Hi everyone, just a quick tip if you're thinking of adding any of my recommendations to your current routine....you won't need everything so try not to go crazy. I will be uploading a full hyperpigmentation routine in the next few days, so if you're unsure how and when to add any of the ingredients, that will hopefully help. Also I wanted to add that the ingredient Alpha Arbutin is also very good at targeting Hyperpigmentation (although it made my skin really greasy so I don't like using it). xxx
A routine would be great! I use tret and it’s hard to know where to fit all this in without overdoing it! I have all of these products but so far, nothing has helped the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and it’s getting me down. I use LRP Shaka spf50 every single morning and reapply and I still have this redness on my cheeks! I currently have cut out all acids and only using soothing products and tret. Knowing how to introduce these products back into my routine would be great, thank you 😊
Hi Gemma!! I have a question about vit. c, if you get a chance! I've struggled with finding a vitamin C, also, but then I tried a formula that has vitamin C ester. It hasn't broken my skin out, but I also cannot say that it's been effective, either. Is vitamin C effective in an ester form (for lack of better wording lol)? TIA!! :)
I am have never posted on a youtube video before, but here it goes. Thank you for discussing hyperpigmentation. I know the agony of suffering with melasma. No, it's not cancer, nor the end of the world...I realize it's superficial and there are a lot more important things to be worried about. But if you have it, it can negatively affect your confidence and your self-esteem. I DID get rid of mine but it was a year's process. First, to control hormones, I switched to a LOW estrogen BCP. Personally, I feel the pill was what gave me melasma in the first place, but not being on it was not an option! LOL! Then, I tried IPLs...my face reacted poorly...I feel the physical stress might have created more injury to my skin and therefore more post-inflammation hyperpigmentation. Finally, what really worked was a Cosmelan peel, also called a Cosmelan mask. It is a doctor supervised procedure; it is a VERY high dosage of hyrdroquinone. You have to search around for a doctor who will even do it. But it is only used once, not an on-going situation. My skin turned beet red and yes, there was massive flaking & peeling. I stayed home for several days...but right after the peel was a noticeable difference and then it did continue to fade and fade. All that's left now is a small bit under my jawline (maybe mask did not go there? I have none on my face) which is very faded and easy to cover with make up. I keep it under control using Vitamin C, Tretinoin and all the usual anti-aging stuff. I'm 50 now, suffered my melasma in my 30s. I started my journey to fix it when a child told me my face was "dirty." Out of the mouths of babes, huh? I have been clear for over 10 years now and I'm only posting in case my information can help others.
I've had 3 sessions of IPL for my hyperpigmentation (and a few broken capillaries) and can't get over how much it's improved my skin. Worth every cent!
@@emmaainger7474 that's so annoying! I have heard mixed reviews. I don't know enough about the technical side of it to guess why that is. I hope you have better luck with something else 💜
So glad I came across your channel by accident, My new fav to watch! You've kept me going through lockdown from barely using a moisturiser to a whole new skincare routine every morning and night Thank you so much Xx
Vitamin C powder 1/4 teaspoon Filtered water 4 teaspoons Vegetable glycerin 3/4 teaspoon shake in glass jar enjoy Dark spots WILL fade a lot but not go away
Thank you for this! I have melasma pretty bad on my forehead from my pregnancy. Covering it usually doesn’t always work unless I’m really piling it on, which I hate doing. I love that your options are cost effective too. Not everyone can afford the high priced serums and creams or treatments. I like that you provide viable options. Thank you!!
I’d love to see a video on Skincare, makeup and spf tips for someone with rosacea. I want to make sure that I’m doing all I can to tone it down so that my makeup looks better. Thank you so much for all the work you do, it is greatly appreciated, you are awesome!
