That reminded me of when my mom looked up a guide on the internet on how to take apart a PlayStation 2 and clean and put it back together. Mom are always saving the day.
Thank you very much for this step by step video. Piece of cake. Had a tiny issue and that was making sure the plastic patches on the new bumper buttons went behind the little notches on the controller. For the first couple attempts the buttons just didn’t seem to fit perfectly until I realized this. Other than that looks like it’s new again!
This video was hugely helpful, thank you! I just replaced the bumpers on my first elite controller, even got microsoft to send me a replacement controller too. now I have two!
thanks for the video. 100 hours on mine and it busted. I actually found it easier to install the bumpers first so I could align their prongs with the actual buttons; then attach the front piece again. Trying to reattach the two together I had a hard time getting the prongs to go into their respective "channels"
Thanks for this tutorial! I was so bummed that the bumper on my controller broke and didnt know that it was an easy fix. Your video made it so easy to fix!
You hit the nail on the head with your "flawed design" dialogue. I would think that for a controller I paid $150 for, there would be a better system in place. Either way, thank you for this! Super useful video!
I cant belive I paid 120 dollars to get a good quality controller for my PC, and it breaks after 3 months of regular play. Ffs its even bound to happen!? WTF!? Woaw nice design microsoft. All that extra metal parts that I dont even use for the controller could have been used for the tension spring on the shoulder buttons. This controller was meant be a quality prestige controller. Why did they tried to save money on this? This is not budget controller. Im going back to my good 6 year old xbox360 controller. Never had any kind of problem with it.
I am similarly salty, even though mine lasted quite a bit longer. It just makes no sense to use the same flawed design for the shoulder buttons as the standard controller. I just replaced mine, but it has definitely lost some of the tightness of response.
Dang dudes, I was thinking of buying the Elite controller (being $190 in Canada PLUS TAX 13%) for Gears 4. But dang, it sounds like my Halo 5 special edition controller last longer then these "ELITE" controllers (2 Years and running). Having a normal controller still puts me in a disadvantage against other Gears players online. I can't see myself using the claw technique
Ikr. Terrible design, especially with the sticks. They come loose so easily. Pretty sure the design flaws are intentional to get people who don't want to delve into the controller to pay out the ass for another.
I just did the repair as you recommended in the video. There may have been a few moments of rage as I had to force some pieces into place, but overall, all went off without a hitch. Thank you for the informative video, it was most helpful.
Duuuuude you saved me 140.00!!! I clicked on your link to get the kit. I followed your video. And now my RB button is working. I essentially broke the little plastic thing that would click for the RB. I bought new bumpers, and followed this video step by step. Then issue resolved. I wish I can like this 1k Times. Thanks again man.
Man all I can say is thank you so much...Excellent how to video.. I broke mine a few months back an had to go back to a regular controller ... I’m not kidding you when I broke this I was completely crushed until I swear I just bumped into your video... Thank you so much for this an it was real easy to do with your great instructions...Thank u
Thank you, this was very helpful. Finally my controller's right bump doesn't stick anymore. Only part that held me up was putting the face plate back on. I wasn't paying attention to how the bumpers slid into place so they make contact with their little buttons. After that it slid together perfectly. Plays perfect now with no noticeable difference.
They most likely chose to use this flawed design to make more money. Mindless gamers will buy into the fact that it's just a simple problem, when it's much more than that.
I've came back to this video on two separate occasions due to my Elite bumpers wearing out on me twice now. I've also sent my Elite Controller to Battle Beaver Customs and had them replace the thumb sticks that had drift/slow turn. I guess that's not bad considering my Elite controller is around two years old. If I had the money I'd send a new Elite controller to Battle Beaver Customs and have them add smart triggers and replace the paddles with their custom fit buttons on the back. Thanks for the help BBK. 👍🏼✌🏼️
Great Guide! I could no figure out how to put the green wireless sync button back in place and found no guide showing that precise piece. Thanks to your video I could finally figure out what was the original position and finally got everyting back in place. Great great job! thanks a ton!
Thanks worked well. Just a note, the bumpers have a sharp arrow on the underside, this needs to go through a small window to push a button. You cannot simply put the assembly straight back on top and click into place, if those sharp arrows are not in the right place.
I actually ran through 6 elite controllers...glad I didn’t toss them out. Waiting on kit in mail. LB broke on all of them..can’t wait till I receive it. Great video.
Good job, thanks! I've just replaced the bumpers on my controller following this. I did have a bit of a wobble when I'd stripped everything down and I thought, "What have I done to my controller!?", but it all went back togeher just fine. Thanks again.
Good tut; I'm a bit disappointed the shoulders weren't metal, since the controller gives the impression of metal with joysticks/triggers/bumpers/D-pad.
