@@ok-hc4hewell yeah if you think your nose is filled with dirty blackheads instead of those ofc you're gonna feel a bit bad. Why laugh at someone feeling better about themselves? You're sad
the ordinary "niacinamide and zinc serum" clears the sebum from your face. its 1/2 face products ive used that i can 100% say works. its the ONLY 1/2 products ive ever used out if the hundreds and hundreds ive use that makes a VERY VISIBLE improvement. how do i know? because i have an ear camera and swept it across my face before i bought the serum. the camera makes every pore on your face as large as your phone screen. you can see everything (dont ever get one because the urge to oick at every inch of your skin is unreal. i really hate what ive done to mynface since getting that camera.) after using the serum for about 1 to 2 weeks 80% to 85% of my pore have cleared completely. its really unbelievable how well this stuff works. and its VERY VERY VERY cheap. dont use knock offs. only ise the ordinary. no reason to use knock offs anyway considering how cheap it is. i promise youll be hooked. this stuff is magical.
@@mariec7092well actually, she's right. They aren't the same. Sebaceous filaments are not acne while blackheads are. Most people will have sebaceous filaments since its just an overproduction of sebum.
@mariec7092 they aren’t the same thing. Sebaceous filaments help move oil from your sebaceous glands to the surface of your skin, everyone has them but they can be more prominent in some people because of their oiliness. Blackheads are a type of acne that are open dark bumps that are filled with excess oils and dead skin that prevent oil travelling to your skin because of a sebum plug. Excess oils produced by sebaceous filaments can lead to black heads but they aren’t the same thing.
Dr Idriss, could we please get a full-length video on sebaceous filaments? That would be fantastic! Thank you so much for all your amazing content! Love from Poland ❤
Lady every time I see you in my feed, you’re correcting a problem that I seem to be having with the snap of your fingers, thank you, like seriously every time I’ve seen you in the last 48 hours I found out something about myself I think I’ve seen five videos
Another thing I can recommend is Salicylic acid. It cleared the pores on my nose so good. And the black dots were gone. It does not remove the pores cause that’s impossible but it will make them less noticeable because it removes that black junk out of your pores!
I really loved Paula's Choice Salicylic acid thing but for whatever darn reason it makes top parts of my eyebrows fall out. Like some areas thin out massively. It's so weird... I was hoping I had overdone it but I feel like my body accumulated on something and has this reaction now for whatever reason? I waited for like months, my eyebrows were bouncing back and then this one time (after a months long pauae!) only used it on my cheecks and nose or something like that, waited 10 minutes and washed it off very carefully to not let it touch the eyebrows even when washing off. Still caused that reaction! And again took a darn while for them to bouce back. I miss using salicylic acid! I started using it bcs I wanted extea help with exfoliation and it was wonderful for that and for these sebacious filaments on my nose and my inner cheack area, also helped with pimples somewhat. The one product that actually felt like a magic product lol. But man, I like having eyebrows. I think at some point I even tried using it only on my body, noy even my face - again caused my eyebrows to react like that. Lol why? 😅
@@essennagerry oh no that’s so annoying. Maybe you should see a dermatologist, cause that’s quite strange how your eyebrows react to SA even tho you tried to use it as far away from your brows. Maybe u need to try another brand, mines from CandyCush.
I’ve been using this now for two months after seeing this and it does work! And I found it on sale at tj maxx so I got it for a fraction of the usual price since it had been sold out at Sephora while I was looking for it
What is the name of the product itself? I know she showed the product in the video but I can’t seem to catch the actual name for it. Please and thank you! 🥺🥺
@@annipsy2185I had this when I was like 10 and my grandma thought it was a blackhead so she literally dug into my nose skin with a sewing needle, trying to get the “blackhead” out 💀 (still have them to this day)
To be fair you would definitely be able to tell if she had those dots on her nose even with make up on, It creates texture under the makeup that can't be covered
you just perfectly explained a problem i’ve been dealing with for over 4 years and i can’t thank you enough!! i see so many videos saying to use oil cleansers and vaseline to lock in moisture and my acne prone skin could never accept those products! thank you Dr Shereen for the lovely advice❤️🇱🇧
I use Naturium’s BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2%, twice a week, and this has help me SO much!! Especially on my nose and chin, with this issue! And it has also helped make sure my makeup doesn’t settle in to this spots as well!
