Oddly enough I just fixed my 8 year old Acer 23 in monitor the same way but it was the main Power Cap which was 1000uf @ 450v's. Blown the ( - ) negative leg off the bottom of the cap. Not seen that but one other time... :-D When something quits I just replace all the caps and it fixes it 99% of the time. I fixed my sisters TV the other day and it was a power supply cap too... If there's no signs of life in your monitor, then start with checking the fuse, MOSFETs and capacitors. If you see some popped capacitors, then simply replace them and see if it's enough.

How do I know which capacitor(s) to get? I have an LG IPS LED Flatron IPS236V-PN, Model # IPS236VX. It keeps flashing horribly and quickly. It takes me a long time to get it stable. All capacitors have markings with the nominal capacitance value and a maximum voltage rating. Simply buy the same. Or send me the link with the caps photos and I'll give the links for the right components.

Hi, But what do you do when all of the electrolytic capacitors are fine (MOSFETs & voltage regulator too), but still your backlight doesn't work ? 😣 Turns on for about 2 s, then shuts off. If you use a LED flashlight & shine on the LCD you can see the image. What to check next ? Thanks ! 🙄 Best Regards,
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 3 года назад
One of the CCFL bulbs is dead. In that monitor there are 4 bulbs. Disconnect them all and then try one by one (the backlight won't turn on with the dead bulb/bulbs) then you have replace it or bypass with a cheap high voltage capacitor that you need to solder or connect to the wires that go to that bulb.
@davidbolha
@davidbolha 3 года назад
@@ElectronicsComputers I suspect this too. I'll give it a go. 🤔😑😏🖒
@davidbolha

@@ElectronicsComputers Well I tried the process of elimination on those 4 CCFL's just now, but sadly the issue still remains. 😕 Should I check the two 3 kV ceramic capacitors nearby as well ?
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 3 года назад
@@davidbolha You have to connect only one lamp and then turn on your monitor. If the backlight turns on for a few seconds then that lamp is good. Go ahead and check the rest of those lamps. If there's no backlight with one of them then you have to bypass or replace that lamp. You can't just unplug the bad lamp, because there's a protection on the inverter PCB that doesn't allow to provide power to the lamps with dead or missing one of them.
@davidbolha
@davidbolha 3 года назад
@@ElectronicsComputers I did that. I tried everyone of those 4 & each behaved as you described. So they are fine. 😕 I also checked the voltage regulator & diodes.

Nice. But would also be nice to see what happened after the caps were replaced. Did the monitor start up again? Sometimes, it's possible that the busted caps busted because another component upstream - such as another capacitor - a bigger one, failed (even if not looking bulging). And replacing the downstream ones can just lead to them blowing again. And blown capacitors can sometimes lead to blown transistors and other components.
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 месяца назад
Yes, that monitor was repaired and returned to its user. I had a pile of old monitors in the office, all of which were 5+ years old, and simply replacing all bulged capacitors brought them back to life. Of course, I checked all capacitors, but I made this video specifically for regular users who aren't familiar with electronics and who want to save some money by attempting repairs themselves. I'd say that in 90% of cases, replacing visually faulty capacitors is enough. However, if I were repairing it for myself, I'd replace all capacitors at once, even if some of them still appear to be in good condition.

Cool repair. My Viewsonic 2038wm-LED monitor turns on but the screen image flashes every few seconds (screen is on, screen is off, screen is on. The image actually looks good, not faded or anything). The term may be it's flickering every second or every few seconds? These are cylindrical electrolytical capacitors, I see which aren't bulging or seems to be damaged: Electrolytical Capacitors 100v 33nF 25v 30nF 25v 330nF 10 680nF 50v 47nF 16v 470nF 16v 470nF 450v 100nF huge one (the largest) Ceramic capacitors I see are: 4 blue ones, one blackish & one light brown The nearest to the connector to the LCD controller board are the two 16v 470nF capacitors. Which could be the possible culprit? Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31

Runs great and with signal , you get perfect picture and green light but whether signal or not, i cant turn it off?? tried the power button for 1 second ,3,10 and nothing. i pulled it apart and checked continuity from buttons to the cable at the logic board, so it must be fault there. Is the start circuit permanently "on" or something screwed up? No bulging caps ect and nothing obvious.

