Really appreciate this video and what seems to be a straightforward acknowledgement that this can be done. I am trying to finish off a new build yet seem to be running into a wall for a holistic rgb control solution with what I’ve picked up. Not expecting an endorsement here, but if you, or anyone reading this comment, could provide a generic link to the type of adapter cable that accomplishes attaching phanteks drgb case fans (5 volt, gen 2 “blanked”4-pin) to the commander core hub bundled with the white Corsair h150i elite Capellix, I’d be incredibly appreciative. I feel like it should be very straightforward, but then I read something that says the type of RGB on the Corsair hub is not at all what is on the case fan side of things (this seems entirely wrong to me, but I don’t wanna blow up my $700 ASUS Formula board 😂). Thanks in advance!

This is awesome, but I think that a much easier option for those not wanting to do a lot of dirty work with their PC is simply switching to a more democratic RGB software, and a great example is OpenRGB (pretty barebones), JackNet RGBSync (Haven't heard much about it), and SignalRGB - the one that I use. It allows to account for the placement of your devices relative to eachother, and the effects are a lot more versatile. Only thing which would make ICue preferrable is the performance: ICue is way more performance friendly.

Thanks K12SXXFire! I have looked at doing that a couple of times, but haven't really explored it. They do make a USB to sata power connector, check it out here, www.amazon.com/USB-SATA-Power-Cable-Sata/dp/B0184ZQDA8?th=1. This would be for power only of course, you would still need another USB for RGB control. That's just a quick search, I haven't tried this at all, so I can't say if it would work, but is a place to start looking. I do have one of these laying around somewhere, might need to go play around that and do a project. Let me know if you find something that works. Good Luck, have fun, thanks for watching!!!

Hi Sal Carrera, I've had a couple of times where iCUE would crash on me repeatedly. I would start with uninstalling iCUE, reboot, reinstall the latest version (ver 4.x) and then give it a try. Make sure all the controller firware is up to date, possibly even force an update. If that fails, try removing/reinstalling any other RGB software like signal rgb or open rgb and maybe wait a bit to reinstall it until icue is stable. Beyond that, there could be other environmental factors with windows causing issues. I've not had any issues specifically with having Lian Li connected, but try disconnecting it temporarily and run without it just to make sure it's not that connection. I would start that and see if it helps. If it's still crashing, you might consider contacting corsair, collect logs for them and see if they can pinpoint it any further. I hate to recommend re-installing windows as there can be many things causing issues, but that's always an option. Let me know what you find, thanks for watching!!!

Hi A. I was able to plug in a device with a VDG connector to the CP and it works. It physically fits and makes a good connection. Keep in mind that the VDG connector is not keyed and is able to fit in the CP or LN ports in either direction, swapping the ground and voltage. I can't say with certainty on any device if this would cause damage. Do a bit of research so you are sure what the pinouts are. Good Luck! Thanks for watching!

Does any of those work with just the lighting node pro? I’m ordering a pack of 3 corsair QL fans and my case comes with 2 front lian li fans, wondering if I can just use the 6 rgb connected that comes with the pack of Corsair fans and hopefully control the rgb of my case fans with icue ? I have a micro atx asus budget motherboard and have not rgb slots at all, just usb and 2 system fan slots( I have 3-1 fan splitters)
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi Aidan Sedore, the QL fan kit comes with a lighting node core, which is only useful for controlling RGB on Corsair fans, you cannot control fan speed with that. Yes, you can use the lighting node pro to gain iCUE control over the Lian Li fans. you will use the adapter cable and connect it to the Lighting node pro, then to the Motheboard sync connector on the Lian Li controller. From there, put the lian li controller into motherboard sync mode and then use Icue to configure the port and match up the number of LED's as best as possible, play around with the differnt corsair devices until it looks right. To control speed, you would need a CORE XT, CORE, or Commander PRO, the CORE XT Also has a single RGB port you could use to control Lian LI, so a single CORE XT, you can control 6 Corsair Fans, RGB and PWM, and use the RGB port for controlling lian li rgb with the adapater cable....in that scenario, don't use the lighting node core, set aside or resell it. I hope that helps.....Thanks for watching!!!

