How to Fix/Repair NDSL/DS Lite Top/Upper LCD Screen 3/3 

Thank you so much for uploading this video... my ds was broken and i never knew what was wrong, so i opened it up and noticed that the top ribbon cable was torn and knew that i needed to replace my top lcd screen, and after many hours of work, i have fixed my ds and am so happy

When my 13-year-old son broke his screen on his Pokemon DS Lite, I knew we couldn't just replace it with a new DS. These instructions worked perfectly. Thanks so much for your help!

Man. Fixing this bad boy was far easier said than done. I gotta say though, this tutorial was extremely helpful. I just hope everything continues to work for me.

thanks so much for making this video! i was able to repair my sons DS lite no problem! i will say replacing this was even harder than replacing a laptop LCD!

@KMCGamer If you are getting a clear picture on the Lower LCD, then you simply need to adjust the potentiometers. These can be found by opening the battery cover and there will be a couple open spaces in the shell next to the triwing screw. There are two small phillips attachments in those holes, one will adjust the upper LCD, the other will adjust the flickering of your lower LCD.

great videos! i think i pinched the ribbon cable when i was putting it back together and it has a crimp in it now. would this make it blip on and off when you try to turn it on?

@flamethrower510 This symptom, right after a top screen replacement, is typically indicative of a Top LCD ribbon cable that is not well seated in the Top LCD ribbon cable connector (the part with the little black latch). Reopen the system and make sure you get that part in correctly.

@wendekelly1 It could, but far more likely is that you don't have the Top LCD ribbon cable seated properly in the small connector with the black latch. Make sure that is all the way in, and don't hesitate to test the system while you have it open with that connection held snug so you can identify the issue.

Thanks for the video! I do have a question though, have you ever come across ds lite systems that after setting the clock and date etc, when it turns off to reboot and come on to play games? It goes back to the setup screen all over again 🙄. Any idea what’s up?

@999fishandchips Yes, if the speakers are not soldered on they will not make a connection and will not work. If you get stuck on this, you can always send it into our repair shop to be repaired by our professional staff.

@superdavecrouch Yep, you likely just don't have the Top LCD connector pressed in all the way in that little tiny ribbon cable connector with the black clip. Don't press so hard you break it, but that thing needs to be all the way in to make a good connection. When the connection isn't good, it acts like there is a short in the system (causing the system to turn off instantly after power on).

I hope you can help me out. I was wondering since my lcd screen will turn on after a lot of jiggling and moving back and forth if it might just be a bad connection at the ribbon cable. Would you suggest that I just order a new screen or check for a bad connection before ordering it?

@TheBlueGuy1000 when you open up a ds lite for repair you have to disconnect a number of other components you may not have properly connected the lcd, which is tricky. We can fix it for you if out is still giving trouble.

I replaced mine and when I put it back together and I hit the power button, the green led light comes on and the bottom screen flickers/flashes on for a micro-second and then all goes dead. I've checked to make sure no contacts on the board are shorting against anything, and it was the best soldering job I've EVER done! It was perfect, and I followed your tutorial to the T. Any suggestions?

@MrZorded Please do send it for repair. It might need replacement of the LCD. The cost is a flat fee of? 54.99 for parts and labor. This would cover both screens if they needed to be replaced.

I have tried to replace the top screen(two of them)and both are white with no graphics, could you please let me know what I can look for to fix this new problem. The rest seems to be good. I had started this a few months ago and I just received new screens for replacement. I do have one part leftover which I cannot seem to find room for. It looks like the slot-2 filler with a green card inside of it(just cannot figure where it goes...thanks

So if the color of the top screen is messed does all 3 of these videos fix it.

Alright, i got it to work but the bottom screen is flickering. Suggestions?

Okay, found a ghetto way to turn it on, remove the power switch shell and use my flathead after I put the bottom case back on to turn it on.... But now it neither screen is turning on. Now what, ugggh Edit: After hours of working on this, I found out early that it wasnt turning on cause my mic wasnt hooked in right. After that I just reassembled it and its up, and finally, my top screen is back. Alot of damn work but worth it, lets just hope nothing else goes wrong, thanks for uploading this.

i have a question. My top screen of my DS has a long thin dark blue line which wont go away no matter what i do. it used a be a small spot and when i left my DS and put it back on it became a lot bigger. will this video help me fix this? please, i need an answer

okay did everything to the "T" it wont turn on - i put the charger on it - I get an orange light for about 2 secs then nothing... Any ideas? Or should I just trash this one and be done with it

@nintendorepair i wet my ds lite and my top screen when turned on had white lines across the whole top screen. i opened it but didnt get new screen just to see if water was inside and wiped the inside with a tissue. when i turn it on now its stays on for 3 seconds and the bottom screen flashes and it turns off again. what so i do?

before i took the battery out my ds worked good except for upper screen then once i put the battery back in my ds would turn on for on second then turn off and its already charged

The power switch part literally "fell off" its like chipped off. No idea how that happened.

Everything was going fine till my power switch wasnt acting right (loose), it doesnt have the spring feel to it anymore. No idea whats wrong but I cant even turn it on right now. Also I could never find a way to wrap up the ribbon cable right, so its like all stiff and made the whole case crooket and wrong, Im tired now, been at this for hours.

buZztiaan is right: one screw is left, but well: my DS works again, even though I had to take it apart again after a first try, because I didn't insert the flatcable coming from the top screen deep enough in the 'thingie'. Thanks a LOT for these videos!