Thank you. I’d like to share or add that doing internal maintenance as being the most important. When you eat foods for example that are natural holistic like green leafy vegetables, broccoli and other good foods, your skin spots will begin to look a lot lighter. The more junk we eat the more the spot show up. Drinking lots of water is also very important as well as taking vitamin C and melanin as well as niacin which can flush the skin. This does not mean that the skin spots or pigmentation is not there anymore, it’s just that there is more oxygen flow and therefore they show up less.
I'd love to see you partner with The Ordinary with kits targeted by skin concern. For instance, I'm over 60, and I have fine lines and hyperpigmentation, hooded eyes. A kit tailored for me available from Ulta would be grand.
Besides the timeless vit. C, I also use a tretinoin by curology mixed w/niacinamide and azaleac acid which has helped immensely. I'm 64 yrs. and virtually have no age spots ( I've also been using sunscreen for over 30 yrs.).
I love the vit c capsules from Oskia, pricey but really effective. Gemma I loved your makeup, please could you do a get ready with me showing the look? 😊🥰
Unbelievably, I don't suffer from hyperpigmentation (considering sunscreen was unheard of pre 1980 - even then it was reserved for holidays abroad!). However, learning about skincare is a huge passion of mine and I greatly appreciate these types of videos. Hearing the benefits of each product really helps in determining what your skin actually needs. Thank you so much for this one, I'm loving it, 😊👍👍💗💗💗
I love Maelove’s The Glow Maker, and the Timeless 20%. I tend to toggle back and forth between these two. I use one of them every single morning without exception and follow it up with mineral sunscreen.
I ALWAYS reacted to vitamin c products (redness, acne), until I found "Eucerin Hyaluron-fillers, vitamin c booster". This works great for month now and I love it. I buy the package of 3, because it's "cheaper" (3x8 ml/ 37€/you'll need the tiniest amount!) Maybe a wolfpack member likes to try it. Love, hugs and kisses Sabine 😘
I absolutely love your videos, they're so helpful and to the point. I especially enjoyed this one, it's taken some of the mystery and scariness of trying serums on my skin. I've always had bad melasma and ive never really known how to fix it. Definitely going to try include these step-by-step 😊 Thanks!
Hydroquinone is on prescription in my country too - but my Dermatica Tretinoin has Hydroquinone in it. Thx to you I found Dermatica - has been on Tretinoin for 4 weeks now 😀 Have to try Azelaic acid as I have a little rosacea. My favourite vitamin C is the one from Timeless - it also has Ferulic acid and vitamin E
I love this! I'm a Natural Health Coach, and if I may, the liver, bc of toxins, also causes these dark spots. A good detox a couple times in year may prevent and control spots. Thank you so much!
I've been using the Timeless 20% vitamin C serum for almost a year and really like it. Very affordable and they often have sales of 50% off an order of $75 or more.
Sounds like melasma. I deal with it too. Hyperpigmentation is due to UV & melasma is exacerbated by sun & dictated by genetics & other factors. It’s tricky.
Excellent and informative video. Over 60 and thought I knew it all with regards to anti-ageing hyperpigmentation SPF etc. I'll have to watch this video several times in order to learn what and what not to do! Many of the creams u recommend are unknown to me so will pay a visit to my skin specialist for explanation and prescriptions. Thank u thank u Gemma
Gemma, you're a mind reader! I was using alpha arbutin, but decided to change to azelaic acid.... so I have a tube ordered and on it's way. I did hear it could cause pilling. Another amazing video!
The video of my life! Thanks Gemma! In terms of the Ultrasun sunscreen I had so much expectations, however I had used it 2 years ago during beach time and my skin got crazy. My face skin was super greasy after around 30 minutes of wearing it and I've got loads of under-skin breakouts (very bad ones) ... And my hyper pigmentation has... actually doubled 👀 So for me it was really bad. Now... maybe it was bad for me but it will be wonderful for someone else... as usual with beauty products in general, we don't know until we don't try it 😆 love your videos Gemma, they super informative and helpful. THANKS!! ❤❤
I had a bad experience using ultrasun as well. I have tried few products but I have never been satisfied with any of them. Didn't protect from hyperpigmentation and got a sunburn even with frequent application.