I bought an UpHere GPU support bracket and the GIM lightbar with ARGB shown in this video. I just ordered the Corsair Commander Core XT and the Corsair RGB 5V ARGB adapter cables . Will the aforementioned devices be controller when connected straight into the Commander Core, or do I need an additional controller?
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi LO Rivera, that's a great question! The Commander CORE does not have a 3 pin RGB port suitable for non-corsair RGB. The CORE XT has this port so it will work. If you are going to use multiple non-corsair devices, you will want to use an RGB hub. Basically, all your 3 pin RGB devices connect to the hub, then the hub, which has a motherboard sync cable....plug that cable into the adapter cable, which then in turn plugs into the CORE XT 3 pin RGB port, you can then configure that port and sync all those devices within iCUE. I hope that help, let me know if I can help, thanks for watching!!!

@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi ItzFipBoom, that's a great question. It sounds like all your Lian Li fans will fit on a single Lian Li Controller. The Strimer will have it's own controller. There are other ways for the strimer to get RGB signals from the LIan Li fan controller, but what your asking about is how to connect it to iCUE In Order to do that, you will need a Corsair Controller that has an RGB output, the "Commander CORE XT", the Commander PRO and the Lighting node pro have these connections. The Commander Core with many corsair AIO's does not have the RGB port unfortunately. If that's the case, then consider getting the lighting node pro, which is a small controller that has 2 of these ports. Once you have the corsair controller with the RGB output, you need to connect non-RGB lighting to it. If you have a CORE XT with only a single RGB port, then I would suggest adding an RGB splitter......So, you would need 1 adapter cable and one 3 pin RGB splitter, such as these: www.amazon.com/Black-Splitter-Cable-Connection-Connector/dp/B07D8JCJKM/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=31B6ENS35EWI2&keywords=rgb+splitter&qid=1676867895&sprefix=rgb+splitte%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyWjJLNzhHWFE2T08xJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTQzNjA3M1JFTUVRSVcxQkpFTyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTc0NzE2MkcyOFVMNzBDUEExWCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= or: www.amazon.com/Splitter-ZCZQC-13-19inch-Extension-Computer/dp/B09Q2SCPTN/ref=sr_1_8?crid=31B6ENS35EWI2&keywords=rgb+splitter&qid=1676867966&sprefix=rgb+splitte%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-8 So, plug your 1 adapter cable into the RGB port of the corsair controller, then attach this splitter, one side of which would connect to your Lian Li FAN controller, the other would connect to your Lian Li Strimer controller (use the MB sync cables) From there, you put Lconnect into a motherboard sync mode and it will get it's signal from the corsair controller, which you configure in icue. So, 1 adapter cable and possibly an RGB splitter......I hope that gives you the direction you need. Good Luck and have fun with it!!! Thanks for watching!!!

I can get the V2 gpu one to register if I use an adapter like the video and plug it into the one RGB slot on my Commander XT. However, I can’t gain control of the 24 pin connector no matter what I plug in where. I even tried using the RGB port and adapter that the V2 can use successfully but that didn’t work for the 24pin either. I’m completely lost. I see it can clearly be done. How did you do it? I’ve got 2x of a similar cable like the vid, a Commander Core and an XT, and the Lian controller that came with the strimer. Do I need something else? Do I need to use a lightning node pro? Please help kind sir.
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi Brian R, Since you have the Strimer V2 GPU cable working it should be working. I am using the adapter cable described in the video. Plugged that into the RGB port on the CORE XT, and then I have the Motherboard sync cable from the Lian Li controller connected to that. I have then opened the Lian Li L-Connect 3 software and in the Quick/Sync Lighting tab on the left, i have turned on the MB lighting sync (You obviously have done this if the GPU cable works).. In iCUE I have configured the 3 pin Lighting to use 4 RGB LED Strips, I think it only needs 3, but I have it set to 4 and both the 24pin and GPU strimers work great, I can't control them individually through iCUE, but it works. I'm assuming you can control them individually using L-connect, in which case, there should be nothing needed but to put the controller into a mb sync mode. Do you have more than one lian li controller? If so, you would need to sync each controller to the corsair rgb port, for more than one device, use the adapter cable and connect it to an rgb hub and then you could connect all other non-corair rgb devices to the hub and sync it from that, works the same, just expands that single port on the CORE XT. If that doesn't help, let me know how you've got lian li connected and what controller you have, but from the sounds of it, it should be working, I'd also make sure you have the latest l-connect software, update it if not and reconnect everything. Let me know what you find, should be able to get this working....Thanks for watching!!!
@brianr4832
@brianr4832 Год назад
@@HardwareArtisan ah, I was not aware you used L connect at all lol. So I’ve been trying to get it to work without it. Which I finally did just yesterday. It was slightly more complicated though. I had to buy a lightning node (since I only have one corsair RGB port via the XT) and an original V1 24pin strimer just for the controller. (Fortunately it was on sale at MicroCenter). The V1 controller has a button you can press and hold for two seconds to sync it with the mobo. I don’t know why this feature was omitted from the V2. Maybe it’s not and I’m just an idiot. However… I’ve got the GPU strimer plugged into an eBay cable into the node. Then the 24pin strimer is plugged into the V1 controller into an eBay cable into the node. (Fortunately the eBay cable I bought was a two pack so I had an extra anyway) So in the end I’m left with a V1 24pin strimer I’ll probably never use, but all my RGB is synced through iCUE on my first custom PC in 15 years. And though my method was slightly different I appreciate the videos. They helped a ton in the process.

