Gaining weight is not an easy process. It's also not something that every hooper (or even most players) should do. I take you through deciding if you SHOULD gain weight, and then how you can pack on some weight if you decide that you need to.

Some interesting info for you hoopers: Average nba player has a BMI of 24 Average nfl CB has a BMI of 27 Average nba player has a standing vertical of 28 inches. Average nfl CB has a vertical of 36 inches. More weight isn't going to slow you down if you put it on with the right training. Specialised muscle cells will INCREASE your vertical and speed not reduce it.
@SniperKicks
@SniperKicks 4 года назад
vinuzo Yes but football is a short burst sport. Basketball you are continuous doing cardiovascular activity. Therefore, basketball players body have to be structured differently. Yes football players have higher verticals in combine BUT basketball players are CONSTANTLY jumping and are better at jumping for longer and at different positions.

@yaab4845
@yaab4845 4 года назад
Well they don’t have to play 80-100 games a year. You can’t just compare players that play different sports to support your argument. Nba players should train to be mobile, explosive, durable athletes. Lean, high quality muscle mass is the way to go. Just look at the best nba players and their body composition

imma just add my input on the topic: i’m a 5’9 pg, went from 147 to 158 of mainly muscle over a 4 year span. mainly muscle and never letting apart basketball specific nor athletic training. it’s been a long ride but my game has greatly improved because of that added muscle and athleticism (lotta and-1s). its worth mentioning that im more of a shifty point guard, always trying to take advantage of that first step.

Just want to further elaborate on the ice bath topic. Ice baths or cold water soaks are shown to assist in fatigue and recovery from cardiovascular exercise or high intensity interval training. What he is referring to in the video is aimed towards strength training and heavy weights. Ice baths can supposedly hinder the development of muscle after said workouts due to lessening the inflammation thats occurring from stressing your body with heavy loads/weights. That inflammation process is whats causes are body to adapt to the stresses we put it under and grow stronger.

Just make sure you're working out still and training because you will need to get used to your new body weight and strength. Great video. In my opinion the best thing to do is body recomposition, not necessarily adding a lot of weight. Like he said with the 5 lbs of strength. Juts eat good, workout a lot, build up the strength, sprint and play hoops, and lose some of the fat. You'll be in the best shape of your life and will feel great. Gaining 10lbs of lean muscle and losing some fat is much better than gaining 20lbs of muscle and 10-15lbs of fat. Ironically you'll look even bigger that way despite weighing less because you will be cut.

My son broke his thumb on his right hand, he had no choice but to use his weak hand. we took those 6 weeks to work on strengthening his Left hand, dribbling in place ( 300 dribbles daily) dribbling while walking and while running (30 minutes a day) stationary dribbling drills and left hand hand lay ups. The results were were amazing!
