@@bigkmoviesandgames Exactly, it's like the Super Paper Mario of 3D Mario games - underrated and mixed opinions about it, but it's just not looked at as much as games like 64 and Galaxy and idk why
I remember trying this in the 90s after reading about it in a magazine. I never could pull it off back then. All I had to go off was a verbal description and maybe a screenshot or two at best demonstrating the trick. Now it's easy to duplicate the trick with video tutorials like this.
Mario 64 is so iconic, I found the "mystery" to it when I was younger so interesting, the secret rooms and dark info about it made me keep playing to find out more, kinda want to get a DS to play it again. Edit: I remember back when I was like 7? First opening the lava room and the castle and seeing bowser and being so shocked as the trapdoor opened below us.
Yes, I know about that infamous thing. The thing is, like the fact that even though Yoshi maxes out your lives there are a few 1UP Mushrooms, I wonder if it means that getting onto the castle like that was intended.
For once on RU-vid, I had discovered this when I was a kid. But I did it with some kind of reverse jump and triple-jump wall kick or something like that. I remember I could do it fairly consistently and impress my buddies.
I love the old video game urban legends people would make up. Yoshi behind the castle, Mew behind the truck, etc. Now you can just look everything up and call BS.
A good friend of mine told me once that he unlocked Shadow in Brawl and that anytime I came to the house he wouldnt be playable anymore and had a picture in the gallery of the game as “proof” that he had him and it was just a picture of sonic with some kinda effect from something in the game and he kinda had the colors of shadow and said it was the game “in between both versions”
Remember trying to get to the top of the castle because I was told yoshi was up there . Always felt so mysterious as a kid because we didn’t have internet to look it up. Sadly young me never how to climb the castle or get the canon to unlock
You can actually also get all the way to the top. A _VERY_ precise triple jump on the slope on the front of the castle will get you up on that high ledge. From there, you can actually run up one of the sides, making it to the top.
Mario 64 has to be my favorite Mario game. It was the first one I really worked hard to 100% and the only one I took time to learn glitches in. I really liked the glitch that crashes you through the castle wall so you fall behind the doors.
This is a Mario I would play if it were redesigned for our modern day consoles like Xbox and Playstation. I remember the hours I put into this game to beat Bowser and all the lil secrets I've found playing this golden nostalgia.
After getting my own personal N64 10 years ago to live the glory days. I heard yoshi was up there and learned that jump from an old RU-vid video. It Did take quite a while, but I got it down right before I was going to give up. Such an amazing game. I wish Mario moved like this in every game.
This trick was discovered like one week after game release. There was a previous harder way to do it in the other side of the castle, back jumping and kicking. Very hard and slow method though.
When a buddy and I were kids, we discovered this. At the time, we were nowhere near 120 stars. We lost our minds when we managed to accomplish it, only to be disappointed when we couldn't find Yoshi.
You can actually glitch through the ground when you jump on the tree in front of the sign next to the canon. If the water is still up you can just swim into the Canon
It takes a while to get down, but its actually not as bad as you think. Just make sure to wait a tiny bit before jumping off the slope to get the speed and distance.
This took me a ton of attempts as a kid, and when I got it, I was so disappointed that basically nothing was there except 3 one-ups. As an adult, in hindsight, I don’t know what I was really expecting…