Great video!!!! I am very acne prone and I do well with Timeless 20% Vitamin C. I initially purged the first two weeks but then my skin cleared right up and my skin was so much brighter! Love it and can’t live without it now
Hi I didn't really get on with the azelaic acid from the ordinary re texture as it interfered with my sunscreen, but i am managing to use the Garden of Wisdom version (which is a milky serum type formula). It initially feels a little gritty, but melts into my other products. I alternate it with my tretinoin during the Summer as I cut back my tretinoin to every second day in the Summer months. I use tretinoin five nights a week in the Winter for info. I'm also someone who can't use vitamin c or glycolic acids as I have mild type one rosacea and eczema prone skin. I can use vitamin c on the back of my hands though and after using up serums that didn't work on my face, I started mixing a small scoop of the ordinary 100% vitamin c powder in my handcream overnight with really good results on pigmentation. Best wishes.
I love you! Seriously, I do! Thank you for doing this for us ❤️. Your are amazing 💋💋💋💋. Sunscreen is my religion and I don’t allow the sun to touch my face. I also use niacinamide, alpha arbutin, retinol 0.5, vitamin c, buffet from the ordinary and exfoliation with glycolic acid. Of course not everything in the same routine! I distribute de products taking into account their compatibility, my current skin needs, etc. As my melasma is due to hormonal storms lol, it is very difficult to control, however, I found that these products when correctly combined, have helped me to break and lighten up the ’big blocks’ of melasma of my face.
As always I’ve learned something new just love your channel ❤️ I’ve been using Revolution Vit C serum and my skin is absolutely loving it. I’m on my 3rd bottle now. Great price point and it actually works xxx
Great video, one of the best I have seen in a while...lots of great information, practical and really well explained, I love the Ordinary brand but was not sure what to buy since I am post menopause and although I don't have ( lucky me ) too many wrinkles I do have oily skin...now I know what to buy...thanks...you have a new follower.
Also is you buy ultra sun from QVC and don’t like it you can send it back within 30 days even if you’ve used most of it! Win win 👍🏼 Thanks Gemma for another informative video x
I found Timeless vitamin C is one of the best in the market. I have been using it for last 10 years. I can’t wait for your routine to be uploaded. Thank you.
Rohto Mentholatum (the company that owns Hada Labo) do an amazing Vitamin C serum which is very effective. It can be brought on Yesstyle or from sellers on ebay. I found it much more effective than any other Vitamin C serums that I tried - however it does have a very unusual smell!
Hello, I ve started with 12% vitamin C revolution serum and than moved onto Garden of Wisdom 20% and ferulic, both very budget friendly and I use it only in the morning works wonders xx
Great video lots of information going to have to watch a second time. Just a heads up if your mom likes the sunblock because of how it applies and looks fantastic. The antioxidant in the sun block don't do anything and that is what you pay the big bucks for. Dr. Dray video taped a lecture at a dermatologist conversation and this was a topic discussed.
Gosh I found you again! I subscribed so long ago but never got a notification so forgot. Just happened to recognize your face in this video and thought about the name which sounded familiar and it's you! :-) don't know why I'm not getting notifications oh, you look well and I hope you're being safe in the environment that were in right now.
Re: Vit C - I have used the DE product which I found really sticky and am currently using Timeless Vit C with Vit E & Ferulic Acid - I much prefer the consistency of this product. I'd like to incorporate Azelaic Acid and niacinimide into my routine - you said I can mix my Vit C with the azelaic acid, but how to apply the niacinimide? I use the Vit C in the morning and at night I alternate using DE Retinol and Farmacy AHA. Another issue I have is that whatever combination of products I use leaves my skin feeling tacky - even after applying foundation and powder (I use long-wear foundations). I have mature, dry/combo skin with alot of sun/age spots. Any help is appreciated! I find your posts very interesting - thank you!
