How to pour, finish, and saw concrete for a garage floor.
This video shows us on a new construction garage floor pour. We were hired to place and finish the concrete floor for this 30' x 24' garage.
My part on this job was to provide the concrete and labor to install the concrete floor. The builder, who hired me, was responsible for the prep and what you see is what he wanted.
I did use fibermesh reinforcement in the concrete as well as a 4000 psi mix.
The new garage floor was sloped three inches towards the garage door openings. When you pour concrete and slope it as we're doing, it holds it's shape very good as long as you don't pour too wet.
After power troweling the concrete smooth, we sawed contraction joints using our green cutting concrete saw. This helps control shrinkage cracks that otherwise usually occur if you don't saw joints.

I'm not paying someone to carry on phone conversations when there is work to be done. A friend of mine has a saying that applies to some people, "Don't do anything you can get someone else to do". Tia is someone to emulate. Conscientious and a hard worker. I would hire her to run a crew down here in Georgia.

I'm from England in the uk 🇬🇧 and would hire tia in a heartbeat ! She works hard and knows what she is doing and is always doing something, same as the two guys you've had with you for years, awesome gang of workers who all know what each other is doing and never have to tell each other what to do 👏👊 as for that temporary worker ! We'll where do i start 🤔 don't use your phone while working unless it's an emergency, don't sit around while others are working, and when you are working then show some willingness to actually do some work and not just make half hearted effort !! Sorry to say this but you didn't need him because you, Darren and tia done all the work anyway ! If it was me I would tell him his services aren't required anymore mike ! I can tell you this Mike, I would hire Tia before I hired the guy on the phone, she out worked him all day, and I didn’t really see him do too much, after the placement I would of let him go, I realize he had to make those calls, but he didn’t carry his weight for you, good thing he’s temp help. And yes, I wish I had 3 Tia’s for the last three years where we have been working, kids don’t have that ambition, or pride anymore. Nice job again.

After watching Tia and your temporary worker, I’d hire Tia over the temp worker. Every time she’s In front of the camera I see her working where as I never really see the other guy doing much. Ya guys like him are professional slackers, they do just enough to not get fired. And when they cross the line and get fired they act shocked. My rule, no phones while we are working unless your wife is expecting a baby any day. You sound like a great guy Mike, I would work for you if I lived in the area. I also love having my kids work with me, it's the best.

The guy on the phone shouldn't be there. Not because of the phone, but because he didn't strike me as a jump into the action guy. He was a good watcher. If I were him, I would go nuts because I didn't have something to do. I would suggest a profit sharing. The time spent is a huge factor in how much you make. When you have effective employees, your profit will encrease. So at the end of the year give a bonus when the company does real well. It is obvious that Darren and Tia have a handle on what gets the job done. It is real hard to find great people. Reward them.

Float blades and combos do get stuff very flat but there a pain lol combos for the win! As long as there a fresh set you can do just a nice floor without the hassle of swapping blades around just my opinion awesome job

Mike, on a RV garage in the planning stage -- What would be a good unit to use for "slope to drain" from back of the garage to the doors? I did a google search using the terms "garage floor slope degree?" and it came up with anywhere between an 1/8" per foot to a 1/2" per foot. At 34 feet of run at 1/2" per foot that would be 17 INCHES from back to front? That seems pretty extreme to me? Especially since I am thinking of having a 16" concrete "stem wall" above the floor for the 12 foot walls to sit on.

Sometimes calls are important, like family member in trouble etc. So talk to the new employee tell them the do's and don'ts that way they know what's what. If they do it again then make the decision...

I would ask what the phone call was about and let him know unless it's life threatening there's no phone when the concrete truck is there. Cmon man. I would decide to relieve him based on his response. He's old enough and should know better. But it may have been really important. I doubt it but you never know. He needs to be trained and told what's expected of him. Kind of the odd man out since you 3 can do it on your own. Your daughter is a great worker. Well done DAD.

I would change the head on that paddle. Get your ratchet head and she can just twist the handles to articulate the bull float, and she won’t have to keep raising the lose handles up like this video shows.

I never could understand the mentality of the laborers on their phones. We all know you’re not important enough to need to be on it, no offense to any laborers but it’s the truth. I don’t mind a call or text every once in a while but the ones on it every day, many times a day just need to be fired

phone is a huge pet peeve for me, not just being a boss, as a co-worker I hate that I'm working and the other guy's just on the phone. Even with friends, when we hang out they could be on their phone all the time, worse is when I'm mid sentence and they just look down to text cuz they just received a text. When I'm out with friends or working, I ignore my phone until it is appropriate to use it. I would give one, and only one warning, then fired. Obvious exceptions for emergencies or anything of urgent nature.

I have to say I've had to be the bad guy before and let people go the same day they start . Some come on site and their interview they give a bunch of crap about how they've done this and that . I don't know the guys circumstances you do , so he may have had something going on we don't know about but you do . That said Its your call !
