Today we will learn how to float on your stomach without dumbbells!!! This is the last lesson before moving on to gliding, and to actuall swimming!
Please forgive me for the quality of this video. It was getting dark when I filmed it. I tried to lighten it up, but it made my face look red. Nevertheless, the information here is important.

I will try bending knees technique the next time I go to the beach to see how this helps me to stretch out flat only stomach on the water.

hello!!!! thanks for the short lesson.but i am still having a problem with my legs...they sink when trying to float.i also wanted to ask if we arch our back.and what should be the position of our hands?? facing forward or sideways.thank you!!

Hello Allan. Thank you for your comment. I am glad my video was helpful. In swimming, your back should almost never be arched. If your back is arched, it means that your abdominal muscles are relaxed. Correctly contracted abs, gluteus, and upper back muscles are the ones that will keep your body in a streamline position and will keep you afloat. That is why in most of my videos I keep asking to contract those muscle groups. For your legs to come up to the surface, you need to REALLY contract your gluteus muscles (buttocks) without arching your back. This video will be helpful for practicing correct muscle contraction: “Adult Swim Lesson. Dry Land Exercises For Practicing Streamline Position For Swimming” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h26CjFpVqVs.html Also, play with the position of your arms, try to bring them overhead or toward your thighs and see how it affects the position of your legs. Your palms should be facing toward the bottom, the way I show it in the video, however, play with it and see what works best for you. I am glad you are learning how to swim, ENJOY the process!!!

Here is another exercise where you can practice contracting your gluteus muscles to bring your heels to the surface: “Adult Swim Lesson. Strength Exercise For Balancing In Water. Exercise 3” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5BOS_HuieVg.html This exercise seems easy, however, if you do not contract your buttocks super hard, your feet will stay under water. Keep practicing!!! Please let me know how it goes.

One more thing you can try doing to help your legs go up is tucking your chin in to look down at the bottom of the pool. Did any of my suggestions work for you?

I am just a beginner. Only 4 days left since i joined my class. I can float but loosing balance when i try to stand on my feet after floating.i have a lumber disc prolapse,is it becoz of that? Can u plz help me by pointing out the mistake that i am probably making? Will u plz make a video on this balance issue?

When I swim breaststroke my hip and legs always go down and they are not on the surface. This makes it difficult to come out for breath. How do I keep my hip and legs on the surface?

If you still struggle with this issue, it means that your body needs to be more prepared for swimming (core muscles). I suggest to practice exercises from this playlist: Strength Exercises In Water For Balance And Swimming ru-vid.com/group/PLlni5Zb5tjJmib-12WS1zD7KncCryC3pp Exercise number 3 will be most helpful, if you practice all of them. Also, work on your streamline position. You might want to watch my Open Water playlist, too. Of course, if you have health issues, please, talk to your doctor, first.

In these videos my eyes are closed under water. I find it unnecessary to expose the eyes to the chemicals in the pool. Even in Synchronized Swimming athletes use goggles while training. Thank you very much for your suggestion!!! I will think about making a video about this topic.

How it is happened it looks easy to you to float all the way ,My instructor try to do me that but im sinking all the way in the buttom of the pool

Not everyone has the same buoyancy. I am very buoyant (here, I also wear a 3mm wetsuit that adds to buoyancy even more) You might want to look at my playlist that deals with floating. If you are a complete beginner, please start with these exercises: First Steps to Swimmingru-vid.com/group/PLlni5Zb5tjJn7jCl1Senai_MSqN6s7hGp Do everything in the shallow end. In exercises, where you have to put your face in the water, you can close your eyes if you are wearing goggles. Another thing you can do is to try your lesson again but don’t wear goggles.

Pinky Rawool, I am glad my videos were helpful. Ok, then try doing your swimming lessons without goggles. This way you will not see how far from the bottom you are. In my open water lessons that I filmed this summer, I had a similar issue with my client. Taking goggles off helped a lot.
