There is a better permanent solution to this recurring problem with the 1.4 Ltr .... Dorman sells a aftermarket valve cover that comes with a replaceable valve cover diaphragm as it has built into it a little circular cover that twists on and off for easy access to replace the diaphragm for future use... for all Chevy trax and Sonics and cruises and even Buick. Models that have this engine .... your welcome
So far this fix is working well. My 1.4 will turn over 200,000 miles this week. I've done 2 valve covers so far and this fix was much easier and less expensive. If this doesn't last I'll do the Dorman cover. Other than this issue the engine has been perfect.
just did this fix on my chevy sonic. as expected, the cap clung on with unspeakable tenacity compared to what is seen here and didn't come anywhere near so cleanly. got it done though and engine is definitely running better, thanks. i glued the cap on with high temp rtv, hope that holds
Bad non return valve in the intake manifold typically causing the damage to your PCV valve. Damage will repeat soon if not fixed. See service bulletin PIP5197.
Yep, Absolutely correct! Its a bad return valve seal thats causing the PCV to fail. Chevy says figure on replacing both about every 30,000 miles. Hopefully Dorman comes up with a permanent fix for the return valve too.
it is faster, but. 1. cheap chinese Valve Covers only last a year or so. OE valve covers are expensive, around 200$. This way you have an OE cover for 5$
for those without a heat gun, i used a personal/room heater. Propped it up so the pcv area it would sit above the heater fro 5-10 min, then was able to pry it off the valve cover. (The cover was not attached to the car obviously)
Hey bro, what do you think could be causing oil to come out from under the cover? Bad gasket maybe or a forum I seen they mentioned the cam actuator seals? I believe the pcv is bad on mine just not sure why I have oil leaking, more so on the passenger side of the engine.
I would start with a valve cover gasket and replace this diaphram while I was at it. Here is video on the valve cover. Thanks for the feedback. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hSkpvmICDiw.html
Here you go . amzn.to/3dcwMNK Takes a while to get one , they also have them on ebay . I believe the shipping may be somewhat faster. Check engine light has yet to return and the car is running and idling better. Thank you for watching. Thank you for watching.
@@s33therfan thanks I appreciate it and I’m having a issue with my car I gotta 2011 and the pipe that attaches to the throttle body is shaking I been having this issue for a long time I just had a head gasket put in and it’s still shaking I don’t know what’s going on
I've been searching for a video like this for a while and I'm glad I found it. If after replacing this diaphragm and the problem returns in the distant future, can the cap be removed with the heat gun again after having used this epoxy?
I do not know the temperature but I set the heat gun on about 3 and no more. I have melted plastic on the higher settings. But once it is good and heated , it will come off of there. Just keep testing it and once it starts moving you are almost there. Thanks for the question.
Where did you find this kit? Also my 2015 1.4 Cruze kind of wants to turn off on me when I come to a stop, sometimes it start whistling & when I out my finger to cover that pcv hole it whistles even more & the whole car starts shaking! Does that sound like the pcv? I drive a lot so I’ve already replaced my valve cover 2-3 times
If the pcv valve component in the valve cover keeps failing it may be the pcv portion in the intake is faulty. There are 2 options , replace the entire intake or buy the aftermarket kit to do away with the original. Search for chevy cruze aftermarket pcv kits. Also it sounds like this rubber flap is damaged again so I would replace that also. Here is a link for the intake and the pcv cap . Hope this helps. amzn.to/3J9BIQz amzn.to/3NqSAEW
Because of the design of the pcv system it cannot. However they make aftermarket pcv system kits that I believe may allow it to be blocked. Thanks for the feedback.
So is air coming out of it normal? It's not sucking air but it's hissing and blowing air out. Car has rough idle and is a little sluggish upon acceleration. Just put brand new plugs and coil in.
It would be the next step I would take. There is also another component of the pcv in the intake itself , if this does not solve the issue. Thanks for the feedback.
Maybe 2 or 3 minutes . Now that is also on a lower setting , of around 3 . I know with this heat gun anything above that starts to melt and distort plastic , so I am cautious. Great question , thank you.
@@s33therfan 3min is fast. I heated the cover for around 20mins but it still wouldn't come off, even when the top already melted. So I ended up replacing the whole valve cover. After you replaced the diaphragm, did it hold up good? It looks to me that my intake manifold is also dead, which caused the diaphragm issue.
Yes , I agree it is cheaper and a little less work vs removing the valve cover. Silicone and rtv may work , I like the epoxy for the quick set time. Thank you as always for the feedback and thanks for watching.
I can't understand how this setup works. With a non leaking diaphragm, the oil system isn't vented at all. So why is there a cap/spring at all instead of being closed entirely?
Hello, my car is a 2013 chevy cruze LTZ, the problem is that my car turns off, whether it is running or not, and it is intermittent, I have already changed the spark plugs, the injectors, the battery, the air filter and I cleaned the fuel pump and the problem continues, it is possible that Will replacing the PCV valve cover solve this problem?
Check out this video here , it definitely sounds a lot like the issue I had. Hope this helps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pbahvfk0z98.html
That's a great tip , I had thought about how it could be done and was thinking about some threaded pieces. Seeing how this is prone to failure , making it replaceable is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
There should be a class action lawsuit against Chevy for this stupid PCV system that unnecessarily includes both the intake manifold and valve cover in the plumbing. It's literally just a check valve on practically any other vehicle that can be replaced for pennies, even if it was proprietary.
Thanx for the video. Checked my membrane last weekend, it was all good. As was the pcv valve on the intake. Engine keeps making squeeking noise after shut down. Any ideas?
@@s33therfan checked the spark plugs as I read this is not uncommon. And indeed one wasn't tight. Replaced all and torqued them. Issue still there... squeeks for a few seconds after engine shut down grrr
Or, for $20 more, you can just put new cover on and be done in half the time. Most likely you're gonna need new intake as well. Been there done that on this repair.
If the diaphram is good in the valve cover , the next part would be in the intake itself. There are videos on aftermarket kits ( V2 , V3) to fix these pcv issues. Or you have to go the route of replacing the entire intake. Either option is going to be some work . Hope this helps , thanks for the feedback.
that means you have a problem with the red nipple valve inside the intake manifold. Check it out with a flaahlight. If it is gone or broken (it sure is) you have to replace the manifold with a new revised model (expensive) or install Cruze Resque kit cca. 150 usd for life
Whoa seriously! Can you give me a bit more info about this? Just bought a cruze and the intake manifold looks new. But it still has a pcv valve stuck open i believe. @@raducumucu1
Absolutely! If you have any questions I would be happy to help. Here is a video on the valve cover gasket also if you want to check it out. Thank you for the feedback. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hSkpvmICDiw.html
What an absolutely stupid design. It's a part that should be replaced as regular maintenance and they epoxied the cover when a simple retaining clip or screw cap would do. They only nice things about the cruze is that many of its flaws can be fixed by a DIY mechanic and there are plenty of good YT videos to show you how. Thanks!