For YEARS I always thought I had black heads and would spend hours painfully squeezing my nose but I found that using a soft bristle toothbrush actually helps too. I’m not sure if that’s recommended but it makes my nose clear
Do you use any products with the toothbrush? I usually dab with warm towel and gently exfoliate with it, it does help to get some gunk out but some of the stubborn ones would still remain.
@@Bhnbhn I use a purifying cleansing foam enriched wifh lactic acid. It’s very gentle. Sometimes during in wintered when my skin feels a bit more weathered I might use a fine granulated sugar scrub
I have those and use a gentle peeling (like those konjac face sponges) to make them smaller and much less visible. They do come back, but its the best and least irritating way for me!
@@tyrannicalbigtech5842 I use Tretinoin, a Benzoyl Peroxide wash daily, a SA toner, Mandelic and Azelaic acid some evenings, and a glycolic based peel once or twice per week. They still appear sometimes. Also, I don't eat any sugar, and get the appropriate amount of protein, fat, fiber, and micronutrients.
I remember watching a video of yours where you discussed this as well. I now use straight up 20% zinc and salicylic acid. My nose has not been this smooth since I was a kid!! Thank you for all of your advice
It also looks like the sebaceous filaments are in the skin but black heads poke out of the skin. 25 years I'm thinking I've got blackheads and turns out i don't. Still hate them though bc without makeup on our can see them.
@@laurenw.3656 I have trust issues, I never believe when they say no filter or photo shop. I’ve been let down every time. Editing has come a long way and it’s easier and sneakier to add these filters.

Bro... You don't know how much I have tried to get rid of mine thinking they were extremely stubborn blackheads - I had literally given up and accepted that I will always have an ugly nose. Suddenly I saw your video while random scrolling and started feeling sm better 😅
I am so grateful to you for this info, i have been struggling all my life with this. I only started following ur content maybe a month or so ago, purchased your pillowtalk products and my skin tone has almost evened out, lightened to my natural color and i am practically glowing. Acne spots are clearing. I got it for my mom cause she has had terrible malasma on her check for years and she was real depressed about it and didnt want to leave the house. We never even knew what it was until i saw ur video about it. Thank you for ur advice, tips and products. U are amazing. I need a derm like u, love from NYC
Thank you! I have such obvious pores on my nose (and combination skin with oilier t zone). I always bought the nose pore strips and basically nothing comes out at all! I couldn’t understand it as I thought they would be like blackheads. I will try this cleanser as I don’t know how else to minimise their appearance and they’re so big. My skin is pretty clear otherwise and I this is literally the first time I’ve heard anyone actually describe these accurately and offer a solution to try!
Yaaassss! Saving my skin over here. One step closer to the skin of my dreams. I was going to go the oil cleanser route, but now I have a different strategy to try. Didn’t realize they weren’t blackheads. 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you! ☺️🤗
I really love your videos, quick,to the point, informative, fun, dont stop!! I ordered the bundle skin care from you so excited to try ! I was wondering if ypu have a video on how you do your eye make up & if you use lipstick?? you always look nice Thank you 😊
Hm, I am very oily and prone to clogging and I love my oil cleanser. I can literally feel little hard plugs coming out of my pores sometimes. But maybe not all oil cleansers work for oily people.
@@vanna_hansen I also have very oily skin and I love using the Banila Co Clean It Zero Original Cleaning Balm. My skin seriously feels so soft after using this. You just want to make sure to massage it into the skin, no water, for a good amount of time and then add warm water and continue to massage and emulsify the product until you get a nice milky liquid. Then rinse and follow with your regular cleanser. I think that's the key to making sure all the oil is removed to keep pores from clogging. I always end up feeling little balls or like what I assume is blackheads or oil plugs coming out of my face, its so satisfying. I usually only use it after a day that I've worn sunscreen and makeup on my face, but I am considering everyday use since my forehead and nose seem to be less textured after using the oil cleanser. I'm just worried about breaking out if I use it too often. I am definitely looking into a sulfur based cleanser/mask also now that she's recommended it.
