Your correct Mike. Many say smack down. Your pizza drill and put it back has gave me a new game. 59 years old. Driving 250 average. Golfing for a year.
Hello, I've watched few of your videos. The word "enlightened " is hardly used to describe the usual golf vids. But your videos really have opened up my eyes. Your simple explanation of how the right elbow works, I've never heard it explained that way. That's big ! I've read Homer's thesis on the swing , watched tons of videos. Never heard it explained, like you have. the path to progress is understanding what you are doing. Cause and effect. Idk where you're from or if you're a teacher, keep up the great work!
Steve, this particular video has been a revelation for me. I have been playing for years, and I am 82 years old still trying to improve , and regain distance and accuracy with my irons. I cannot thank you enough for making this wonderful game of golf so much more fun with your easy to follow instructions.
I have spent a couple of hours on this lesson today, back and forth. Time well spent. Can't wait for sunrise to apply what you have been teaching here. If I may a tip from me; warming up with short clubs can make you steep on the down swing and take you to one of those range sessions that dents your confidence when nothing feels right. I am changing my routine to starting with 5 W and Rescue and working back to short clubs. Back to 3 W and 5 W and a few Drivers at the end to be ready for that first tee shot of the day.
Steve, another great video. So much I see that there is room for improvement. At present, with this one I have 12 of your lessons that I watch daily to improve my game. And it is certainly improving. (not necessary to respond)....A satisfied subscriber. Thanks
Steve...One thing you do that most of us do not do...is allow your left foot to pivot 45deg and your toe is pointing more down line. ..rather than at the tee. My shoes grip too well to allow that to happen. Is that why you do not ever snap hook the ball?
Great video Steve! When I think about your other video on throwing the club, the synchronization of weight shift/bump left hip. It what is tricky for me. When I watch your slow motion practice video your hips are already cleared, before impact. I am not sure I see that on the slow motion full swing. I while work on it..
That's terrific Kent! I see it all the time especially on the wedges...straight up straight down short of the green. Cheers and keep us updated when you get a chance to play around with these ideas.
Thanks Steve. You may have rekindled my desire to play again. Years of trying to hit down on the big ball have done nothing but make my game worse, cause injury, and make me want to quit. 10 minutes trying your motion of holding the left arm steady and instead moving the body again and suddenly I’m crunching the ball with compression! Just in time for snow tomorrow but at least now i feel like practicing this winter. God bless!
Steve - Thanks so much, after watching and practicing your tips on how to boom it longer and straighter with the driver, I needed a lot of help hitting greens. This is what I was missing, consistent compression. Amazing tips!
Gotta say with the forward lean and the upward throw, I have never hit my irons better. And I’ve read Ben hogans book the five lessons several times. Looking forward to perfecting this teaching. Thank you Chris.
Steve- Great tip. I am new to your site perhaps I've missed them but could you post some videos on ball position and width of stance. Enjoy your method, now it is a matter of practice, practice. Thanks. LR Calgary Alberta Canada
OMG i didnt think it was possible but my swing is next level! The 7, the left arm doesnt return itself, the turnover when the left arm stop before the pole, it all adds up. Ill be watching more. Lol now that i understand what needs to happen, it seems like i can almost critque the pro videos! P.S. does Like donald have a poor swing? Looks funny.
Steve, thanks for this! One of the best and clearest explanations I’ve ever seen. This video, and your backswing video together give a great model of the Swing for me to aspire to.
Great lessons , but you say hit with left arm past the ball and yet release the club from the top? Do you mean body and hands later as club comes past the ball ? Same with driver ? I love the swing and it has great power .
I think the main reason I have a difficult time getting fully onto the left post is the advice of keeping the head behind the ball at the same time. Those two thoughts are tough to reconcile together.
Yes just focus on a point around the arc and out in front of the ball for your snap and whoosh. Experiment with how far but it might feel like you're snapping up to three feet in front.
@@Inmotion70 ok but the question is should I incorporate his moves . It gets very confusing been watching several people that teach MA swing on RU-vid. The actual videos of MA plus Dan Shauger and I think his name is Bowden
Great question! Ever try custom insoles in your shoes? You could try flexing the right knee a lot more. If these don't work, just be a low ball hitter.
@@Inmotion70 Ive tried insoles with no luck. I actually hit the ball super high and hit about one inch behind it.. Hit normal distance for my size. 8 iron is 150 carry hitting inch behind it.. I come in super shallow and never get a divot.
@@ericdewayne4990 That's curious considering you're basically in a Stack and Tilt position because of the body. I would first look at the way you pivot and turn.
Steve, I am trying to figure out the difference of when you set up properly like you mentioned on your driver basics video, with shoulders aligned properly with the target line but in the downswing as you mention here that you need a proper torso turn that also seems/appears to open up your shoulders to the target line? Is the set up shoulders alignment solely for the backswing purpose since on the downswing seems like you are opening up with torso turn?
Steve, your detailed and rational explanations are excellent! Keep it up. You are enabling us to get more out of the sport and enjoy the benefits of smart execution. Thank you!
Question... when I take practice swings I really feel like my lower body is way ahead of my arms...hard to explain but as if there is a big timing difference between starting the lower body. With this delay I really see the low point where you say it should be. Do you feel this delay? Not sure if I can explain it well enough....its feels very exaggerated to me and it's hard to duplicate when swinging when the ball is there... not good when the ball is your target...I was wondering has any of your students had the same feeling? Do you feel that delay? It feels like my arms are passive for a second as I feel this shift and turn... ty for all you do. ....
Hi Steve, awesome coaching video. Do we throw all the iron up in the same trajectory (if we let it go) or we hit down more (throw lower ) with shorter clubs? Thanks, it is very helpful video!
Steve- what causes the ball flight to “squirt” right of target line when the left hip posts & clears early as you’re demonstrating? I’m feeling like everything is out of sync when I try this on the range
@@Bronco-Bill If you are keeping your butt line back, then you're looking at club and handle path...too far inside out or the handle too high and straight upon exiting. Film a DTL video.
Steve, please mention this is not a Mike Austin move. Mike advocated to throw the club immediately. You did just say the hands activated about half way down.
There are several actions of the hands and forearms. Some like the 'outthrow' happen immediately and others are slightly delayed. They reach peak torque about halfway down. That is the truth, beyond Mike could ever measure.
Chances are your low point is not forward enough. Most people chunk a few and decide unconsciously to take less and less of a divot as they choose the lesser of two evils.
