Hey guys!! I’m going to try to post on Thursdays too! People ask about hyperpigmentation all the time and I worked really hard to clear my skin of it after I had a baby. It’s a process! Be gentle to your skin. The hyperpigmentation takes years to form, so don’t try to get rid of it quickly.
Thank you so much Susan for this video !! I am going to have a series of 4 depigmentation peels (Dermaceutic's mela peel forte) at my derm's , hopefully this will get rid of my stubborn pigmentation and Melasma. I am scared of using retinol as it increases photo sensitivity , my skin being already very sensitive to the sun .. love love your videos ! xxx
Skin turnover is 28-40 days. Depending on how deep the hyperpigmentation is in your dermal layers will depend on how long it takes to come to the surface. Susan, you should also explain the difference between chemical & physical spf sunscreens. Not all sunscreen is "created equal". Just because your make up or moisturizer has spf, doesn't mean you should skip actual spf sunscreen application & reapplication throughout the day & sun exposure you receive.
Thank you for this video I’m starting to get hyperpigmentation now in my early 40’s and I had no idea what to do ...I’ve always had clear skin and it’s really been affecting my self esteem .thank you
I don’t want to use hydro-quinone at all, I think I would go for the one that doesn’t contain it, I’m not really conscious about my skin conditions, I don’t even wear makeup to cover my problems so I don’t mind the time it takes to show results...but I can get how the one with hydro-quinone could work, I’m just spooked by hydro-quinone, period!!! Love this video, I will be incorporating 99 % of the skin tips in this video, very educational.... ❤️❤️❤️ all the way from 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦!
Omg thank you for making the comment about breastfeeding! I would have never thought to see if a face product was safe to use wile breastfeeding! So happy you said that.
Yes please! How do you apply your hidroquinone? Morning, night? Before the retinol ? Before Vit C in the morning... please help!! Thank you so much, you are amazing!
This is really informative, i've tried many products but none of them did the job... It's been nearly four years since I've started treating hyperpigmentation under my lower lip and it's been driving me insane... But I began doing DIY masks with turmeric, chickpea powder and rose water and I'm actually seeing results... I recommend it for anyone who doesn't have allergies to any of the ingredients. PS: it takes time, you have to exfoliate before putting the mask on, and you should do it twice a week.
thank you for all your advice. i developed melasma after my twins and am desperate to get rid of it. As someone new to this, I would've like you to give us a video (or to list) in the order you use all of this. I am confused on how/what goes on first, second, etc..thanks
Susan Susan Susan I love this video. And I have to tell you...of all of them many sides of wisdom and knowledge that you bring to your RU-vid family my favorite part is when you are Susan the skin care expert ...hands down there is an energy about you that says “ I love talking about skincare, you can trust me and I love what I do” I was so happy to see that you included the Amazon retinol ...the last time you spoke to us about you had just discovered it... so for you to recommend it .... I am off to buy it right now
Amanda Westbrooke Thank you! I truly love to talk about skincare. 👍 Let me know what you think of the retinol. I’ve been using for a couple weeks now and I’ll warn it’s a touch strong for over the counter, but surprisingly not irritating. I use it two days in a row, then take a night off, then go two days again. That seems to be the right formula for me, but I would love to know your take on it once you try.
@@SusanYara I'm new & am slowly learning how to build a good skincare routine more than just wash & SPF moisturizer for the last 30+yrs. But I on a major budget. I've been eyeing the brand Acura & have tried their.15% retinal cream & am told to slowly build up the % & how often to use it. Wondering if you know of this brand? I'll check your playlists to see if you've addressed it or not. It hasn't dried me out, I use it for darkness (mustache sans hair?!) & over my hinted areas of crow's feet/wrinkles, phyto scars? & DV related scars. This in combo of a rose/carrot seed/jojoba/sunflower seed oil blend has already severely reduced one DV scar on my cheek. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these issues & have a great day today !
Interesting, thank you for that, I'll make sure to ask my physician to check my liver. I have what looks like a mustache, but in my skin & hair is virtually non-existent there. I don't drink, I've never had any other than coffee as something that would affect my liver badly. She did mention birth control, so perhaps that's why, but I've had this my entire life. There's been now two times my Vitamin D levels have been less than half the lowest acceptable level & in one of these times it was my thyroid which also had extremely low output levels. I'm really curious as to why (doc had no answer) & whether the discoloration is a side effect? I live in Alaska, so I'm one of those lucky people who get to eat a ton of salmon & as I said, I'm a coffee drinker. Thanks all & have a great day today!