I soaked in a hot, steamy bath, washed my face, and used a 'pore vacuum' on my nose, last year sometime. It worked AMAZINGLY well! It completely cleaned-out those little sebaceous filaments from my pores, and those little things haven't returned yet!
My grandmother in algeria massaged fresh onion juice (lots of sulfur) on her face every evening and applied heaps of fresh olive oil into her hair everyday. Shes 88 and still has 90 percent pitch black full hair and her skin (barring small amount of wrinkles for someone that age) is a lot healthier, shiny and smooth than most people! Nature and life long consistency seems to do wonders.
@gorgoritos242 depends on a lot of factors, including genetics. She's out living in the countryside her whole life, gets plenty excercise picking olives/gardening, tonnes of vitamin D, meditatively prays 5 times a day, doesn't watch TV or looks at phones/screens, is constantly overjoyed with her huge number of grandkids, no stress, never once touched booze and cigarettes etc, eats raw garlic cloves and onion every morning with olive oil, drinks natural well water and fresh organic meat, veg and fruit (doesnt eat processed food or sweets except a monthly homemade cake) for her entire life pretty much. Regarding hair, the olive oil she uses is homegrown organic, cant get more pure. You know, there's a reason cancer for example has gone up way over 3000% in the last few decades, especially in more developed places as all the things can play a huge role. Stress, old emotional trauma, diet and hormone imbalance all do a lot to cause hair loss. I hope she finds a solution. One size doesn't fit all unfortunately. Peace
@@arleneberlian I live in Southeast Asia so its kind of a local product here I don't know if you heard it. Its Y.O.U Acneplus low ph calming cleanser. It works well in my opinion but can be a little bit drying especially for dry skin type so you have to moisturize well afterwards or maybe switch with a more gentle cleanser sometimes. Edit: If you're looking for a cleanser similar to it, I suggest look for ones that have AHA, BHA and PHA on them.
@@syahirah3245 to be honest, its the only product I tried from that brand 😅 but you can try out the other products from the brand too, this is one of the products from their Acneplus set if you're interested in that.
Yes I like salacylic acid for around my nose also. When my favorite salacylic acid face wash was discontinued recently, they all came back. My skin hasn't been the same and I've been trying new products with Salacylic and Glycolic, but nothing that works for me yet 😭
Thanks for zooming in on your skin. I forget that real skin has texture sometimes. The lighting in my bathroom seems to accentuate every pore on my face so I feel like I have worse skin than I do
My dermatologist suggested this to me. Low and behold I am allergic to sulfur and anything that has sulfate in it.... I shed a few layers lol but after having red fave for a week now having clogged pores is a relief lol
My mom uses nothing but Clinique soap FOR YEARS and she has the best skin! We would be out and there would be strangers stopped or coming by to compliment her skin all the time it’s ridiculous 🤯
most of the time cases like this are due to genetic, your mom just genetically have great skin, doesn't matter what products she uses, she will have great skin.
Also, staying on this nose topic: is it normal to have the area around your nostrils red/purple? I have read it can be rosacea but it is really the only place where I have it so I am unsure!!! Thank you Dr Idriss, all the love
I suffer from sebaceous filaments not knowing what they were I picked on my nose and did so much damage 😢 I finally figure that by washing my face and using BHA toner consistently my nose looks looks so much better my pores look sooo tiny now.
YES YES YES. I have excoriation disorder, basically when you obsessively pick at your skin. I have sebaceous filaments, and I know this sound crazy and unreal, but I’m telling you my skin picking was next level- every time I would sit in front of a mirror, like to do my makeup, I would get caught up picking my skin (what I thought were blackheads). I know that doesn’t sound too bad, but I’d sit there for 6 hours on average most of the time, without moving a muscle, not even to pee or get water, it was almost like a trance where I’d get extremely agitated if someone came to talk to me and disturbed me. It caused me so many muscle issues and aches and pains, because I’d be hunched over for 6 hours and always extremely tense the whole time without moving, to the point where when I did move id have to slowly move each limb while crying out in pain. Id pick my “blackheads” out with fine tip tweezers, but I’d just end up picking the skin of layer by layer. My nose would be bleeding profusely and it’s just be a giant wound and id still be picking. And when I tell you that happened EVERY TIME I WENT IN FRONT OF A MIRROR- I would have plans with my friends and always have to cancel because I’d get caught up picking my skin, I might even have an important appointment but once I start picking my skin I just can’t stop. I always had multiple bandaids across my noise because it was one giant scab with it it, I was so insecure of it. Yet for some reason id still go back to picking trying to get the blackheads out, even though I knew what would happen. It wasn’t even about the blackheads at some point, it was just an obsession. It’s a little better now, and I’m gonna try this cleanser to see if it helps. Sorry for the rant, but my god I read your comment and I’ve never related harder and I just had to share.
