We're forming and pouring a massive concrete slab for a garage.
This slab is 60' x 50' and is 6" thick with the edges thickened to 12".
We get hired to install a lot of garage slabs, but most are smaller two car garages.
This concrete slab is extra large and took a lot of concrete to finish.
The key to pouring larger concrete slabs is to have a plan on how to pour the slab so the finishing process goes smoothly.

I've been watching you videos for several years. I'm going to pour a very similar slab, 80x100, hopefully this summer. This video is going to be helpful, thanks

Hey Mike, appreciate these videos and all info you share. 3rd yr apprentice in Pacific Northwest Carpenters Union. Going to get licensed and learn to do this for myself and my family. Need to get finishing under my belt though, we hire finishing companies. Thanks again this stuff is great!

Nothing else you can do but put the time in and learn it. There's no shortcuts to being a good finisher unfortunately. I've been trying to shortcut teach new guys for years. It doesn't work. They just end up being mud pullers at best.

took me a couple years to really fully understand finishing concrete. it's just one of those things that is best learned by doing it. I had a hard time with people trying to tell me how to do it, you just learn the feel of it

Mike I have worked in many different shops over the years and I can really appreciate the fact that you take the time to make the shop floors as flat as a pool table. I realize how important level is from years of working in places where The equipment all needs to be drastically shimed up and there are so many other issues as well.

This is how you do a job without skipping any steps or cutting corners. 10/10 work man. Just found your channel this morning from a comment you left on victory. I do concrete in canada. Our concrete is nowhere as nice as yours but we do our best with what we got hahah

My crew has been on a series of 2×10 turndown, house foundation slabs for a good while now, all in the same little housing development here in good ol Dublin GA, so I definitely feel your pain on how heavy these damn boards are. Especially the treated ones, which is what we use normally since they last a lot longer out in the elements. We also drive wooden stakes with a sledgehammer, with kickers to form them and the dang dirt is hard as a freaking brickbat lately because we've had a lot of dry weather. It's calling for mid to upper 90s next week so pray for us Mike. 🙏

I think I spoke to soon. You used fiber mesh as well. Did you everything, fiber mesh, rebar and wire because the slab was so big? Also on something this big, being a garage, what is your opinion on putting floor drains in? And what type would you use as well as placement of them.

Hey Mr Mike could I use some old chain link fence in place of the rebar in a small 4ft wide wrap around addition to my shed slab? It does not have to be super strong it will not be driven on just foot traffic and I am in the Deep South so we don’t see freezing temps very often.
@juliussk
@juliussk 2 года назад
Any wire 1/8 in Diameter or better will be sufficient for this. Alternatively you could use 6x6 wire mesh. Mainly because the fence is only strong in onedirection

What’s he parking in there a Sherman tank? Lol. 12” thick with fiber and 4000 psi. Overkill to the max which is awesome 👏

@@rh-pr3hs this is after the concrete has been poured. I was wondering if they is a chemical which you add to the concrete whilst mixing it before pouring it.

Yes, can't do that everywhere tho. I'm in northern Indiana and there's a square footage limit on monolithic pours. Basically tho everything has to be below frost line here.

Well you do a 60 by 50 can you do a 50 by 2600. Well my garage is going to be a 40 by 60 and my house is going to be a 30 by 110. Now I mention about that one the driveway is 16 ft wide and 350 ft long she the one date then there's roughly about 50 feet past the gate and then then you talk about a slab 50 feet from the place and all around the house and behind the garage. Yes I know it's a lot of concrete

4000 concrete will crack more than 3500. Why? Because there’s more concrete in it. Exbit A. bend a pencil, bend a piece of paper. 1700 lb concrete is strong enough to hold anything he puts in there. 4000 lb concrete is the finishers friend because it sits up faster and it’s creamer to finish. 4000lb is super nice, I just tell them up front that 4000 may crack more but so what isn’t a saw cut just a big crack in a straight line....

Why in the hell are you not using at least a 3/8 rebar on 2ft centers???