When I was preg w my 3rd child I got melasma across my forehead n cheek 6 weeks after giving birth it all went away 2 yrs later I got preg w my 4th child the melasma came back n this time w a vengeance my whole face was one big veil of melasma 5 yrs later It’s still there so when this video popped up on my notifications I clicked so fast I hate my melasma it looks so bad I feel like a spotted giraffe n it’s so hard for ur makeup to look good I’m so aggravated I finally thought there’s a way to get rid of this but unfortunately I can’t afford any of the products mentioned in this video n now w this government shutdown I have no income whatsoever everything is wiped out but im going to stay positive n maybe way in the future I can look bac on this video n b able to afford these products!!!! Ty so much for sharing ur tips for melasma!!!!!!!
Angelina Carraway35 check out The Ordinary by Deciem, specifically products with vit C, niacinamide, and Alpha Arbutin as well as all their AHAs (acids). It’s very affordable. Also check out Gothamista’s YT channel for videos on this subject. She is very good at suggesting a wide of products at different price points. Best of luck! xx
Also invest in a good sunscreen there's lots of affordable ones out there you just have to find what works for you ♡ UV exposure worsens melasma and the treatments for melasma make skin more sensitive to UV rays so sun protection is important
Angelina, try to buy a big leaf of organic Aloe Vera (in France it costs only 1 euro) - you basically put the gel straight from the plan onto to your melasma , every morning and night for as long as possible. I've been doing It for the past 4 months and mine has lightened tremendously. Consistency is key though ! But Aloe Vera DOES work :)
I never realized that my acne leaving dark spots was hyperpigmentation! I always assumed it was part of the healing process and was scarring from it! After I started using a Retin-a cream though I did notice a significant decrease in dark spots when I do get breakouts, and i've even noticed some very fine lines i have become less noticeable!
Wow so glad I came across this! These light brown blotches surfaced in the past 2 months and make my cheeks look dirty!😩😠 I’m Asian and in my 50s but youthful looking and have always gotten away with no foundation outside of tinted moisturizer. I’m going to buy every product recommended and keep you posted! 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Hope it work for you. If not i will suggest papaya, glutathione and mulberry even tone cream. It clears melasma and treat acne effectively. I use it as a daily body moisturizer.
Helpful video, thank you! How bad was your melasma? Can you share before and after photos? I just want to understand how much melasma I can realistically remove completely
Check out Aloe Vera glutathione lotion. Great for clearing melasma. It contain Aloe vera extract, vitamin c and glutathione. It recommended for treating acne as well
There are quite a few comments about how expensive some of these products are. The company The Ordinary makes a lot of single ingredient products that are similar to some of the more expensive options that were discussed in this video, and it is very affordable.
I just would like to share...Differin gel gave me so many cystic acnes, big ones on top of each other. I continued using it for a 1.5 months coz the label says that it "can" cause breakouts at first before it clears out. But no way, never again. I used the full line up of Khiel's ( blue cleanser, Calendula toner, Vitamin C serum, breakout control blemish treatment, gel moisturizer and sunscreen) as suggested by the salesperson and my pimples subsided only after 2 months. Now I only have hyperpigmentation but it is slowly clearing up. It has been 4 months since I started using Khiel's products. Since the vitamin C serum is so expensive, I did the DIY Vitamin C serum I saw on youtube which, I feel, works wonders, too.
If I'm not mistaken, when I was preparing for my essay for bachelor degree, I read that we have to avoid niacinamide and vitamin A in the morning because of its low photostability. And retinol is a type of vitamin A...
I really like this style of video. Definitely more appropriate and helpful. Thank you! Do you have a cleanser you prefer for those of us with melasma? Thank you!
Cosmelan chemical peeling can speed up the process. It is an expensive treatment, but it really takes off a lot of skin and smooths the skin tone. The home treatment stings but it gets better. The end result is worth the effort 👍.
I am so glad I found this video. Having had Melasma on my forehead for over a year I had given up hope of getting rid of it. I am almost 3 weeks in using the PCA skin along with the other products suggested and i can barely see it. Thank you.
@Claire Genney Wow you’ve given me some hope! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the products she mentioned it really helps! I also have terrible melasma on my forehead and upper cheeks and I was really giving up hope because I feel like I’ve tried everything under the sun and nothing has really worked I’m tired of having to cover it up with makeup all the time. Just like you im so grateful I found this video. I had to subscribe 😁💕
@@millybadze2117 you're welcome Milly. It's still bare visible so no need to use thick cover ups anymore. I no longer need the PCA gel but I have kept up with the other products and sunscreen everyday. All the best with it and I hope you share your results. X
Thanks for this informative video! I keep nearly buying C.E.O., but then I'll see someone else say they hated it or it didn't work. At 43, I am so tired of spending money on things that don't work; it's so frustrating. So, thanks to you (and the fact that I believe you're honest and educated). :-)
I'm trying to help my dad out with his dark spots, haha. He's 66 so it's probably just aging, but he also loves to stand in the sun without sunscreen 🤦♀️ I told him sunscreen was MANDATORY! But other than that, is the advice in this video appropriate for his age? Thanks in advance!