I also have damaged my nose too for picking on my nose! How many times a week do you use your BHA toner in your routine? I might also add that to mine.
Thank you cuz I was looking for this comment. I have little freckle like scars on my nose now because of years trying to get the “blackheads” out 😭 and all the pores look bigger. I also have broken capillaries on the sides of my nose and underneath my right eye. I don’t really like to wear makeup so I’m trying to embrace it. It sucks because my cat hooked a claw in my eye bag area, where my skin is probably thinnest, and broke another capillary. It’s right above the big one I already have under my eye. 🥹 probably only going to get worse with age. Dunno if I should look into laser treatment or save up for a bunch of expensive creams. Completely unrelated to sebaceous filaments but had to get that off my chest. 😭
@@_kikizaman_do you have any advice for helping excoriation disorder? I have it really bad and no-one else seems to know what it is. I even wake up picking at my skin and bleeding sometimes now. Do you also get trichotillomania?
Making a paste of baking soda to water and gently rubbing and cleaning your nose or blackhead prone area with the paste in a circular motion. Gently do rest of face in circular motion. Leave on for a minute then rinse with warm water then rinse with cool water. Can do twice a week to clear skin and exfoliate for smooth skin. I'm not a board certified dermatologist....just a gal with glowing soft skin.
Full length vid and more recommendations on sulfur face products please. And there’s two Kate products that have sulfur, do you only recommend the wash or do you recommend its use with the spot treatment as well? Also these are all over my fricken nose and chin I would love to be able to get rid of them. And lastly can you use sulfur with salicylic acid? I keep having to edit to add questions lol we need a full length Saturday video please 🙏🏼
Definitely try oil cleansing first before you buy something expensive. I literally use johnson and johnson baby oil and it doubles as a cheap makeup remover. Rub in gentle circular motions on problem areas for a few minutes and then cleanse with a regular non-oily cleaner so you get the oil off. Try it for a week before you move onto something more expensive.
Wow! I’ve always wondered why with I guess true black heads, supposedly got rid of them yet popping mine only to find immediately they’re back so that’s helpful! My Dad and Grandmother both had pretty severe cases, I have them and haven’t ever been able to scrub them out even with vibrating tools like foreo and popping only widens the pores. I’ll definitely try sulfer based products
My best friend has these on his nose and when I pick them out, they’re literally dozens upon dozens of tiny little hair like things… It’s incredibly satisfying when I can tweeze one out and put it on a tissue & see all the little tiny hairs. They’re definitely not blackheads, which is just the white gunk turning black at the tip because it’s exposed to oxygen. (the white gunk is skin cells, oil, etc. the same thing that’s in cysts I’m pretty sure?)
Ummm what magical undereye concealer/makeup are you wearing? Looks so hydrated and nothing like my undereyes with makeup on. I'm 35, but my undereyes look like I'm 97
I went to the dermatologist once and asked what products she'd recommend for my sebaceous filaments.. Lady looked at me like I was crazy and asked - "What's that?" :')
Not all Drs are smart. Actually, in America, most aren’t. It used to be hard to get into medical school but that’s not the case now. The schools are corrupt and greedy as hell so they want a lot more students than they did back in the day. Go talk to a Dr in Japan and marvel at how much smarter they are 😂
Idk if this is right, but I’ve used stridex pads almost nightly for exfoliation and those also clear up my sebaceous filaments. Shocks me every time I get out of a depression long enough to care and get back to my routine.
