Especially at higher levels, defenders will make it harder and harder to get your jumper off. So, adjustments HAVE to be made. I went through a rundown of some keys to getting that shot off--check it out and let me know what you think...

Keeping your off-hand close to the ball also forces the defender to think you're going to shoot, so you may be able to pull him close and drive around for a shorter shot. The detail about starting up before the feet are completely set is excellent. A high arc means an easier drop through the net.

Recently this year I’ve been having trouble with my jumper. Form is one motion elbow by the eyebrow with the flick of the wrist. In 2018 I still had the same jumper and I was making shots but the key difference was I glided my feet forward and let my shoulders drop back. When I found my shooting form, off the dribble, catch and shoot, off ball, and spot up became so easy. If I could compare it to something it literally felt like I was flying when I shot the ball, as corny as it sounds. But after watching this I finally know what’s been holding me back

A good tip to add to the first rule is take your hand to the ball. Example I’m a right handed shooter. For my one dribble pull up on the left I take my right hand to my left side and raise from there not taking the ball ton the other side. Less time for the defender to react. Adequate strength is required though.

Drawback for one motion shot tho is you can't midrange pull up while contested ala Kobe, MJ, or even Chris Paul. Notice Steph rarely does and usually opts for a floater in the midrange. If they do pull up, usually it's after a stepback like how Harden does.
@brianhumphreyjr.7613
@brianhumphreyjr.7613 4 года назад
Devvv I’ve always wondered abt that because I can always get my shot of quick but when I pull up it’s different and I was wondering should I have two shots or which is better
@footballbhuv
@footballbhuv 4 года назад
Personally I think its best to shoot one-motion for a three-point shot but 2 motion for a mid range. It really helps if you can change the way you shoot based on the situation.
@WeMoomingNow
@WeMoomingNow 4 года назад
@@brianhumphreyjr.7613 i think everyone should have 2 shots. One is a 3pt shot like steph's, klay's, dlo's, one motion, quick and lethal. Another is a two motion shots, similar to that of KD, Kobe, and Jordan. The two motion shots are more versatile and adaptable to different situations. I've seen Klay thompson shoots and one of his biggest weakness is how his one motion shot is limited in terms of releasing angle and body posture.

one motion shot has a very big weakness, that it limits the types of shot you can take. Theres a reason why lethal midrange scorers like KD, jordan, kobe, chris paul, etc. all use two motion shots. These shots are more adaptable to different types of footworks and situations inside the 3pt line.

Great video, but can you make a video on beating your defender. Not some random move, I mean like a guide, eg. Changing speed, changing direction, getting low, selling fakes with eyes, extending the ball from your body etc. It would also be nice to include how to protect the ball, without your body, as if you look closely, most NBA players aren't protecting the ball with their body, excluding centres, they are dribbling through them.

One trick I also came up or may have discovered is to jump backwards when shooting. But you need a bit more force to throw the ball. This may need extra calculations, but it's not impossible.

@tigertim719
@tigertim719 4 года назад
To be honest, you don't think that much or don't have time to think that much when you shoot. Your body just react to defender's move when you play enough. You will move away from the defender. The step back, fade away all come naturally if you play enough. You will start to use them without knowing. When you reflect, you will realise what you did, then just keep practicing that. But the best practice is always when facing an opponent in a real game. in summary, play more and reflect afterwards. Don't think too much when doing moves. Practice the fundamental till they become your second nature. Everything else will come when situation allows.

Where do you learn all of this from? I remember BBallbreakdown explaining the Sweep and Sway and had interviews with players that perform it. That was like 5 years back. The same goes with the dip. The rest, such as terms like shot pocket and the concept of "syncing", I learned from Rick Torbett's Better Basketball series when I was younger.