Fantastic video thanks. Sunday Riley CEO serum did amazing things to my skin whilst Drunk Elephant vitamin c serum did not agree with my skin at all. Your make up is gorgeous in this video.
This was fantastic information!! I have hyperpigmentation and I haven’t even tried some of these products. Didn’t even know a couple of them even existed! I so appreciate you taking the time to explain all of this. 😊💕
I'm taking note on every video now after my shocking ingredients find haha. I tried the 10% niacinamide and 1% zinc blemish and pore serum from revolution . I find my skin looks red after I use it ? It doesn't sting or itch just looks red. Cant wait for another video on how to apply products as it's very confusing what to mix with what on a daily routine xxx ps love ur hair today xx
Timeless Vitamin C serum! 20% L-ascorbic acid, and comes in an airless pump. Can irritate sensitive skin if you overdo it, but applies smoothly and easily.
For Vitamin C I use the Kiehl's Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate which has a silicony consistency and I love it. It doesn't cause any irritation whatsoever and is amazing. Very hydrating as well.
Timeless vitamin C 20% + ferulic is a great alternative to Ski critical at a fraction of the cost. Lovely pump action dispenser too. Yes style takes ages to deliver so when I receive one I order the next.
I’ve been making my own vitamin c serum using Michelle’s (LabMuffinBeautyScience) recipe for probably a year now. She’s a chemistry PhD and so I completely trust her suggestions. You can make whatever percentage you like, as she provides a basic formula. It’s made with distilled water but since you make a small batch and it’s so inexpensive, it’s no big deal if it goes off. Just make a new one 🤷♀️ I tend to make mine with aloe water, add glycerin and Resveratrol. Just buy some finely milled vitamin c powder, that’s all you really need.
Im afraid i didnt take in everything you were saying because your makeup is absolutely AMAZING!!.I had to check which foundation you were using-totally mesmerized. Anyway eventually when I could concentrate, -, fantastic video I have been looking to change my skincare to help reduce my "age spots" more. Have been using ordinary products with great results but at a standstill, so time to step it up. Prefect timing for me! I'm afraid I did I am always looking at how to reduced "age spots" 😏
I am fortunate that I have no age spots on my face; the backs of my hands however are quite a different story. Whatever serums I use on my face I generally use on the backs of my hands. Additionally I have been using the Ordinary's Ascorbic Acid and Alpha Arbutin serum on the backs of my hands every other night. What kind of moisturizer can I then use after? I am concerned about using a water based cream after Vit. C. Are my fears unfounded? Also, in your derma-rolling video you mentioned using your buffet and matrixyl now that you use the matrixyl and niacinimide mixed together do you still do that after derma-rolling? Thanks for all the wonderful information you share with us.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been trying to use my ordinary Niacinamide in the mornings but it was pilling a lot. After seeing your video, I realized that my sunscreen, Drmtlgy tinted, also has skincare. So, now I know to use a different sunscreen with my niacinamide serum or just use my sunscreen alone as your mother does. I wouldn’t have known had it not been for your video. Thank you! I hold you in high regard as I do “Dr Dray”. She helps me with ingredients and what to avoid and you help with the use of the ingredients in combination with makeup! If anyone watches Dr Dray and you like wearing makeup, you should also be watching Pampered Wolf!
Wow thank you Amy. I'm way less qualified and informed than Dr Dray but I'm flattered. I would always recommend whoever you are listening to whether it be me, or Dr Dray that you always do your own research. All skin is different. XXX
Hi Gemma can’t wait for the other video as I get so confused and what goes on first and with so many products you listed in this video only caused more confusion lol. I only have a couple brown spots on face but face is blotchy with some redness. My main concern of my brown spots is on my legs and arms from sitting in the sun for so many years with no sun protector but rather products to tan me. Will the products you mentioned work on legs and arms ?