Stridex pads work great for me to get rid of these and they are cheap. The green one is a milder strength but the 2% in the red box will get rid of them in a day or 2 for me. These only come on my nose when i dont use them. Daily use of natural witch hazel on a cotton pad also works but takes a bit longer than salycilic acid treatment.
I've tried EVERYTHING and those wouldnt go away. I've tried using SA, cleansing balms, retinols, glycolic acid, niacinamides, regularly exfoliate, and they're still thereee. Pls make an in depth video abt sebaceous filaments
Hey! You are absolutely right few days back I tried this oil cleansing method and I used baby oil on my nose believe me I am suffering from hard sebaceous filaments I am regretting badly so I will request to all the people if you have slight acne prone skin combination skin or oily do not try this method please….
She wasn't recommending the brand so much as she was the active ingredient. Every product is going to work significantly different on each individual, hence why skincare is 100% customized. Find products with the active ingredient mentioned.
Thank you, 67 and going to the sermon on Friday. Yes to the big zit on the side of the nose. I was what just happened. Always had big pores, but every morning, walking up with sits on the nose. Ugh, ugh, teenage acne, adult acne, and now Senior citizen Acne??😢
You can also use the head and shoulders shampoo as it has Sulphur. Put like a mask of it around your nose for 2 min. Trust me it cleared all my pores and even helped with my backne
Head and Shoulders has Sulfate, which is different that the Sulphur she is referring to. I recently started using H&S for its zinc quality though. Haven't noticed a difference between that and my typical cleanser, honestly.
@@janetuss6496 I used to just gently rub a fresh slice of onion wherever it was needed, after washing my face at night. I let it dry and wash again in the morning. @@seajelly2421 oh lol 😆 I see, ok. Sounds easier, I thought you really like juiced an onion lol. Do you rub it on your nose after normal moisturizer and skincare routine? Or before that? Or you only put the onion without anything else?
Does it make sense to cleanse your nose every day but cleanse your whole face only twice a week? My nose is oily and prone to clogged pores, but the rest of my face doesn’t have this susceptibility and it is also a bit on the drier side.
i have the exact same issue, and this method helped me alot, but since its starting to get cold my nose has stopped getting so oily, so i just cleanse in three to two days only if my face feels dirty, otherwise i just use water and a gentle soap and it has been a game changer.
It makes sense, I'm also very oily only on my T-zone and the rest tends to be dry. when it's cold I don't use harsh ingredients to cleanse every day, but still every night I use a normal/gentle cleanser on my whole face just to get rid of superficial stuff that might be there and also other residual products, like sunscreen and sometimes makeup!
I heard products migrate on your skin. Therefore dirt should as well. A face needs to be clean at least one/day. So may be the moisturizer you use isn't the one for your skin. Who knows ? I answer you but I'm not an expert 😅.
Are you using a water-based moisturizer or a cream one? I used to use a cream moisturizer and it dehydrated my naturally oily skin. But it does work for some people though, perhaps depends on the brand and ingredients. And maybe use a gentle, hydrating cleanser too and not one that is stripping
I used to live in Florida at an RV resort when we traveled for work. There was a sulphur spring there and that is what came thru all of the faucets. My hair and skin was in the BEST condition it had ever been in my entire life (I am 53 years old). I now live in Georgia and use sulphur soap for my skin. For my hair, I use an ACV hair rinse. The trick with bullies is not to believe what they want you to believe. I'm sure if pay attention to their skin, you will also find some stuff to be mean about. Just ignore them.
I am NOT a board-certified dermatologist, so please try to see a Dr. to get a real diagnosis. but here are ingredients from her previous YT on hyperpigmentation: Finacea = prescrip azaleic acid; RETINOID/Retinol; Glycolic acid, lactic acid, tranexamic acid, Kojic acid, arbutin, licorice root, Niacinamide 5%, azaleic acid, Diglucosyl Gallic acid, vit C.

I tried massaging with an oil cleanser for about 15 minutes to help loosen up those sebaceous filaments as recommended and it was an absolute nightmare. Even after doing a double cleanse with a foaming cleanser, I broke out for 2 weeks following. All my pores were so congested and my skin was so irritated. Keep in mind that I usually use the same oil cleanser to remove makeup daily so it wasn’t a reaction to the product itself. It took months to get my skin back to normal. Lesson learned.