Thank you for breaking the process down in such an organized way! I've been so confused as to when to apply this product, that product... I absolutely love how informative you were but yet easy to understand!! So appreciate this! Thank you!!
Hi Susan! You’re the BEST! I love how informative and educational you are, I’ve been following your advice and recently have been purchasing a lot of the products you recommend. I’m hoping to see a difference in my skin as soon as I receive and start using🤞🏽. Keep these videos coming!😘👍🏽
Thank you for that...as an older ex surfer my skin has blotches after the damage done surfing without sun block (was uncool). Didn't know you could "bleach" it with cremes. Great...
Great info!!!! Thank you for spelling this out. I so needed this video, this great info and product info. You are such a charmer, so gorgeous, and so joyful. I love the products. You were so competent in presenting the info. And thanks. I subscribe!!! From 62 yr old, irish american--fair skinned, Ashland, Oregon, USA.
Try papaya, mulberry and glutathione even tone cream . It contains mulberry extract, papaya extract and vitamin c. It is effective in treating melasma, fading dark spots and treating acne. I use it as a body moisturizer. It is affordable too.
Strivectin was a fanatic product when it first came out. Then the company reduce the percentage of active ingredient making it take much longer to see results.
I’ve been using vitamin C with ferulic acid and E. I’m telling you my acne scars have faded and some just gone. It takes quite awhile to go away though. Literally month after month I was so mad that they were still there. It took like 6 months to start seeing a difference. ! And I used this acid gel wash from wishtrend. Just be patient. It works. I follow a 10 step program. I also use a skin resurfacing gel mask once a week.
Sumer Tatum-Clem by Timeless 20% CE and Fwrulic acid. I buy this refill size and I do refrigerate it. I bought this 9/18/19. I’m halfway through. So even though it’s something like $70, it’s a large bottle and it’s still clear and still works and it’ll take me through to March. So that is about $10/month. Just refrigerate it.
Nissira Patricia so this is more than 10 steps. cleanser is cosrx low ph good morning gel cleanser or Acwell ph balancing cleansing foam.. Then Pyunkang Yul moisture ampoule in my chest and lower neck. Then I use Acwell ph balancing toner. Then follow with I’m with Rice essence. THEN I’d use the vitamin C then coq10 after. I will dab on some Peach and Lily glass skin refining serum for added moisture. I use Make Prem hydrate me on my face. Nivea pure and natural on neck and chest. Then I use Hado Labo she correcting eye cream and after that soaks in I top it with a little Whamisa eye essence. FINALLY I use a sunscreen. I have like 8 so I switch out depending on the weather. Just started trying Klairs soft airy UV essence. Great for winter for sure. That’s daytime. At night I only add clean it zero for a double cleanse and right after I use Then (at night only) I use Klairs youth activating drops. Then the rest of my routine. It actually only takes me like 5 minutes. I’ve been doing this for over 2 years so I’m pretty speedy. I will try and do a mask 2-3 times a week and I use the Peach and Lily super reboot resurfacing mask once a week. Whew! If someone laid out this list to me I’d say they were crazy as hell. It really takes a little bit of time and the results are worth it. I wouldn’t do all of that if I saw nothing! Aren’t you glad you asked? Haha
@@C1nderfire Thank you for the detailed description! I am also started to use Korean skincare so its good to know that some people are as "crazy" as me. :) I am also using Cosrx AHA and BHA serums to fade scars.
I love you guys channel 💗💕 can you guys do skin care for dry acne skin but for teens I been struggling with acne and acne scares and I wanna find a way to clear them I really would want to see more stuff to for teens and because if you want to have great skin it starts when your young I want to see the basic skin care things and tips and advice for are young skin ☺️💕
Iv come to learn that aside having acne some people are more prone to scaring than others. For those of us who scar easily we definitely have to incorporate vitamin c and Retinol in our regime. Downside is most likely if we scar easily then our skin is very sensitive and thin, so we can’t use abrasive products on it and over expose it. This whole skincare situation is just hard chale 🤣
Now I understand why my acne leaves scars behind and takes forever not seeing improvement. Seem that I have to add *retinol and Vitamin C* in my regimen all time along with a good sun block and moisturizer. Thanks
So glad I found you, everything you said is so informative and helpful! I have Melasma and it sucks because I always have to wear a FULL coverage foundation. I have been using the Dr Dennis gross peel pads and so far so good, but I’ll definitely go buy vitamin C and a retinol. Thank you!!
