Hello Mrs Marika, welcome to our community and the channel mam!! Yes mam we shonuff like some purple hull peas over here and I reckon I've never seen White Acre Peas, I need to give them a look!! Thank ya for watching mam, have a great week!! Dan
Hey Dave, purple hull peas have to be my favorite!! Them peas will last a long time in the deep freezer after I vacuum seal them!! Thanks for watching sir!! Dan
Love those peas. I shelled and put up 5 quarts this week. I didn’t blanche them. Those “floods” that we are getting are helping the garden out a ton. Til’ next video!
Thank ya for watching sir!! I need the rain over here something fierce, I've been getting intermittent rain showers!! have a good weekend my friend!! Dan
They look good Dan I never had them before but freezing is a great way to preserve them. I freeze everything bread, cookies, fruit and they last along time in the freezer. Have a great weekend Dan
Yes mam, these are some fine eating peas for sure!! I like to freeze a bunch of things as well, specially purple hull peas lol!! Thank ya for watching mam and you have a good weekend as well!! Dan
Thank ya for watching and commenting Katie Gay, welcome to our community and the channel mam!! No mam I didn't ice bath those peas, I just let them cool in the pot and then bag them up!! I like a certain texture to my peas, that's why I let them cool in the pot but an ice bath would work as well and thank ya for bringing that up!! I preciate ya stopping by the channel, have a good rest of the week!! Dan
Mr Dan ! You got peas ! That is awesome man... I am glad ya got your hands on some ! They look fantastic ! I gotta get out and get mine picked... I am loving your bling wear ! Thank ya brother ! Do the PHP swell up when ya blanch em and let em sit in the hot water when they fresh like that?
Yes sir, I was wearing that shine wear brother!! Buddy of mine plants 50 acres of PHP's, so he hooked me up with a shelled bushel!! The peas do swell some but nothing too noticeable. I vacuum seal the bags and put them in the deep freezer, they stay good for a long time!! Thank ya for watching bro!! Dan
Is this pea something that is a southern grown pea? I had never heard of it before. Looks like they would be good and filling. Thanks again for sharing.
Hey Mr Mark, yes sir, as far as I know it's a southern grown pea, I've sent some to Bumble Bee Junction and the4hearts ranch and they are growing really well for them!! It's a fine eating pea for sure!! Thank ya for watching sir and you have a good weekend!! Dan
Thank ya for watching brother Keith!! I've commented several times on your comments my friend, email me at homeinthesticks@gmail.com. Can't send you mail if I don't know where to send it too!! Dan
Very awesome very informative. This weekend Im going to make a video of the lights you showed and show my setup. Love your video and have a great weekend.
never seem them don that way before I use the ice water method and sucking the air out of the bag with a straw and getting all the water I can out of the bag .I use qt. bags (enough for a few meals) .I start with a pot of boiling water and put my peas in a strainer bring to a second boil approx 5 minutes insert strainer in ice water instant cooling then bag and put in deep freezer..
Hello John W and welcome to our community and the channel!! I've tried the method that you described before and it has worked good!! I like to blanch my peas for a few minutes, let them cool and then freeze them, I ate some peas last week that were from 2017!! Thank ya for watching and do come back and visit the channel when ya can, have a good week sir!! Dan
Yes mam, it's a sure enough good feeling but I hate it when I eat them all and I can't get any more purple hull peas to next summer lol!! Thank ya for watching my friend!! Dan
I got the gist of how you do yours but once you go to cooking them to eat how long do you cook them for? I grew up on canned peas and only tried growing sugar snap peas this year. I never knew there were so many different peas lol! Thanks for sharing this :-)👍
Thank ya for watching brother!! When I'm ready to cook them peas, I add them to a boiler with a bit more water, season them with some Tony's, onions and bacon. I normally let them cook another half hour or so. Purple hull peas are eaten differently her in the Sip from what I've noticed, the peas are almost stewed down if that makes sense!! Dan
I love eating my favorite summer produce in the winter. How do you eat the peas? Your bags looked a little full. I hope they don't bust when they expand.
Hey Mrs. Mags and thank ya for watching mam!! I normally cook the peas done a bit more and season them with onions, bacon and Tony's seasoning!! Add some cornbread and that's a meal!! Dan
Well this is a new way for me. I tend not to blanch just cause it’s one more step but beans and peas I do because it helps stop them from repeating on ya later! LOL I’ve also never seen them frozen in liquid after. Just blanch, drain, seal ‘em up. You are teaching me stuffs Mr. Dan! I just ordered me some pink eye purple hull seeds. Never grew them before but I am gonna try! My poor gardens been a mess the last couple days cause I got a stomach bug and been down for two days! UGH 😑 If that’s not bad enough I go out today just to look a bit cause I still feel kinda icky and something done killed my squash and watermelons! I’m so sad! :( Dang critter sucked the vine dry as a bone at the main branch at dirt level! Idk if that’s a vine borer or I seen a couple cicada holes close by. Idk! Heartbreaking though. Hope alls well with you and y’all! God Bless ~Lisa
Thank ya for watching mam and gracious, I hope ya get to feeling better Mrs Lisa!! There are a bunch of different methods of preserving peas, I've done it this was for a long time and never had any problems!! All I do is pull a bag out, get them in a lil more water, season them peas, add some bacon and let them cook to the desired tenderness!! Dan
Hey Dan! Man I love purple hull peas!! I remember being a little girl about 9 years old and we took mamaw to her sisters in Louisiana and we helped pick 4 bushels of them then had to peel em all! It was work lol but man were they good! I've lived them ever since! Thanks for sparking a wonderful memory Dan! Hope you enjoy those peas and have a bowl for me! Luv ya! CG
Dan! You didn't blanch those peas you cooked 'em! You only need to boil them about 3 min then put the pot in an ice bath to cool 'em off quick. I grew up on a 🚜 a plowin', plantin', pickin', shellin' & eatin' them Mississippi Pink Eye Purple Hull Peas!! They're fabulous
Thank ya for watching Mrs Glenda and this is how I've done my peas for the last 25 years lol!! The longer the blanch, the shorter the cook time on the peas. You may eat your peas a bit different then I do consistency wise!! Dan
Home In The Sticks Oh, I see they'll cook faster! I wish I had a few bags of em in my freezer. You'd be hard-pressed to find a pink eye purple hull here on the Jersey Shore
Thank ya for watching mam!! I just like to add the liquid I blanched the peas into the bag so when it comes time to cook them, I won't have to add much water to the pot!! This can be done either way, with or without liquid. Dan
Peas, purple hull peas, And you're wearing a "BUMBLE BEE JUNCTION TEE-SHIRT?" LOL Looks like you need "GET YOUR SHINE ON." TEE-SHIRT. How about it Big DAN? :-)
Thank ya for watching and commenting etm567, welcome to our community and the channel!! There's several methods of blanching peas and I've done it that way as well as you've stated, both ways have worked good for me!! Preciate ya stopping by the channel!! Dan
