I agree with everything except "don't leave". I will date for quite a while, if she has tampo on a date, I will take her home. That will be the main answer to Tampo. Take or send her home. I want a relationship with a woman and not a child. If she acts like a child, she can live with her parents until she is ready to act like an adult. A Filipina in tampo displays the maturity of a 14 year old girl. How would I know? My asawa of 22 years used to do tampo. When she realized that it didn't really work for her, she eventually changed her ways and the lines of communication are open a lot more now. In other words, she grew up.

I don’t take it personally any more. I just let her be her, and refuse to guess at what she is tripping out on. I find my Filipina a lil smothering most of the time. I just basically ignore it, and do my thing. Surf RU-vid, work projects, reach out to my kids, eat and drink whatever I want. She will talk like an adult eventually. It’s not just Filipinas that do this. It’s like a child sulking and there’s not much point in asking her what’s wrong. Eventually she’ll just stop doing it - the problem usually comes out later. But while it’s going on, you feel like your being unfairly punished and then you also get annoyed. I found it exhausting when it happened to me. And it gets more frequent as time goes on because she remembers all these things and the resentment festers. Eventually it’ll finish the relationship. So I don’t see this kind of behaviour as the cute quirk it’s being portrayed as.

A Filipina co-worker who is a work buddy one day decided to give me the silent treatment. This is in Canada and although Canadian Women may also practice tampo they are also more likely to discuss what the problem is. Not Ms. Camaclang though. Asking her what they problem was, was met with denial that there was one. A week later, no change so I decided to just be business professional with her and not risk any further possibility of an emotional reaction.

I appreciate the attempt to share the woman’s view and you do specify that if she uses it to manipulate, then leave the relationship. But the girl will always assume that the guy did something wrong and it’s his fault and that’s why she’s being tampo. But just as often, it’s her that is in the wrong and when she discovers she is at fault, she won’t admit it or say sorry. So just be a damn grown-up and let me know what the issue is so we can address it. If I’m wrong, I’ll own up and apologize. If I’m right, she should do the same. Why the hell do we need all the drama? If she wants to be silent, I’m not going to sit there like a child waiting for my parent to give me permission to do move or say something. She can be silent all she wants but I’m not going to put my life on hold while she does. I’ll go find something else to do.

Don't understand why the man is playing doctor for the unstable woman

As I understand it now, from watching another video, it is a control tactic. A Filipino man will react to Tampo with a host of questions, that give her ammunition to guilt him later. She becomes the one in Control of the relationship. The other reaction from the Filipino man, is to go out and cheat on her, ignoring her during her moody blues. This of course he believes will put him in control. The westerner option is to pack her backs and if in the west, take her to the airport and give her funds for a flight home and leave her. Or if in the Philippines pack her bags and send her away. It is like dealing with a teenager or spoilt child. Do NOT beg her to explain, or give her a list of possible reasons. It is like a man opening up about his emotional vulnerability, it will be used against you, because she thinks that you are weak. That she can control you.

The moment any woman does that to me it is instant break up because it shows she lacks emotional maturity and the ability to solve problems in a diplomatical and mature way.

So to recap, if woman tampo then man assumed wrong, man has to figure out how to fix and cater to make things right? That guarantees it'll happen again.

What would be a filipina's response to a man doing tampo be? Would she also take these same steps of re-evaluating herself, winning him over, and living with the silent treatment until he's ready? (100% serious question)

We can't read minds, I don't always understand what is bothering her, often filipinas will indirectly want something but won't say it directly. This leaves me confused and tired trying to solve the puzzle. It is not healthy for a relationship. My solution is just carry on and ignore her until she is over it. What else can I do when I don't see any big problem? Later she might give me enough information to figure out what she wanted in the first place. Its crazy even if it is pervasive in the culture.

Following this advice will just reward tampoo behavior so you will keep getting it. Let her cool down for an hour but after that its best to press the eject button.

I get it, especially the example given of flirtatious texting. It is offensive to her dignity as your partner. Hopefully I bring more to the relationship than just a wallet. Her village gave me an ocean front lot. I married a woman half my age (better than George Clooney), and she gave us three kids and loves my grown kids. And man, she can cook, dance and sing. She never needed me. But we love each other.

The fastest way to get her to respond is tell her you feel so much stress that you have to leave right now and get a massage. The Filipina will immediately go to DEFCON 1, which is roughly analogous to going from Tampo to MMA-style Tapotement. Works every time and you may even meet a nice nurse before it is all over.

I just told my Ldr just now that when her phone was at 1% and there was a brown out to pretend that she had battery and power and get all her Tampo out for the rest of the year 🤣. She replied via text “Haha I see, well sure…It’s amazing to have you ☺️ No tampo anymore”.

