Great job! I needed a perfect video on how to do this. Trick on those clamps is to slide them down the rubber hose and don’t take them off. Just grab the two sides of the clamp with pliers and slide down the pipe. Also, I would suggest (if no one else has already without me reading all the comments) to cover the alternator with a plastic bag so the fluid doesn’t drain right into it. You did an amazing job! Thank you.

Get yourself the tool that is made just for those types of clamps, it's a great tool, and prevents SOME cursing. At any rate, your right, those clamps are a real pain to deal with at times. Ecspecially when they are facing a direction that doesn't allow you to get at them very well. Great work though! I've seen enough of your DIY videos to tell you that I'd let you wrench on my vehicles anytime, and I won't even take them to any shops! I work with mechanics that are FAR less skilled/efficient as you appear to be. Keep up the GREAT work!

Back in the day I hated those spring clamps as well till I found out the hard way. The originals are self tensioning. My replacement my gear clamps leaked and required to give them a tweak as the hose got soft after heat up or as it aged. I always use the OEM spring clamps as much as I can, even know they can be a hassle.

After adding the distilled water, did you run the engine to temp with the heat on max to get the old coolant out of the engine and heater core? I've always hated trying to flush the whole system. Gotta wonder what people's mechanic's are doing? Still enjoy watching you work after all these years!! Hope it's still fun for you as well?

Why wasn't the radiator refilled with distill water, turn on heater and allow water to circulate through the heater core? Drains and refill with at least 2 more gallons of distilled water...THEN ADD pure one gallon of coolant and slow it to mix with distilled water in block? Top off with the 50/50 or 60/40 mix....

The belt tensioner bolt torque is 14-18ft-lb according to Mazda's service manual, thermostat housing bolts 6-8.5ft-lb.
@Graham_Langley
@Graham_Langley 8 лет назад
And a pro tip: Due to the way the hoses run it purges the air on refilling better with the header tank side a bit higher than the other.

Great job! I would be concerned that you drained a green coolant and added back a pink coolant. Mixing coolant types is not a good idea for it can cause the mixture to do bad things. You may be ok but I would have run several cycles of distilled water through to completely get rid of the green stuff then use 100% concentrate to ensure your final mixture is 50/50 or what ever you want. Need to know the drained amounts and the total calcite to really know the final concentrate amount. Suffice to say you must use 100% to get it anywhere near 50/50. Thanks for posting!

I thought you at least need to get the engine running and turn the heater on when you put the distilled water in. Otherwise, the water won't get to all parts of the cooling system. It means the flush isn't complete.

@GrimYak
@GrimYak 6 лет назад
Good enough, but what i do is drain, put distilled water back in, let it run till thermostat kicks in amd open the heater to circulate through the heater core. Drain again. Do at least twice, then fill up with 50/50.

Hey, I did a change in my 2010 Mazda 3 how long does it take before fans come on after change. Heater works fine. Engine runs great. Problem is that after 10 mins fans did not come on. Plus I don't have a temperature gauge. I just have a blue and red warning light
@macfady2181
@macfady2181 4 года назад
You've probably solved this by now but it's possible the fan isn't working and throwing the light. The fan only comes on if accessory cooling is needed. However, the fan should always come on when you turn on the A/C, that's the best way to see if it actually works.

1) Drain coolant from cold car 2) Remove tensioner to gain access 3) remove thermostat & old gasket/oring 4) flush out engine with distilled water 5) replace thermostat and gasket/oring 6) rebolt on tensioner and belt (replace if worn) 7) fill system with correct 50/50 coolant and burp system (turn on heat to full blast, turn engine on and let the water pump push air out) 8) when you don’t see any more air coming out of overflow tank, close it and drive around the block for 10-20 minutes and make sure your car doesn’t over heat.

I need to swap out my thermostat on my Speed 3. There are plenty of Mazda 3 thermostat replacement videos. Not one good MS3 (or MS6 for that matter) thermostat video. Why? Closest i found was a CX7 with MZR 2.3L DISI. Similar but not the same. CX7 has more room and slightly different layout.

I saw you have green coolant before.... You still have the green glycol inside the engine, you have to completely flush the engine to remove all the old coolant because you don't want to mix green crap with the pink Asian coolant
@Sarm-mx6qy
@Sarm-mx6qy 6 лет назад
ProRockJK Why? What will happen if they mix?
@61hink
@61hink 5 лет назад
A little confusion here for me too. Not supposed to mix colors. Green is ethylene glycol based. She said the pink was too, but I didn't think it was.
@femalegarage
@femalegarage 7 лет назад
I think that flushing the cooling system doesn't make much sense the way you did it. It's better e.g. to fill the system with water, start the car, let the engine run for a while, stop it, let it cool and drain it.

No blood? You must be doing something wrong... (In replacing "those clamps") I find grinding the inner tang/stop off allows the clamp to be held open that extra mm with the vicegrips for what it's worth, while trying to reinstall clamp on (new) hose. Using a silicone hose? Be sure to use a smooth inner, clamp "for" silicone hoses...
