One of the great menswear mysteries when tying a tie is how to get a perfect tie dimple. While there are many different types of tie knots, the one that I like to use to get a perfect tie dimple every single time is kind of a variation on the Old Bertie tie knot. It's perhaps not the most easy tie knot out there, but it's not that difficult to get the hang of. And in this quick tutorial, you'll learn exactly how to do it. Enjoy!

By the way while I’m early, have you ever considered doing a shopping haul video? Where you go to any menswear and or any clothing shops to see how your thought process goes when you’re looking for clothing. It would be cool to see what exactly goes in your mind whether you’re there looking for specific outfits for specific occasions or just happen to pass by while you’re out and about during the day

It's interesting how a little variation in the order of tying a knot can produce very different effects, I thought (like another commenter) this was a half-windsor the first time around. Will try this method next time! - Han

I'm honestly finding if I just tie it like a pratt knot with once around the side instead of double works well for me to get a dimple. Doing it twice over the side creates too much bulk with my tie knot

I was thinking the same thing.. when I tie this not I make the loop on both sides... now I see it's less complicated to do 2 loops on one side... It feels like I just found the answer to all math problems

Good question. And the answer is no. However, if you were to do this with a thicker wool tie, I would forgo the second loop around, so then you've basically got a classic Old Bertie knot at that point.

Thanks Brian (and hello, hope all's well with you!) This is a cool and easy knot. I have a pretty big neck so I usually go with Shelby, which uses up less tie and always ends with a cute dimple. (BTW I just bought a vtg Oxxford suit, my first. I love it!!)

Hi Brian, I have an idea for a video. "How to dress for the state you live in" or "How to not feel out of place". I live in MT, Billings to be exact which is the biggest city in MT (100k people) and even with that being said. Sometimes wearing a suit or dress clothes that are even considered classic can get you some odd looks. Or from some folks It makes them feel intimidated. I work in finance and I actually work part-time at a local Men's store while putting my wife through school. How would you overcome this feeling? Or how would you dress in the Northwest? Love your content!

I pinch the fabric as I use a four & hand Knott. Once you fold the linen liner, ( if lined) properly, it always ties with a dimple.

Here's a bit of a tip to make this video attract more people; in videos like these, it helps a lot to have camera in front of your face, like the viewer is tying it himself. It's much easier. :)