If you like a girl maybe for a gf, tell her straight away that in MY CULTURE, we don't do TAMPO so don't even start that. If she doesn't like that and goes into TAMPO after telling her that, it's hit the road if you are smart. Emotional insecurity isn't something you need to put up with. If they really like or hopefully love you, they will get the picture quickly.

If iy goes more than a couple of hours, go out for food for a couple of hours, then come back and resume doing your thing where she can see that you haven't cut and run. If it’s easy enough for me to figure out what went wrong then fair enough I can take a guess… If not I am not going to stress about it. Either she can calm herself down, talk to me about it. I’ve been there done that, I’m not going to stress or simp over something I can’t guess. If it goes on too long or happens too often then there’s a problem either in the relationship or with her.

Tampo means. I feel offended and I need too punish you. It doesn't matter if my judgement of a situation - I feel offended - is one-sided. I need to improve my emotions at your expense. I will do it by not respecting your time. I feel acting on my emotions is the right way, since in the moment my emotions validate me. I am driven by my emotions, so I can't be wrong. To communicate means to try to align my views with your views. That is a hard job to do. I would rather see you align to my perspective on things. Tampo helps me keep my world perfect, since I prove to myself in each instance, the alignment of my views is not necessary.

Relationships are hard work no matter what the culture or where they come from. "If its not Tampo, it`s yet something else" For me, after being divorced twice from California, I will take my chances with Tampo vs. a western women whom will throw you to the wolves and destroy your well being with the "man hating" court system at the drop of the hat !!! My wife tried that, big mistake. I got the most relaxation not hearing her voice. It felt so good that I had to reevaluate the relationship and divorce her. Don’t deal with it and address it head on. No, sorry to burst your bubble, I have experienced this phenomenon in various countries. It is nothing special. However, it is controlling and counter to co-operative discourse that leads to a happy life between adults. Of course there is no need to panic. In fact, there is no need to do much other than go about your own business as though nothing is happening, because nobody can change another person, let alone a person who lacks emotional maturity. I have to remind myself that some people are not self-aware enough to understand that in any form the behaviour is toxic to a healthy relationship between adults. Also, the myth of direct American communication is only a myth propagated by that terrible correlation of arrogance and ignorance.. With so many cultures and regions and so on, it is folly to try to imagine a monolithic "American" communication style.

Tampo could have something to do with her family or her Philippine boyfriend and not you at all. It could be that you gave her money to buy a phone and she drank it up with her friends instead.

The comments here, though, are wannabe macho-man hilarious, 'don't have a clue' nonsense. I usually don't write about personal stuff, buuut, I was married to a Fabulous Filipina for many years and have interacted with quite a number of Filipinos/Filipinas. They ALLLLLLL 'make tampo' at some point. Even the best ones. They're trained to do it from birth. Why don't you beat your cat for chasing mice? I mean, it's such a dumbass thing to do when they have a bowl of food there, right? You are not going to change 'making tampo.' At least not overnight. YES IT IS CHILDISH NONSENSE AND UTTERLY RIDICULOUS/DISRESPECTFUL -- to us! But, it will change as you blend together. Yes, it's quite literally a communication issue -- in that you are NOT communicating with big boy/girl words or even in a way each other remotely understands. She simply wants reassurance and to feel better (unless she's trying to manipulate you). All your logic in the world isn't going help her feeeeeel better or more reassured that you really care about her. Filipina's need an abundance, or maybe overabundance, of reassurance. It is what it is. If you don't want to deal with it. Don't date Filipinas. Dealing with Tampo (with a good Filipina): Rule 1: You're the man. You lead the dating/relationship. Lead her to understanding and she will get it. It just takes a little time. Teach her how YOU communicate while NOT devaluing how SHE communicates. Rule 2: Ignore it -- but don't leave, or take her home, kick her out of your flat, or throw her off the balcony. (and trust me, in the beginning, you'll absolutely want, and be very tempted, to do exactly that last one 😛). If you take her home, leave her at the restaurant, etc - you've just said to her in no uncertain terms, "I really don't give a damn about you." Exactly the same way her tampo is saying to us "I don't respect you enough to communicate with you." Neither of those is true., but that's what you, and she, are saying to each other. Rule 3: Everything with humor. This *always* works for me, but your mileage may vary. I would sing (horribly) goofy songs, ask her dumb questions like 'if this was because the toilet seat was left up,?' etc etc... Make some goofy faces. Whatever. It always worked to make her smile, then laugh and tampo didn't last long. They laugh VERY easily because they are naturally happy. Once she laughs, it's difficult to get back to tampo. The key here is interacting whith her, showing you care while not taking her tampo seriously -- basically the art of ignoring the tampo while not ignoring HER. If you follow those simple rules, you'll survive tampo with flying colors and she'll do it less and less as you lead her to communicate more.