Love your channel and watch all the time. I had a bit of trouble following this one though. You covered quite a bit pretty fast. I've watched 3 times so far, taken notes, and did a cut and paste of your product list. Which to use, how often (morning and nite), and what order? Thanks so much
You seriously are the best! Love all your information and recommendations you give us. Thank you for all you do! I recently showed a friend your video "10 things you need to stop doing that damage your skin" that you did earlier in the year. I've since introduced her to The Ordinary products that I've been using (based on your recommendations! :).....She tried the Azelaic Acid from The Ordinary and absolutely loves it and has been helping to calm her rosacea. :)
I really appreciate your skincare videos. Sun damage is one of my key problems. I just started Curology tretinoin last week. My formula contains niacinamide and tranexamic acid. Hopefully it will help.
Hiya Gemma, great video as always with lots of useful information. I cant remembe the number of people I have had to explain to that they should wear sunscreen every single day even when they are not going out of the house, its amazing the number of people who dont! My sister is one!! My recommendation for Vit C is a Korean brand called ByWishtrend, their Pure Vitamin C 21.5% Advanced Serum is fantastic. Ive been using it for a few years now with no problems whatsoever. One question, would you use Niacinamide at the same time as Vit C or alternate their use? Hope you have a lovely day xx
Great video, super in depth! I use Timeless 20 vitamin C plus ferulic acid, btw! I recommend REN Overnight glow, dark spot sleeping cream. It is a clean product, pricey but does lighten and brighten the skin overall. Not targeted pigment areas. 👍 It was recommended by you tuber Elle Leary. PS, I love your eye makeup today!!!
Thanks Gemma, I was waiting for this, however ( as just seen your comments below) you mention so many products! I’m 63, have relatively good skin for my age, few lines but two large ‘age spots’ on my left cheek. I reckon I can put them down to being a passenger in my husband’s open top car which he insists having the roof down at nearly every opportunity! Looking for a hat! During lockdown I decided I would start taking care of my skin a bit more, took your advice, ditched the face wipes and got some cerave cleanser, and buffet and vit c from the ordinary. I’ve started using La Roche Posay redermic alternate nights and their sunscreen. My skin feels better, but still a few little blemishes. So what of the other items you mention should I be using? It’s a confusing array, I don’t want to rush out and buy everything you suggest, but what would you recommend to help with the age/sun damage and a little scattering of blemishes on my cheeks?
I use the Timeless Vitamin C +E+Ferulic Acid. I buy it on Amazon, its relatively cheap, (less than $20) has an airtight and light inhibiting package that lasts appx. 3 months. It is L-Ascorbic Axid. The strongest kind. I use 1 pump every morning, and it covers my face and neck. I use a cheaper Vitamin C on my chest and hands and arms.
Drunk Elephant has a great vitamin C, just pricey. Purito also has a great vitamin C. You can find it on YesStyle or Stylevana. @pamperedwolf your makeup is GORGEOUS today.
This video was full of good information but very overwhelming to me. I’m looking forward to next video on hyperpigmentation. FYI, I tried to get Tretinoin, but they use clindamyacin, which I am extremely allergic to. The contact at the company said that they couldn’t guarantee that there would be none of this ingredient in my product. I freckle extremely easily, which is my main motivator for wearing sunscreen and staying in the shade. (I freckle even with high sunscreen.) I am always trying to reduce my hyperpigmentation. I use the ordinary Buffet, niacinamide, hyurolic acid, glycolic toner, and, occasionally, Timeless vitamin C serum. The main takeaway I got from this video was to try hydraquinone, but I’m not sure how to get it. I live in the US.
I'm in USA, I use Differin Dark Spot Correcting Serum which has 2% hydroquinone in it for targeting areas. I think it does help, you can get that almost anywhere here FYI