That was great. Just the video i needed! I have a little hyperpigmentation from a childhood in Africa, which has now reached a point where I want to do something about it. As you say, I didn't get it overnight so I mustn't expect it to go overnight either....
Rose hip oil has really helped my dark spots left over from pimples. I have used it every night for about 6 months, and I now am really noticing them dissapear slowly but surly .
@@ibusofieyolanda7888 I bought mine off the Deciem website . It's from The Ordinary . I have had the best luck with that brand. I also have bought it at Sprouts or Whole Foods, I can't remember which one. But I prefer "The Ordinary" it is affordable and has worked the best for me 😁hope that helps!
It starts on the inside. Vitamins, collagen, orange juice, b12, ashwagandha, vegetables. Lower your sugar intake. Don't waste money on these expensive products just a good sunblock
What about in our legs and underarms? I have dark spots and I wish to find something that actually works. I love these recommendations will be buying the retinol! Thank you!
Hi Susan, I am so thankful I discovered your youtube videos. I am all about skin care. What do you think about Rodan and Fields skin care products. I had kind of like your issue 1.5 years ago and decided I need to switch products. I started using R+F Reverse Brightening skin care regimen and after about 1 year I really saw results, my skin brightened up and most of my skin hyperpigmentation or sunspots went away, except for a few that are still there. I believe these remaining spots are from me picking up my hormonal one or two zits that i occassionally get. After watching this video i started using the liiyana retinol and sunday riley vit c. I do like them a lot and using them as alternate to my retinol vit c cream that comes with R+F reverse brightening. I am thinking of trying the pigment gel, maybe this will be the one that will remove the remaining pigmentation on my cheek bone. I would love to get your opinion on this. Thank you and keep making skincare videos. I truly believe you are one legit skincare vlogger.
Susan, I got my dark spots..from the military doing Dermabrasion to my face because I was on numerous medications but the main culprit of the ice pick skin that was living with. Depressing. I truly hope this helps.
Could you PLEASE do a video on pores? How to shrink them (if possible) how to clean them out safely, how to make them less noticeable. My pores are out of control 😖
Olga Castaneda I think you might benefit from salicylic acid. It’s a BHA that reduces inflammation, clears pores, prevents breakouts, and exfoliates. I use the Burt’s bees acne solutions clarifying toner with 1% salicylic acid every day after my cleanser, once my face has completely dried. I hope that helps!
I've heard that you have to put salicylic acid(BHA) on the spot where you have blackheads, then wash it after 10 minutes, put some clay mask, and then some tightening serum to tighten your pores.
I’ve dealt with hyperpigmentation forever! I tried Musely and after 6 weeks, it was 85% gone...by the way...I have no connections to them and have not been asked to promote them...it works!!
Yay! Another skincare video!! I love these Susan! Thank you for sharing your PCA lightener!! I need to grab that ASAP! I definitely got hyperpigmentation after I had my second child and while they may look like “freckles” I know they haven’t always been there and I’m still not used to them! I feel that aside from some of the MDs and estheticians I see on RU-vid, your advice and knowledge has been spot on! Thank you so much my sister!! Love you lots!! 💕💕
Hey Susan, it would have been really great if you would have mentioned, that people should look out for physical scrubs that don't contain micro-plastics. Just for the sake of us all - let's spread awareness where we can...
Great video... loved the way you broke it down into treatment steps... Exfoliators, Treatment and Prevention. I actually took some detailed notes and will be going over all this with my wife. She is from Laos and just turned 50 and is starting to show some hyperpigmentation spots on her cheeks and forehead... that she is starting to become self conscience over. We've watched a lot of video's, read a ton of reviews and honestly your video broke it down perfectly... thank you very much for taking the time to make this video!!
Hi Susan, I would like to use the retinol at night too. After which step in my night routine do I use it? Would it be after my toner and can I use it as a substitute for moisturizer or no?
I'm a nursing mama and would love to have a video on skin care. I didn't realize you couldn't use some products while pregnant/ nursing. Can you recommend some products that are safe?
Can you suggest a skin care routine for people with different types of skin e.g. people with acne what steps they should have vs. People with dry skin cos I’m assuming it will be slightly different
@@krassiable ughhhh. No but I literally ordered everything from this and more from sephora almost $400. 🤞🤞🤞 if not I'm keeping my receipt and returning what I feel is not working
