How to fix Voicemeeter microphone crackling in Discord

First tutorial I've ever recorded.
To make this a permanent fix, check out Process Lasso!

Here are the steps to fix the issue:
1. Open the Task Manager as an administrator (right-click in Start Menu then Run as Administrator)
2. Select the "Details" tab along the top
3. Find the "audiodg.exe" process and right-click it (note: if you can't see this process, you haven't opened the Task Manager as an administrator, go back to step 1).
4. Set the priority of "audiodg.exe" to "High"
5. Set the affinity of "audiodg.exe" to a single core e.g. CPU 2
6. Repeat this process when you turn on your PC or install Process Lasso.

You can also use a bat file to make the changes he describes in the video. Here are the two commands: wmic process where name="audiodg.exe" call setpriority "Above normal" PowerShell "$Process = Get-Process audiodg; $Process.ProcessorAffinity=1" These commands need administrator privileges to run. If you want to run them on each startup, you need to create a Scheduled Task and tick the box 'run with highest privileges'.

Thank you! I've played with the commands a bit and found, that you for some reason have to set the priority to value to 128 for priority High instead of using "High". To run on CPU 2, one has to use Processor Affinity 4.

@@pixelmaster98 It was honestly just an educated guess that surprised even myself. I'm an IT specialist for work so I have a good amount of IT knowledge. I had a quick search on RU-vid to see if anyone else had found this fix, no one had, so I made a tutorial :)

I had been goin crazy force-ending Dicord and Voicemeeter with task manager, restarting my computer, making sure the wires weren't doing anything funny near the speakers, or re-plugging em, and seemingly randomly doing any of those might fix the issue for like an hour or so at a time, but this just fixed everything easy as. Thank you so much for this, you are a godsend! This got me 99% of the way there. It fixed the crackling, however my audio was still cutting out, it felt like it had some sort of weird noise suppression on it. The fix was disabling the "echo cancellation" setting in discord Voice & Video settings. That solved it. Thank you so much for your help!

Okay so this didn't completely get rid of the lag but it alleviated it a little. But I figured out a way to get rid of it completely. (This worked for me, but of course your mileage may vary) In addition to the steps you lay out in this video, also go into voicemeter settings and instead of using WDM, switch both inputs and outputs to the MME variant. Click hardware input and output for the dropdown menu to select it. Also go into voicemeter settings and change the bitrate of the MME from 1024kb to 2048kb. I now have smooth vocals. I cannot comment on how this will affect your performance, only that this got rid of my issues.

@cas curse sure it's workaround, but since Microsoft did not correct it, it's the only fix for some unexplained problem. I personally think that 95% of Windows Audio problem comes from the audio driver installation process as explained in this topic: forum.vb-audio.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=442 and while this problem is not fixed, Windows Audio will remain unreliable.

@cas curse Discord is doing something that unveil the problem as it is explained in the last 3 messages of this topic: forum.vb-audio.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1077&p=4972 but the initial bug remains in Windows O/S.

@cas curse No, the O/S has no reason to fail, whatever an application does before opening an audio stream. The crackling/choppy stream in Windows (present since VISTA) remain unexplained. Discord app and webRTC are possibly badly programmed, but technically nothing really explain why a stream becomes choppy. anyway i 'm just waiting for Microsoft to correct the main bug regarding audio driver installation, because under WIN10 it's bringing chaos in audio stack: forum.vb-audio.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=442

when im listening my self thru "Sound settings" using Voicemeeter it has no problem but when im speaking on discord or in game my mic has this crackling and robotic sound, will this "fix" affect my computer's performance at all?

Have you tried testing the fix and finding the answer yourself? This is not an easy question to answer because everyone in the world does not use the same hardware and software. I have confirmed no issues from three friends using this fix for almost two months with the following processors: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X. My friends are all heavy daily PC users for gaming and streaming.

This STILL is accurate and up to date. Fixed my issue, at first I thought it was an issue with sample rate and buffer size. Currently running an audient evo 4 interface, and mxl 2006 microphone. Great Tutorial simple and effective.
