How to Fix Drifting/Ghost Movement PSP Thumbstick

while modding a PSP i had lost this piece, but didn't know it until after. i DID remember where i threw it on the ground tho, so i found it, thank you so much for showing me about that little clear ice-cube lookin' stick

Nice one. Took mine off and cleaned it up with compressed air and electrical contact cleaner. It never worked but once it was calibrated it works fine now. Great tip with the calibration. Never knew about that. 👍

After cleaning with no success, I borrowed a broken PSP from a friend and tried his face plate on mine still with no success but when I tried the *calibration* it fixed it! Thank you so much! I thought I had to open it completely from the motherboard and clean it up even further. edit: another problem appeared. It seems from assembling and disassembling so many times the D-pad up and down doesn't seem to respond as responsively as left and right. It is odd since it is seating in a unipad sort of part.

That calibration thing did work but seems like I’ve gotta do it every 30 mins

Thanks for the video. A bit of good old Isopropyl Alcohol on the pins worked for me. No more drifting around and sticking. Cheers

One of the screws to remove the faceplate was stripped on my used PSP, but I managed to lever enough room to tighten the analog stick screws. Seems to have worked, thanks!

mine worked after a little cleaning with an alcohol wipe and its perfect now. it would mess up every once in a while until recently when it just stayed messed up all the time until this fix now its great. thanx for the tip.

My new thumbstick dows the same and cannot be calibrated. Perhaps its the contacts rubber the problem (that silicone on the board)

Calibration absolutely saved me! Thanks a bunch, holy crap. It got so bad that the slightest touch of the console sent the input downward all the way. Works like a charm now!

My psp 1000 has an issue with the thumbstick giving a continuous left input. I have a game with over world parts, its an rpg, and the screen is constantly going to left it makes the game unplayable

i have a 2000 psp and i took the damn thing apart like 8 times and swapped the stick with different ones and nothing. wish i knew you could calibrate the stick. it was so annoying but this saved me lmao

I just left the screw closest to the screen on the joystick a little loose and its FIXED. the screw seems to make the level uneven if you tighten it all the way so just keep it loose to where it meets the plastic slightly.

Great video. I had mt PSP open cleaning it and tested my analog stick. It was drifting. Turns out all I had to do is put the screws back in and all was right.

I ever tried to play Gran Turismo, but i cant play it because the cursor keeps moving on its own

So , I also bought an aftermarket shell and the joystick stopped working. I noticed that the shell was printed very bad and the joystick was oblique, so I simply put a piece of paper where the screw inserts and realigned the base of the joystick.. Now it works perfectly without the calibration.

My games are playable again. Thank you.

Doubt it’s much use now but I thought my analog stick was broken after I just bought a psp used but all I had to do was screw the faceplate on a little bit tighter and it’s good agian now

has anyone tried to remove the little silicone and solder 4 cables between the board and the joystick?

I was having similar issues with stick drift. And after you mentioning how, when you were demonstrating the stick with the cover not screwed on, I took a closer look. Turns out my face plate is busted in the perfect spot so the stick drifts. Thanks for providing the insight!

The biggest issue with the psp... And switch owners think they are the only ones to have that issue, At least they can just replace the stick but psp that often dose not.
