Curious about how to forge a copper bowl? Follow me through the day as I'm dong some copper bowl making! I hope you enjoy this video on raising a copper vessel.
Forging copper is something I do frequently. I love copperwork, so making a copper bowl is no big deal to me. I'll be sharing a video soon on how to forge copper rose also. Copper bowl making is alot of fun, and I think you'll enjoy it too!
I have copper bowls for sale on my online marketplaces. I've made a copper bowl fountain (or more of a very large birdbath rather). I've had a couple of request for a copper bowl sink. I occasionally sell a copper bowl set online, as I offer them in three different sizes.
Copper forming is a type of metal art. Copper forming can be almost addicting, once you get the hand of it! I've been doing copper work for years, and making copper art is one of my favorite things!
Hammered copper bowls make lovely home decor. My copper finishing skills are top notch.
The bowls are formed by raising copper, in metal working terms. Forming copper requires several heats for annealing copper.
My video is similar to the copper bowl video made by cookingfordads (cooking for dads).

The bowls came out great. Home made items are much better then buying them at a retail store. keep up the great work, love watching the videos.

I wouldn't stress too much about putting music over it, or atleast make it quiet :) I'd suggest a voiceover during the sped up sections to narrate what you're doing while you're doing it. What do the clients usually use such shallow bowls for? The square one looks like the old ashtray's I remember my parents having without the cigarette grooves.

Thanks Joe, I do like your suggestions for adding a voice over. The movie making software that I'm using currently doesn't have the feature for voice over or music, but I plan on getting some within the next couple of months that has all the bonus features. My bowls are mostly ceremonial. Sometimes they are used to hold candles, keys, or the like though.

What editing software do you currently use?

Adobe Premier Clip for the phone. Just trying out some new things. Prior to this, we've just been using windows movie maker on the computer.

I can't find anything on adding audio tracks with premier clip, but movie maker you can. Saves you having to buy new software.

Nice work.... What thickness of copper plate did you use? Please don't add music to your videos... shop sounds and Narrations are a much better choice. Thanks for the video...

I like your copper bowls I have just started watching and would love to see you make a bowl out of copper using your oak leave bowl pattern I have been messing with copper and have tried on but not happy with how it came out would love to see your take on one

Beautiful products, where do you sell those? I know you said you're on Ebay, but not where and how they ordered one of those bowls

I"m a new sub, at 6:00 you stressed hearing protection can't agree more, been a custom cabinet maker for thirty 30 years running loud machines mostly no protection and now I can not keep up with a conversation, with some people it is impossible to communicate with and the damage is permanent not even the latest technology will help me now.

Fantastic looking products, one question for you, guys : if you use copper pot/pan for cooking food, is it a must that the surface coming in touch with food is nickel plated, and if so how to nickel plate just the the inside of the pan/pot(I can't imagine anything else as doing electrolysis inside the pot but that is probably wrong anyway), looking forward to read your answer, kind regards!

+Miki Dominko when using copper to cook any food that is acidic it is necessary to line the inside of the pot or pan. Otherwise it can be bad for your health. As far as tinning goes I have not been able to learn that process yet. Thank you for watching and commenting! God bless

@3:00 what gauge is your copper, looks fairly stiff 16ga?
@ChristCenteredIronworks

The copper I usually use is 10ga or 1/8" :-) in the video most likely it was 10ga.

I didn't realize copper dust is so dangerous or is it the dust from the oxidation on the surface? I usually only wear a mask.

while music over the time lapse would be nice, I'd prefer a narrative explanation as to the processes and procedures during said lapse.

also, have you ever forged aluminum? I'm just trying to get some understanding of how other blacksmiths feel about the material, as I want to make convention legal non ferrous armor.
@ChristCenteredIronworks
@ChristCenteredIronworks 7 лет назад
+daemonxblaze Thank you for the feedback it seems that the general consensus is narration over music so that is what I plan on doing. :-)

+daemonxblaze aluminum is very easy to work with if you find the right grade. Aluminum comes in a lot of various types. I've worked with machine grade aluminum and it doesn't work out very well for forging. If you can find flat sheets it will work great for you.
@daemonxblaze
@daemonxblaze 7 лет назад
thanks! mostly what I'm working with is reclaimed aluminum (melted down cans, so 3104-H19) is there a way I can reduce the amount of manganese dioxide emissions from annealing the metal?
@ChristCenteredIronworks
@ChristCenteredIronworks 7 лет назад
daemonxblaze not that I know of... I'm sure there is something on that with a quick google search. other than that just work with it in a well ventilated area and do as much as you can cold.

This might be how a blacksmith forges a bowl but no where is the raising method being used. All shaping of the bowl was by the sinking method. Further more you should pickle the copper after it is annealed to remove the oxidation. The oxidation will produce powder when being hammered and that is when you should be wearing a respirator. Metalsmiths actual have a formula for figuring out what size copper piece. makes what size of bowl.

+Warren Townsend sounds like you have all the answers thank you for your comments.. have a great day😊

Sheer ignorance to say that he should wear a respirator while hammering because of powdered oxidation but not when using abrasives. So the fine powder from the oxidation is bad but the fine dust being abraded off is not? I'm glad you took time out of your day to act all pompous about how this is "only sinking" and not raising. Furthermore, furthermore is one word, not "further more".

You do make good work though, I'm glad to see that you have a lot of experience to back up your comment. I may have been a bit too ornery.