Hi merkekeruysat, I have connected icue to the Lian Li Strimer, I haven't tested with the V2, but I can't imagine it's much different. Make sure you're using the ARGB sync cable, and the cable should connect to the middle port on the conroller, right next to the power connector. Then connect your adapter cable to this connector and into your corsair controllers RGB/LED port. Then play around with the setup in icue to get looking good. You also will need to put the controller into a motherboard sync mode by pressing the M1 button for 2 seconds. I hope that helps, I'll have to perhaps do a video on this subject and revisit it. Thanks for watching!!!

@@HardwareArtisan I ordered the Lian Li Strimer V2 yesterday with the adaptive cable. I am hearing the same thing today and no one with V2 has been able to connect it to iCue, even using your way. It works for V1 controller, but not v2 controller. Can anyone confirm that or have a fix?

okay so ive been struggling to understand all this but im getting a ek aio cooler, asus strix motherboard, and a lian li case that im going to use with the supplied 3 rgb fans and buy 3 more lian li 3gb fans so I would just need the adapter and the corsair commander pro to hook all of this up? i see the commander supports 6 fans and the usb slot for the motherboard so that would take care of all that correct? and just leave me with the aio to hook up? so I would need a second commander and adapter for those 3 fans or does that use a different kind of connector? Would the aio possibly the other usb connector that the commander pro uses? waiting for all this to come in the mail so just trying to figure out what all I need to get before everythings here

my coursair fans have 4 pins....im super confused
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
hi test test, Corsair Fans normally have 4 pins for RGB lighting, this is a molex connector that corsair uses, this connector will connect directly to the corsair controller and doesn't need the adapter cables discussed in this video. This video is specific for using non corsair RGB lighting with a 3 pin ARGB connector. If all you have is 4 pin RGB fans from corsair, you just need a corsair controller, none of this stuff, check out the Commander CORE XT for a good controller. There are 4 pin RGB connectors that are 12v connections which is a different subject, so make sure your fan is a 5v ARGB fan, but on Corsair that is a 4 pin connector. I hope that helps, if not, let me know what specific fan you have and where you're running into trouble. Thanks for watching!!!

My motherboard has 4 pin rgb headers! 3 pin connector will not connect cause of that blank hole
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan Год назад
Hi John Hamilton, that 4 pin RGB header will be a 12V RGB header and won't work for controlling 5v ARGB. However, verify that your motherboard manual. Thanks for Watching!!!

Can i just used lighting node core?
@HardwareArtisan
@HardwareArtisan 2 года назад
Hi Achik My, great question! The lighting node core uses a 4 pin connector which is designed for Corsair fans. The concepts in this video wouldn't apply to to the lighting node core. Although it might be possible to create a cable adapater that would work with the 4 pin connector, I have not tried it. That might be an interesting concept to see if it can be done and how it would work. I appreciate the question and for watching. Have an amazing day!

Please please, can someone help me with what i need to buy. i want to be able to use the icue software(if it is even possible with my mobo) and have all my rgb connected to one software with the same animations. these are my rgb stuff: - I have a ASRock Z790 Pro RS motherboard with 3 5v 3 pin ARGB connectors and two 9 pin usb 2.0 connectors. my case (Be Quiet! Pure base 500DX) uses one 5v 3 pin ARGB connector - Lian li strimer plus v2 both the 24 pin and 2x8 pin connector which only use one 5v 3-pin cause of the controller that comes with it, -6 lian li uni fan sl-infinity fans which only use 3 5v 3-pin - Phanteks neon digital led strips one 5v 3-pin connector -Asus ROG Herculx gpu support bracket, one 5v-3pin header. -NZXT Z63, one 5v 3-pin connector. what do i have to buy to connect all these. i beg please help.

