Rob is very intelligent in figuring out how to fix problems! He seems to really think things through & does a great job with whatever he attempts! Way to go Rob!
The first time I heard the chirp I legit thought there were crickets outside. Kind of nice like a lullaby...few days later it got worse, gotta run that thing on airplane take off mode to escape the squeak. I've been afraid to take it apart because of the electrical but I think I'll give it a shot now. Thanks for the vid, super helpful and good editing. Yay to no more fan fixes

Nope! It seems the only true fix is to swap to a brushless motor which doesn't seem to exist in a direct-swap size. The dust from the brushes causes the squeak
@@OutofIpswich interesting, so is the squeak coming from the brushes themselves? Or is the dust from the brushes contaminating the bearings, causing the bearings to squeak? The bearings in your vid kinda look like they are the 608zz instead of 608z, since both sides of the bearings appear to be shielded. I was hovering over Amazon, about to buy new bearings, but wondering if I should hold off. I have the same situation, living/ working/traveling full time out of my little teardrop trailer, and the ceiling fan is one of the most important pieces of equipment! Really appreciate the video!
@@sjdax7 apologies for the late reply. Hopefully you see this. I believe the noise is from the brushes riding on the dust-covered commutator. I've disassembled the van to clean only this area and it stops the noise for a time. The bearings are double-shielded, as you guessed. So I don't believe they're getting contaminated. It seems like the simplest solution is to live with it. Otherwise, we'll have to figure out how to convert to brushless. I'm just not gonna do that, though.
@@OutofIpswich thanks for the reply! I'm going to swap out the bearings with higher quality ones as long as I'm in there. I'm also going to see if I can polish the commutator and brushes, see if I can reduce friction in some way to reduce brush dust formation. But yeah, might just need to be periodically taken apart and cleaned 🤷
@@sjdax7 I wonder if you could fill the gaps in the commutator with a low friction, smooth insulator. I think the majority of dust is produced by the leading edges of the copper segments scraping the face of the brushes. But that's just a theory.
