifold gasket? I did removed it and didnt install a new one. There is some rust inside the cooling system, incluting the engine . Oh is a 2004 jetta.

Not to the point of causing any problems, yet. However, we just got our 1st blast of Arctic cold a few days ago & now, the idle problem has developed into a 'hard to start' problem, as well. Would this be related to a dirty throttle body or something else? Generally, my '02 Silverado sits on a shelf until I need to use it, as I normally drive my (fuel efficient) car. However, I've been driving my truck over the last couple of months, whilst I do some work to my car. Point being.... Letting fuel sit for months at a time - with fuel stabilizer added to the system... Will this gum up the fuel pump, filter &/ or injectors? &, if so.... Would this be connected to harder 'cold starts'? Thanks ahead of time. I look forward to your input.

what if you put a brand new throttle body? I put a new one in my 04 350z and now it idles at about 750rpm and it is on the verge of stalling out

Hi, can I please ask your advice? So I just bought a used Mazda 3, 1.6 diesel (2012) Venture edition. It has 75k miles on the clock and all else seems fine other than one thing. I’ve had it a week now and I’ve noticed that it is a little rough while idling. There isn’t any RPM surge or anything like that, it’s just rough at a standstill. Now at first I thought it was because I have gone from a 2ltr petrol to a diesel but I’ve also noticed that there seems to be slight jerks when I accelerate.... I think it goes away once the car has warmed up a bit but I can’t be too sure as I haven’t done any longer journeys this week. The day I bought it I drove it back from London which is about 150 miles and I didn’t feel any jerks. I could be feeling a power loss but as I’ve not known any different as I’ve just got the car (and Im used to a much quicker car) I can’t really be sure. I have also smelt a chemically smell a couple of times inside the car.. could be coolant smell or just something the dealer has cleaned the engine with... don’t know for sure as I’m not mechanically minded! Please help! Is it something big that I will have to find money I don’t have for!!?

Question, I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado WT with a 5.3 gas engine. My idle RPMs run really really low. When in drive stopped at a light they dip below 500 RPMs and this causes a lope in the idle. It's really annoying. I've already cleaned my throttle body with SeaFoam and CRC GDI cleaners. The CRC seems to work a lot better but it didn't fix the idle. And in using that as well as the SeaFoam it tends to make it idle slightly worse at times. So I changed my the throttle body even tho the truck wasn't staling or anything like that. Just has a rough low idle. I have also changed plugs, belts, battery, and wires and have no codes. I do notice that if I gently touch the accelerator and raise my idle RPMs to say around 700 to 750 that it gets a lot smoother and the lope all but goes away. So here are my questions and I'm sorry for the long winded explanations. This idle is just driving me nuts. One how would I go about raising my idle RPMs and if that's not an option (I've had trouble finding people with a scanner who can actually access the idle RPMs) then what could fix this? It's a great truck and I love it. Just sucks because it idles so poorly. It's frustrating too because again no codes and the thing never dies or stalls. Not even in super cold weather. Please help as this is driving me nuts! Tx for whatever advise you can offer.

hello Bri, several things,,, I thought you shouldn't move the throttle body flap without disconnecting the battery and making the accelerator be push down while doing the work, I cleaned my throttle body 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3L, still having acceleration problems

Speed up the video 1.5x ....trust me ...it saves a lot of time. You dont have to spray the whole can.... do a little at the time.

After replacing the battery on my 02 Camry, the refused to idle. After cleaning up the the rottle body, I did not have any more idle issue. Something I learned from another RU-vidr

I just take it off. It's usually 4 screws and a plug. And the gaskets are typically a silicone type so you can re-use it.

You really should specify the vehicles that you can clean the way you did here. Do this to a Nissan or a number of other brands and you are going to have issues. The idle relearn process is also much more complicated and requires various temp parameters to be met. Just driving it around is not going to do anything.

I'm getting symptoms like my car has got a vacuum leak but no sensors are tripping, I had the Nissan dealership do a smoke test and they said they didn't find a single leak, everything is tight. Going to try to clean my throttle body out the way you're describing. Maybe that'll straighten out the low idle and rough idle.

Hi, I know this video is old but hopefully someone sees this and could clear something up for me. My 2014 Silverado (about 90k miles) is idling at about 500 rpm, which makes me immediately think it just needs a throttle body cleaning. I just bought the vehicle last week and the previous owner didn't know the last time the throttle body was cleaned, so I'm guessing it hasn't been. I've seen some people saying that touching the throttle body plate can easily damage it because the little motor that controls the plate is delicate. I've also seen some others say it's no problem. I even saw one video where the guy used some very fancy (expensive) looking software to electronically open the plate for cleaning and to relearn idle. What's the deal with this? I usually like to do things myself whenever possible, but I have a good mechanic who can take care of it if this is something best left to a professional. I'm just not sure if it's as big of a deal as it seems some people make it out to be