Great video...my son's elite controller is as good as new. One thing I'd say to watch out for is all the magnetic bits in this controller can yank the screws down into the controller if you aren't careful. Thanks again for posting...saved me time and money.
My bumper wasn't even broken. There is a small tab at the tip of the bumper that somehow was bent and catching on another piece, therefore holding the bumper in. This video helped me take apart the controller and repair it, even though I didn't need a new bumper! Thanks for the info
I was trying to beat *Isshin - The Friggin' Sword Saint* in Sekiro when I realized there's actually a problem with the L1 button on my controller. I disassembled the controller as you show in the video, and sure enough that stupid plastic piece had broken on the left side. It's pretty gross to find cheap & very failure-prone construction in such an expensive product. I've ordered a couple new bumper pieces and hopefully one of those will fit & work. Someone on Amazon said the green connect button (on the left side) puts extra stress on this plastic piece & they recommend removing it so L1 doesn't break so fast. I don't know if I'll do that but I'll consider it when I reassemble.
I couldn't fit the triggers properly during the "wiggle" part, took me a few tries until I figured out how they are supposed to slide in in the slits, might be helpful to someone else. Thanks for the video
for me,m it was the piece of plastic that juts out from the bumper to hit it's button that was broken. Not the mid piece. This tutorial fixed it all the same. thanks!
Bbkdragoon you're video saved my controller, thanks so much. Only issue I had on re assembly was when putting the new button assembly on i didnt know the actual buttons were close to the home and the double square buttons and that when placing it back in, I had to line up the and guide it under the little mitch to get it lined up. But in the end I noticed that was the problem when I hit the rb bumper and it was hitting my trigger, I then noticed it wasn't lined up properly, then nailed it.
Thank you thank you thank you! You saved my elites life. The bumpers took a bit to get flush but after watching your video a few times I got it. That green sync button scared the crap out of me when it fell out but it was easily put back into place. Thanks again!
Thank you sooooo much! It was very difficult to put the bumper assembly back on but eventually I got the right angle and the click into place. Took about 5 goes though. So people just be patient and persevere. Thanks again for saving my elite controller BBKDRAGOON!
So good vid. But I seriously don't recommend doing this if you're not screw savvy. I stripped almost all of the screws and am now stuck with a terribly put together controller that doesn't even work. Here's where I went wrong and please, heed this so you can save yourself 250 bucks for another controller. 1. Don't over tighten your screws. Ever. 2. Make sure the battery compartment can fit batteries correctly. I put mine back together with one of the metallic parts of the battery compartment, the one that the battery should rest on (the half sphere), under that portion of the controller. So make sure that's all good and fine before you strip your screws. 3. Make sure your faceplate and front and back are COMPLETELY AND NICELY aligned BEFORE screwing anything in or snapping anything on. 4. And lastly, put every screw in just a tad, so it fits into the grooves and then tighten them all one at a time.
Thanks for the help. However, getting the bumper plastic spring to line up took me quite a while until I actually got it lined up correctly and got the top to click in properly. Once I got the bumper spring lined up and tested the bumpers, it was a breeze.
Super helpful, although all I did was glue the broken pieces back together and then add some E6000 it worked like a glove, free and only took an hour. Compared to spending money and ordering a whole new set. Glue is great!
Thanks so much for making this tutorial video yours is the best one yet! Everything worked out well I'm so happy I didn't have to throw away my $150 generation one Xbox Elite controller. Thanks again🎮👍
If not mentioned before, be careful to keep the small green sync button on the front of your controller in place, it can fall out as well; I put a small dab or rubber cement/ contact cement on mine so it is still replaceable. Also, make sure your bumpers don't have any excess plastic tabs, one of mine did. Furthermore, you'll see some tabs on the back of your bumpers, they go through corresponding slots where the tabs push small button; when done correctly, you'll hear your bumpers click when you press them. Just some small stuff that can make a big difference!! Warranty is only 3 months long for bumpers, and a year for the rest.
So sad playing my yearly run through of Mirrors Edge, and I stopped making my jumps suddenly. Damn bumper broke. This video is still usefull after 1 year and 10 months later. ONE PART hung me up, so if any one else didn't realize this: the LB and RB have a tab that has to go into a slot to properly hit the bumper button inside the controller. My tabs went over the slot, and almost fit, but not really. So if you know that you might not struggle for as long as I did. Back to Mirrors edge proper. Although I do play with jump and slide on the bottom levers as well I do like the original button layout. Big thanks!! Now how do I tighten up a loose thumbstick? Getting a little wobbly and all the videos look like surgery.