Hi William Knows, that's a great question. There are several ways to approach your situation, which is very common. I'll get to iCUE solutions in a sec, but iCUE will not control your asrock motherboard unfortunately, to my knowledge only ASUS motherboards will currently work. Because of that, you can't control any of your motherboard RGB headers with icue. I have alot of 'non-corsair' rgb in my setups and what I have done is use a RGB hub, here is one as an example, from amazon, this one is a rgb only, but you can use one that has fan connections as well. a.co/d/bORbEg5 Basically, plug all your 3 pin 5v connections to this, and then connect this hub to the Corsair controller using the adapter cable discussed in this video, this will get the signal from Corsair and 'repeat' it across all the channels. For products with another RGB control, such as Lian Li, you will need to put those controllers into a motherboard sync mode, meaning it will get it's signal from this HUB and in turn from Corsair. It works well, not perfect, but good enough in most cases. In my case, I have to just accept that icue won't control my motherboard internal lights, and I don't use the motherboard rgb headers. Any of the Corsair controllers that have an RGB port will work, which includes the CORE XT (recommended), commander pro, lighting node pro. So purchase the controller, the hub and an adapter cable and go have some fun. Short of that, you may want to try Signal RGB, OpenRGB, or Jacknet, those software applications attempt to work across multiple manufacturers, I have had limited success with all 3 of those, they are not perfect either though. It may not be a perfect setup, but I can can have alot of fun with that setup. I hope that helps point you in the right direction and gives you some ideas. Thanks for watching!!!

I'm starting to regret buying all this Corsair RGB crrp. It's like a future rat's nest waiting for me to wire up that I don't need or particularly want. It's not like it's going to make my comptuer go faster or be morepowerful, and is going to look corny once the computer is obsolete. And it's not like I bought a lot of RGB, just 6 fans and the RGB AIO cooler head. But what a nightmare.

Hi 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 (♞) 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫, those are all very fair points for sure. I know what you mean about old obsolete PC's looking corny, they do get a look to them once they are old and tired....and some lighting can make it look like a bad circus for sure....haha. Although I can't inspire you to love RGB lighting, I would suggest giving it a shot since you have it. I personally enjoy the challenge of cable management and hooking it all up. You can also get some classy looks with rgb lighting as well, just keep it simple. With that said, Have fun with it, that's the important thing!! Good Luck, let me know how it's going!! As always, thanks for the support and for watching!!

@@HardwareArtisan Well, I have to give it a shot, I wasted a lot of money on the Corsair case route, water cooler, and ML120 RGB Fans. One leads to another and soon you've spent $200 extra on nothing but 2 cent LEDs. In retrospect, if you want to add RGB to a system, buy a $5 RGB gamer mouse off ebay. Plug it in. Boom you're done. It will tell you when your system is on or off, and help you find your mouse in the dark. Anything beyond that is superflous waste. If you want to get really crazy, buy a USB RGB keyboard, plug it in, boom you're gain done, and that will help you find your keyboard in the dark too. The best part, no matter what OS route you go, your RGB mouse and keyboard is gonna work. Not so much so with iCUE, that only runs under W10/W11? I run Windows 7, so I'm probably phwcked anyway and wont' even be able to do anything with the lighting except in BIOS (if at all). I'd rather have a physical controller box. For you know, if I ever want to run Linux, or MacOS, or Windows XP. Who looks over at their PC while they are working? Nobody. You're looking at your screen(s). :)

I don't have experience with MysticLight, EVGA or Gigabyte Fusion, only Asus Aura, but I can safely say it's the worst. It's a total crapshoot what's going to work, or if it's going to work at all. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, used older versions. Sometimes all your devices will work, sometimes it'll say "please restart your computer." Sometimes the mobo will show up in iCue, sometimes my gpu, sometimes neither. RGB should just be an open standard and it should be up to the companies to work in the implementation the best. How this is still a problem in 2022 is confounding

It sucks, I have a complete 7000 case, 9 fan, RAM etc new build. 1st it wont touch the RAM, second the 2 Commander XT wont talk to each other so 1 fan and m y Corsair 360mm iCUE cooler work independent of the other Commander XT. The DASHBOARD taks up 3/4 of my 27" secondary monitor, zero location becon software which is standard on even the cheapest cisco gear so you play WHICH FAN IS THIS bullshit. Total junk...27 year telco eng speaking here.
