The first time I tried to flip the Mino Link on my Trek Fuel EX8 I stripped the bolt, stuffed the link and had to hunt down and fork out for an overpriced proprietary part from Trek to start all over again. Here is my second attempt. Hopefully you can avoid this mistake!

Very helpful, there's very little info about this on the net that I could find. I managed to strip 2 bolts when I first got my Remedy and now keep a spare on me, although I just leave it on the low position these days.

Cheers man! Yeah not much info out there which is why I made this video. I’ve learnt a lot off RU-vid so trying to give a little back.

Nice vid, such a good system on that bike, love the humourous bits 😆

In the 2022 Top Fuel, Trek moved the minolink to just below the shock. It now has only one bolt. I wonder if I need to lock out the shock or something before pulling the bolt completely out?

Is it possible to detach the swing so i can clean and may grease the points where it mooves when i allready have the bolts loosen? Or do i have to remove the dampner so the parts can be seperated?

Recently I flipped this again and there's a washer in between when you take out the mino link and bolt that fell out rolled on the floor keep an eye for that just in case

tried to nip it up with torque wrench and it snapped the minolink token on my carbon trek rail 9.7, but pushed the 2 parts together and tightened it and it worked so got to get another set,really i think this frame could of been built better as i just got a new upper seat stay put on due to snapped sram udh,had to drill the udh out and it wouldn't unscrew.plenty of people are suffering hard over the udh now its minolink replacement.be very careful with doing nip ups on trek rail 2021👍

I've got 2 torque wrenches, high and low Nm, and they only give the desired torque when operating in a clockwise direction. If I switch to anticlockwise, it's fine for undoing stuff but is now just a simple ratchet handle. I broke my bolt as I was unaware it had to be screwed "in" rather than "out".
@virkelie2
@virkelie2 4 года назад
I don't understand. At 2min32sec, you're on the inside of the frame, but it looks like you're torquing the bolt counter-clockwise - am I correct on this? Because from the inside, isn't the thread a normal, right-handed thread? So wouldn't you have had to apply the torque in a clockwise direction, if working from the inside?

I may be seeing things wrong.
@thetrailawaits2353
@thetrailawaits2353 4 года назад
@@virkelie2 Yeah I think the camera angle makes it a bit confusing. I'm adjusting the bolt closest to me from the inside so I'm torquing it clockwise. It looks like I could be doing the other one but you'll see when I remove the tool which one it is. Hope this helps.

Which would you recommend to reduce pedal strikes?
@thetrailawaits2353
@thetrailawaits2353 3 года назад
When I first moved to the low position I got some unexpected pedal strikes but within a couple of rides I adapted and it wasn't a problem. I wouldn't make that the deciding factor. I just found the bike was much more nimble in the high position so I prefer that. However, If you are in the low position and are struggling with pedal strikes, switching to the high position will help.

i snapped my bold with 17nm on my 2019 fuel ex 9.8. try it with less torque
@thetrailawaits2353
@thetrailawaits2353 4 года назад
Man that sucks! Did you use grease? Sometimes that can cause a bolt to over torque.
@erichbachman7363
@erichbachman7363 3 года назад
Hell yeah man! I snapped three bolts in a row! They make these out of pot metal i guess... Broke before 12nm even! I have paid like 60usd for a totat of five bolts, love this so much!

I just bought a 2021 Fuel Ex 5 and was baffled why my mino link looked round. Then I found this comment and realised it's on the inside! :D
@thearoom

@@lanapearce9968 Yeah it's much easier than I thought to change it .. I bought a spare cuz I was worried but don't think I'll really need it and I used the loctite just in case .. I ended up keeping it on high The bikes a little more spunky if that helps.
@lanapearce9968

@@thearoom Thanks for the advice, on purchase it's in the low position so I'll try that for a week or so and then try the high position to see which suits me better. At least I know how to adjust it now though, Trek's site didn't have any clear instruction.

NM is Newton Meters...also way too cringy seeing the top tube clamped in the stand.
@thetrailawaits2353
@thetrailawaits2353 3 года назад
Good call on Newton, it’s named after him for a reason, credit where credit is due. As for the top tube clamp, my bike is XXL, otherwise know as enormous. I can’t clamp the seat post and get it to a reasonable height without it toppling over. I should have put a trigger warning in the title, hope you’re ok.

@@thetrailawaits2353 I bought the EX8 with the XXL frame too. It was the only bike I found that was right for my size. Shopping for a bike with a big frame is a real pain in the ass.
@thetrailawaits2353
@thetrailawaits2353 3 года назад
@@eckat6041 it sure is but on the upside it’s easier to choose because the options are so limited. It was this or a Santa Cruz and my pockets weren’t that deep. Lucky this is killer bike!