Ok, vid was well put together. At it was to make me use the vid as a tutorial; however there are a couple things left out that you should be careful about. 1) The vibrating motors do just fall out (used scotch tape to hold in) 2) The green sync button also falls out very easily. 3) What position should triggers be in for an easier fit? I found that pulling them back helps fit a little easier when fitting the bumpers back in place. That is all.
I just want to say thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was very clear and I used it step by step and put it back together no problem. Just be careful like he says there's a lot of plastic clips that can break. And I also like my bumpers new color!!!!
Thanks man. This video did the trick for me too, I was sad but the original lasted me a year and a half so I'm not complaining. Side note: when seating the triggers the long plastic piece must be tucked behind the other plastic bracket to seat properly
Jason LePage so many people need to read this when they complain that they put it back together and it doesn't work properly. I had the biggest issue with it not realizing it needed to be tucked under and after the 7th time I put it in I was looking in more detail and realized that was the problem. Never would have guessed the physical click of the button was that far in.
I would like to say that this video was very helpful, I too have the same problem on my left bumper. I following instructions on the video to the T and put everything back exact same way how he did the video. Excellent instructions excellent video. Now I have 3 Elite controllers and not to and it only cost me $2
I had a problem where my LB did not respond at all. All I did was smack it with the palm of my hand and it was fixed. I always like seeing these type of vids
My elite was going strong 4 years on then I had to drop it. This vid really helped although not as easy to remove that centre piece. And when putting it back together, keeping that green sync button was a slight pain. But overall I dont think I could've used a better video.
wow so easy to follow, with the way you explain it, absalutely brilliant, and it fixed my boys elite controller he happy now bless him.... great job buddy just gained a sub
This was very helpful. This was exactly what was broken on mine. Like you said, this was a VERY expensive controller to have it break because it's of how horrible the button system is.
Amazing!! Thought I messed it up bc seemed my bumpers werent working, then I noticed i had the configuration on the wrong one 😂😂 it works. I just replaced my xbox elite bumpers with a old xbox controller one. Works perfect.
Hey great video. I just want to comment that I had a problem when separating and reattaching the circuit board to the base in regards to the battery slots. My battery slots got bent and caused a problem with one of the triggers. Needed readjustment. So be mindful. Great video
Thanks dude, I used this video to fix my controller. Funny side note, I just started playing halo again after burning out on overwatch and destiny, and had been watching this great youtuber called BBKDragoon. I just realized you did the video I used to fix my controller and I didn't even notice it at the time :).
Thanks for the video, I think I'm going to have to do this repair soon. A couple of questions, though. In-game, RB seems to be constantly held down. Is this usually what happens? And I have an old, faulty, original Xbox One pad. Will the bumper from that serve as a replacement? Thanks for any advice!
Thanks for the video. The link to the bumper doesnt work anymore, but there are many different colors on Amazon. I was able to save $150 controller with a $10 part in 10 minutes thanks to your video.
Excellent tutorial! This was perfect for walking me through repairing my Xbox Elite controller. FYI I managed to find bumpers by the same company you recommended that match the Elite's bumper colors.
Great video! Question: my controller bumper works but only when it's pressed in a specific spot. Does this sound like it will help my situation? Thanks!
This helped out a ton!!! Thanks! I just had to make a small modification to the bumpers I bought cause they were sticking down, but after that they work perfectly :)
Very well explained, I have problem in Rt, it shoots, but when you slow the trigger you feel a crack, what will be, potncimtro is good will have some other piece of plastic hidden, did not open the conrole because it is very complex, could not you give a class on how to fix Rt? Thank you.
Dude I'm so glad you showed us this, I was so pissed when my left bumper popped off!! Do you or anyone in the comments know if you can use an old controller bumper to replace the elite one? If not well I will have to give amazon some money!! Thanks
Thanks I figured that out this weekend, I had on old Halo 5 controller I used. What's weird is I took apart a launch controller and the bumper setup is spring loaded, I wonder why Microsoft changed a better design?
Thank you so much for the information / tutorial. My son broke the RB bumper on his xbox one elite controller. You are saving me over 150$. Thanks again
I attempted this using two different bumper kits I bought and neither fits. I think there may be something else wrong with my controller. Is there anyone out there who could fix it? I know I'm crazy for asking in the RU-vid comments section but I'm out of options and I simply don't have the time to figure it out. If someone can legit repair my controller, who is it and what's it cost? Edit: Great video btw, I watched several on this topic and you explain it the most simple and effective way.
great video, thank you. i called a local game store and they quoted me $50 for the labor. i immediately hung up and consulted youtube. much better idea to DIY due to the likelihood of it happening again. ~4mo worth of active play, left shoulder button broke and fell out. and i baby the thing.