If you ripped off the HDMI port from the motherboard, you have to solder it back in place. Sometimes the ripped port can tear the traces on the PCB, which you will need to restore with thin wires. Acer Predator XB271HU gaming monitor not working I've had this monitor for a little over 3 years, it worked fine with one exception - rebooting the monitor by pressing the power button twice would make it "hang" with a power LED on, but no picture on the screen (not even a logo / splash screen). I've found that leaving the monitor unplugged overnight fixed the problem and it would start up and work again normally the following morning. This solution worked fine until recently, now the monitor won't turn on even after a week of being unplugged. The LED still turns on whenever I plug the monitor in, I've attempted a factory reset by holding down a combination of menu buttons (as per Acer manual) but I didn't get any response from the monitor (no LED changing colour, or flashing, monitor didn't reboot, etc...), so there is a possibility that this problem is caused by a faulty motherboard. I imagine that the panel should still be working, but some other part might need to be replaced to get the image on the screen again. Please help me with how to fix it

@@sandeeppiplani5648 You need to replace your LCD panel. There's no sense to by a new one to replace because it will cost almost like a new monitor but if you'll find a used one or the same monitor with other issues the you can easily swap them.

I have a samsung led monitor that has a few horizontal lines in the top (maybe like 2cm). After some times passes the whole screen gets them. This goes away when i stop using it for a few days but the top lines stay. What could it be i already checked that flat cable

If you hit the monitor at the top or sides, does it affect those lines somehow? Also when you see those lines if you press the menu button does it look normal or also affected by the defect?

Great job on fixing your monitor. Check if the brightness and backlight settings are the same. Also, over time the LEDs degrade and may not be as bright as they were before.

@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 3 месяца назад
Try to unplug it for a few minutes and then plug back in. If you slowly plug the cable into the outlet can you hear sparks? If not, then it could be a dead fuse in the monitor but without checking all components with a multimiter it's hard to say.

Hi, I have this Dell LCD 2709W for some time now, but about 3yrs ago it stopped turning on, took it to a technician and they could not fix it but suggested i change the board, which we could not obtain anywhere in Nigeria. I packed it up, after about 4mths I plugged it, power it on and voila its working, i used it for sometime and it stopped working again. So i packed it again and after a month tried to power it again and it did not work, so i left it for longer like 3mths plus and power it again and its working. It stopped working last year and i packed it again, i tried powering after a while it did not work, so i left it again for longer, i just powered it on today and its working. Is there any explanation to this? What could be done? Thanks
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers Год назад
Could be a bad contact, bad solder joint, dead capacitor etc. When you say it doesn't work, can you be more precise? When you press the power button hat kind of LED indication you get if any at all? If you very slowly plug the power cord into the outlet can you hear the discharge noise and see sparks?
@vivesparkle
@vivesparkle Год назад
@@ElectronicsComputers thanks so much for your reply, i really appreciate. When its not working; this is the behaviour - when i plug in the power cord, the power indicator flashes on in a blink and then remain off, if i remove the power cord and try again, it will not flash on anymore except i leave it for some hours and try again and it flash on again. If i leave the monitor unplugged for months, then its going to be operational the next time i plug it in. I only hear the discharge noise the first time plugging it in, subsequent time i would not hear except i leave it unplugged for some hours and try again then i would hear it, just like the power indicator.
@vivesparkle

@@ElectronicsComputers another helpful information is - whenever i forget to unplug the monitor before running a generator or try powering it while running on generator, then the monitor would stop working (would not power on again) untill after months of not being plugged in. This issue does not happen with grid supply or inverter supply even after a supply failure and restore

Connect your monitor to a PC and turn on everything. Then turn on the flashlight on your phone and shine it on the screen. Look at different angles. If you see your desktop, then it’s a backlight issue. If there’s nothing on the screen, then it could be a power supply problem. Anyway, I’d start with the capacitors, but without checking some power rails and key points, it’s hard to say what’s wrong with your monitor.

I tried this and still didn't fix the problem. Then I changed both the Power Supply and Video boards. Still didn't fix the problem. Monitor flickers then turns off. Any ideas what to do next?
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 года назад
Maybe the problem in backlight lamps. As you can see, on the left side of power supply's PCB there are 4 connectors. Try to connect them one by one and turn On your monitor. The monitor will turn On backlight lamp for a few second. If there's no backlight then that lamp is dead. You can replace it or bypass with any capacitor rated for 1-6Kvolts.
@mickeyflowers
@mickeyflowers 4 года назад
@@ElectronicsComputers Let me clarify how you suggest. I should take off the 4 connectors for the backlight lamps. Then I should turn on the monitor. Then i should connect one connector at a time and see what happens. Is that correct?
@ElectronicsComputers
@ElectronicsComputers 4 года назад
@@mickeyflowers 1. Disconnect all 4 connectors. 2. Then plug one of them and turn On your monitor. If you see the backlight then that lamp is OK. turn Off your monitor. 3. Connect another one and turn On your monitor etc until you find the lamp which doesn't work.

I'm afraid you will have to do a lot of googling to find the solution to that problem. It is a completely different type of problem from the one this video is for (monitor not turning on in the first place). I'd advise you collect the name and hardware number of your monitor and also which kind of cable you are connecting with (is it hdmi?)
